  1. Much worse than the IS then! Another update - been contacted early morning today. RRG bodyshop phoned me and said LV had approved the repair. Therefore, RRG Bodyshop will pick the car up on Tuesday, they will drop off a courtesy car at the same time and will have the job done by Tuesday next week Also I have had a quote for the garage door which came out at a surprising £290 inc VAT so not bad.
  2. I'm pretty sure if an airbag deployed by itself due to a kid kicking a football at the bumper, that would be taken very seriously. You know as well as I do the potential injury an air-bag could do if deployed inappropriately. Lexus clearly need to design the pop-up bonnet trigger better, I'm not bothered, because its unlikely to happen, but I hope they still at least look into the underlying cause. A Mercedes airbag went off because an old woman hit the bumper with her bag when a man horned at her. Its extremely unlikely to go off on its own accord - something always triggers it.
  3. Ive only come across maybe 3 cases on the forum (which, lets face it, is where everyone goes when they have problems). Really? I would have thought most people go to Lexus rather looking for a forum to post on. Guess you learn something new everyday. Nope, actually people post on forums first and then go to the dealers. You could say the same thing about the airbags or ACC/PCS system if equipped though. I doubt many people worry about it. I dont for a start, the likelihood of the pop up bonnet deploying on its own is less than an airbag deploying on its own
  4. You cannot 'pass' on it though. It's a built in feature of the car, likely so that is can earn the 5 star NCAP rating. But sounds like Lexus haven't implented the collision activation well enough. If a impact that doesn't even damage the bumper can set it off, that's not good design. Equally another fourm member had the front of their bumper badly damaged but the system didn't activate.... do all new ish cars have this?, to me its on my cross off list along with auto stop/start. Far too much hassle and flaws and trouble, again I seriously doubt your insurance will be reduced due to having a pop up bonnet. Most new cars are beginning to get this feature now. I think it only pops in certain situations. My wife pranged the IS and the pop up hood didn't deploy even though the bumper is slightly dropped and deformed. As with all things there will be some which go wrong from what i have seen this is not exactly true and is prone to getting activated inadvertently by events other than a guy's head bashing the bonnet. But there's your mistake, as of 25th NOV 2015, there are nearly 7000 IS300h's registered. Ive only come across maybe 3 cases on the forum (which, lets face it, is where everyone goes when they have problems). Even if you extrapolate it and say 10 cases of pop up bonnet failures, its 1/700 x 100 = 0.14 % of cars affected! Thats practically NOTHING. There's more chance of the TPMS going wrong.
  5. The dealers aren't as educated about these things other than just the basics. I could probably get a job there with no sales experience and know more about the cars than they do. the IS system is pioneer. Im pretty sure the CT uses panasonic. The upper models including RX and GS also use pioneer for their 12 speaker systems
  6. I have a feeling they're just going to swap the bumper and fender out, I dont think they can be arsed with painting and worrying about matching it and stuff. Probably explains where the figures are from. I think they're charging £100 a day for a courtesy car lmao
  7. Rear camera can be adjusted in the settings - Ive stuck it on a higher brightness which helps a lot! Water traps are defo a pain, it keeps dripping unless you seal the door jambs which I have done and it eliminates it. Does kick up more spray but the stance IMO is just "perfect". I love how the rear track is wider than the front, looks aggressive! The boot is a weight reduction measure. I think its aluminium with less padding to reduce weight. Part of the front and rear arches has rubberised noise cancelling material now instead of the felt. Much easier to clean but does exactly the same job if not better. Pop up bonnet - this is debateable. The feature is very important for pedestrian crashes. Its not exactly costly to repair - £1k. After my wife pranged the IS the front bumper is being changed and the fender is either being pulled into shape or being replaced - total cost £4.5k!
  8. the auto box with manual mode gives you that feature now too :)

  10. So just an update of the situation: 8:30am - Phoned Lexus Bradford who booked an appointment for 4pm same day 4pm - Arrived, showed the car to them. They took pictures of the damage and the pictures will be sent to RRG bodyshop in Bolton (Bradford is part of the RRG group). RRG bodyshop will make a quote and send it to LV (highway) via Audatex code and I should know what's happening within 48 hours. They said that LV will phone myself and the RRG bodyshop if its OK to proceed. Bradford also inspected the car quickly and said its fine to drive, no damage other than cosmetics.
  11. That sound like a ignorant motoring journalist line. Who honestly buys a car to drive at break neck speeds around the country lanes? Assuming that is what is meant by a "drivers car" You should write to the 'M' division at BMW, 'RS' at Audi, 'AMG' at Mercedes and tell them they are wasting their time :PAt the end if the day it's all a matter of opinion, I've owned some of the best petrol cars around. The chassis on th IS300H is up there with the best of them, the hybrid unit....humm sorry, it's great in traffic jams but any kind of 'spirited' driving finds it lacking. Both response and power. If you want to see what I'm on about, go and test drive a M3, M5, or even the new GS-F, and than compare it to the drivetrain of the IS300H. My wife loves the IS, it is hers after all...I enjoy how relaxed it is on long M way drives, but every time I ask the drivetrain to deliver that extra bit of performance I wish it either had a 'normal' petrol engine or a pure electric power source, not the confused mis-mash that is the hybrid setup. M3, M5 and GS-F are all full on M or F cars. The IS300h should be compared to something like the BMW 320d - in which personally, it beats hands down.
