No contest, if money isnt an issue RX every day of the week. Its just a much more polished vehicle and you can tell that its a Lexus best seller. Luxury trim is a good bet unless you want the F-Sport looks/handling or the Premier gadgets. Bear in mind though that is MASSIVE. If you're not comfortable with driving big cars its not for you - its almost the same size as an RR Sport

I own the previous gen, not the new one, my interior quality is great but its not as good as the new RX is - It does look great when you're in the driver's seat though, the F-pace is somewhat flat, the RX centre console actually comes to the driver at a marginal angle and it all looks very cockpit like. I also think its a feel thing - some cars have great looking interior but its when you touch the materials that you get disappointed. There's nothing wrong with how the F-pace interior actually looks, its just how it feels. Got to say though, its a very cramped car inside.
-
Im struggling to see where you got that interior picture from? Thats not a production car?! I disagree with your comments on the F-Pace interior as well. Its in no way better than an RX - thats not even up for debate, it just isnt. The new RX interior quality blows the F-Pace away (too much use of cheap materials in the cabin, same with the XE). Ive personally sat in both and can agree with the following review: The interior quality is not worthy of a £50k+ vehicle when specified to a level of the RX. Frankly, I think the NX has a better quality interior. Jag have been really skimping on interior quality these days especially the leather and bits where you put your arms/hands such as armrests, cheap buttons on the steering wheels etc. Doesn't even have a leather dash!! Bear in mind the F-pace pictured below even has OPTIONAL ambient lighting and large centre screen shown which cost £1500 in total. The RX is pretty much standard Premier guise. Remove wood steering wheel for Luxury.

May be slightly more expensive when changing from an independent to a dealer but if you're using a dealer currently then it shouldnt be that much of a difference

Yes actually, been told by the council I legally have to put signs up if my cameras face onto the road and also if they capture things going on in another property (even though it helped them out when their Yorkshire Flags were being lifted by some nitwits) Essentially they said something about being sued if someone complains Sort of how you're not supposed to blow your leaves out into the street.
-
Agreed. Its very very very unlikely that someone is going to reverse into you and claim it was your fault

I think it does depend on the driving you do though. Akwardly Ive found hybrids to do better MPG on the motorway than they do in town, very weird and goes against the whole idea of a hybrid but thats how it is. Id assume that many customers are seeing "oh 51mpg", buying the car and doing short trips which result in low MPG anyway and they have the idea in their head that it'll be running on electric power in town, which we all know is not the case until the engine is warmed up properly.

Dont really see the need for dash cams - they're abused more than they are used correctly. Have you seen all the youtube videos with titles like "Dashcam stories: idiot drivers" and the like? Legally you have to put CCTV signs on your property if it looks onto the road which is council owned, therefore, don't see why cars with dash cams shouldnt have "dashcam on board" warnings as theres some right idiots out there who shouldn't have the privelege of recording everything that goes on on the roads. And if you have one, you have to show your insurance company the footage even if you were at fault! Some insurance companies will hike the price a little bit as its seen as a "stealable item" especially because they arent exactly cheap.

How to polish?

Got to say that article is fundamentally flawed in a few areas. Hand washing is not the "way" to go, you can actually get some very sophisticated touchless washes which work much better with less chance of any scratches inflicted on the paint. Also, a "soft" sponge? Surely not! I use a sponge - BUT only when Im polishing the car afterwards! And apparently its time to re-wax your car when water stops beading - again, not true. Some protection is very good at sheeting and not beading and therefore lack of beading does not show the level of protection on the car. Beading is simply a result of surface tension i.e a freshly polished car with no protection applied will also bead, doesn't mean its protected does it?! Hmm it sounds like you might be a perfect candidate for a coating instead of a wax then. Something like Cquartz should last you 1-2 years and reduce chances of scratches from washing etc I polish my car outside anyway, just make sure you wash it before you stick wax/sealant on it to remove the dust. -
New to the Club and Lexus

Yeah Manchester have had it for a few months. Its actually a previous club members car and is in impeccable condition but the price is higher than it should be. -
Depends on if you take your car to the dealer. If you take it to the independent currently and use the same independent for the GS, the increase in cost will be marginal.