  12. Ive never taken out Accidental Damage cover on home insurance. Ive never really needed it. Its not a huge issue though, I have the funds to sort the door out and it doesn't really matter if it doesnt work for the next few weeks as the car can just stay outside lol. Im getting a few people round to see what they can do with it.
  13. Nothing Im assuming. Its only CAT D if written off. It depends on the bodyshop quotation in the end. If Highway think it doesnt make financial sense then they'll write it off as CAT D. Cant see why though, not exactly major damage and it'd be 10-15% of car value at most so not exactly huge.
  14. The car itself is covered by the insurance but Highway said that because the garage door is my property, I'll have to get it fixed myself. I think the bottom 10 slats will need removing and then the door will come out completely. They'll take the intact door away and just fit the extra 10 slats and bring it back. The guide rail is better if its straightened as its set in concrete at the bottom :o I can live with the slight damage on the cladding as its not very noticeable, The roller garage door is great and hasn't had any problems - of course, the wife driving into it would be similiar to her driving into the wooden post on your car port!! If it wasn't set in concrete (im going to blame the floor guy for this) it would be SUCH a simple job that I'd do it myself!
  15. I would have thought so - especially since Highway told me to show it to the Lexus bodyshop and send them a quote via Audatex. Id prefer a new wing in all honesty and I reckon they will just fit one. No damage to the headlight or the LED stripfrom what I can see so its all good on that front. Most likely bumper will need replacing - atleast I wont have to get the stone chips done hahahaha!! Ah well. Im phoning them at 8:30am to see when I can take the car in for inspection.
  16. It has the electric opening roof fitted. Thanks for that rayaans i had a feeling that was the case, only ever seen the normal ones for sale though. I have seen one with the rear underrun cut out for the tow bar access and it looked fine.keeping my eye out for some reasonably priced ones. Yes they are quite simple to fix on. I had noticed that, its going back in next week for a full service and a couple of chips on the door which all should have been done before pick up. Yep, get them to change the calipers out whilst they're at it, or atleast give them a good paint job.
  17. Just something I saw from the pictures - take a look at the front calipers - they look pretty bad. Ive got 34k on mine and they're still silver.
  18. On a side note - my insurance policy with Highway is coming to an end and Admiral came out cheapest this year. So, Id already bought the Admiral multicar policy for both cars with my car starting on 29th Nov! Hats off to Admiral though, they waived the admin fee, put down my wife had an "at fault" incident and left the price as it was! phew! Pics - just in case you didnt think it happened
  19. I think the pop up bonnet only fires when the ignition is on and Id assume its over a certain speed. The silver headlight washers don't have the sensors in, its underneath them in the bumper itself.
  20. Still drives like a champ - insurance company (highway) said its fine to drive if there's no lights or anything loose. It just seems to be minor cosmetic damage which undoubtedly the Lexus bodyshop will charge £2-3k for.
  21. Yesterday evening, about 4pm, my wife decides to put the car in front of my side of the garage (my RX was still inside). We have a double garage with 2 doors, mine is the right, hers is the left. So, she came in the car and parked it in front of my garage as per usual and went inside. This is because the doctor car parks in front of her side of the garage when we come on a break. Anyway, she realised we hadn't come yet so looked at the car and acknowledged itd probably be a tight fit so decided to get back in the IS and move it forwards. She said her foot slipped (it was pretty cold outside and im assuming her shoes were wet/icy). The IS went face first into the garage door and was at a weird angle so hit the wall on the driver's side. Damage - Garage door is written off for sure. Front bumper has dropped about 1cm on the drivers side with a chunk taken out of the front lip under the right foglight from hitting the wall, scuff on the drivers side in front of the wheel (which is intact) and the front right wing is mangled. No dashboard lights and pop up hood didn't deploy. Spoke to the receptionist today at Lexus Bradford, bodyshop is closed on Sundays so will let you know how it goes when I ring tomorrow morning. If you recall, my car was still inside and the garage door was bent - well I managed to get it out after doing what was a 1000 point turn from her side of the garage LOL
  22. Looking good. The under run from other versions won't fit on the front. You have to get the F Sport under run for it to fit. The rear under runs are all the same however
  23. The dealer can program the opening of windows and Sunroof for you
  24. Toyota/Lexus have used Pioneer audio systems for years. The Nav is Pioneer so the audio system will probably be as well - it may even be an all-in-one unit. Screen Shot 2015-11-21 at 12.30.55.png Yes except Im sure the CT uses a panasonic system
  25. That's even worse for Lexus. Servicing is as expensive as MB, if not more, and it has to be done twice as often! Factor in your wasted time and effort in getting your car serviced twice as often and it is even worse. Yes but 20k for any engine is overkill. There was an RX300 at the dealers getting a new engine fitted. Reason? No oil change for 15-18k miles. The oil had literally become gunk. Having said that, if you're doing MEGA miles - ie 20k miles a year, there's no point getting a dealer service as it probably wont make a huge difference to the value anyway