Too much weight for it to carry IMO. Audi have realised this and switched to "smart sizing". In the test cycle the NX gets awesome MPG but it goes down drastically in the real world as they need working hard whereas they dont in the test cycle. The NX required a lot more throttle compared to my RX for example and over a few days of testing the MPG on my daily trip to work and back was 35mpg. My RX does 27-30mpg but has 2 extra cylinders and more weight so theres obviously too much weight for the 300h to carry. I think it'd get better MPG or the same with a detuned 450h setup

Yh the car has popped up before and the general consensus was that it was awesome but had minor scars which all cars have i.e kerbed wheels and some scratches near the drivers door. Im assuming they sorted that out for you though? -
If youre referring to the 3GS I agree. It is boring but on the other hand it is also well made. I think the point you are missing is that the GS 3rd gen debuted in 2006 whereas the XF is a 2007 car. Therefore there is a bit of a time gap between their production and obviously their styling. The 3GS was also of an era where Lexus used to use Toyota switchgear. If you switch to a 4GS, you'll find that every aspect is much improved. The quality is even better but it now has some style and the obvious colour schemes are gone i.e. you can get red, sandstone, ivory, tan etc etc but they are two tone. Lexus does not use Toyota Switchgear any more and you'll find that the 4GS is stunning in terms of attention to detail. I do feel that Jaguar skimp out on areas such as the leather seats which are crap quality and their use of padding material on the armrest etc.

My first RX 300!
rayaans replied to Rexlex's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Sounds good, the mats come in sets if you buy them from Lexus but take a look on Ebay and there should be some there. The RX400h grey mat will also fit. If you mean parking sensors, yes, they dont have parking sensors. You can have them retrofitted and aren't that expensive. My 54 plate RX300 was fitted with parking sensors by the dealer and they were great! -

Might be worth reading this. You'll just get overly confused on detailing world to be honest especially if you're just getting into it. -

Depends on how you want to go about it. If you want a permanent solution use a cutting polish - Sonax perfect finish is my favourite for all Japanese cars on a polishing pad. You can buy a polisher if you wish - best to stick with a DA - Argos do one pretty cheap with a 2 year warranty. Avoid rotaries as you can burn through paint if you havent used it before. If you want to fill the scratches, Autoglym SRP will work well. A few coats of Autoglym SRP and a wax/sealant on top should be great for a few months (totally dependent on the wax/sealant you choose) And, if you can get hold of some, get Autosmart products - I use them on my car and they're probably the best products out there without ridiculous price tags albeit they do come in 5l containers. They basically make products but distribute to the trade and are the largest valeting supplier in the UK. Autosmart Platinum is their version of SRP and arguably works better and of course its cheaper to buy. -
RX450H faulty lights
rayaans replied to Hassan1's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Firstly it would depend on who you bought the car from as to where you go. Is there any chance you didn't hit the wrong switch? Many people get confused as the Lexus wipers are on the right whereas the lights are on the left. My wife's Merc had it on opposite sides. Could also be an auto headlight sensor issue.- 11 replies

No point resetting the thing. The manual actually states that it doesn't need resetting. Essentially the tyre pressures are low enough to set them off which mess stick them all to 36psi and you're all set. It wont come back

Just to let you know, sorted out the wierd 3 line streaking of my drivers side wiper which was driving me nuts. This may be useful for somebody. So, the first step was change the wiper refills - this didnt work, 3 line streak on the drivers side was still there. Then I got bored and did everthing so it could be one of these factors but obviously Im unsure about what it is: 1) Washed the glass thoroughly with a NON-wax shampoo. Im using car chem 1900:1 (leather oak scent is LUSH btw). Rinsed off but left the glass wet. 2) Used my clay cloth on the glass until it was smooth. There was slight roughness upon doing the plastic bag test. 3) Used Astonish Car glass cleaner with anti fog 4) Used Autosmart Glass Glow polish with an applicator sponge on the windscreen and removed with a microfiber 5) Applied rain x to the windscreen Also a note about RAIN X. I get a lot of comments from people about glare, smearing and what not. I can't stress enough that this is due to poor application of the product and not the product itself. Here is the process for applying rain x properly: 1) Make sure the glass is clean - this means use a GLASS POLISH and not just a glass CLEANER. Glass cleaners contain nothing but ammonia or isopropyl alcohol. These will remove grease and minor dirt. However, tree sap, diesel crap and other hard wearing gunk will remain bonded to the glass. Something like Autosmart Glass glow or Autoglym Glass polish is what you want to remove the film your glass has on it. 2) Apply rain X to a KITCHEN ROLL and buff over half the screen. You have to be extremely quick and thorough with this. Keep buffing for 1-2mins on each half (doesnt sound like much but its actually a long time when you're buffing continously). Finish in straight lines and then do the other half in exactly the same way. Wait for it to haze (2-5 mins) and then remove completely. The most common problem is applying too much causing intense glare at night. 3) Apply a second coat. This is to ensure there is even application and will prevent wiper skipping/juddering. Remove the haze with a microfibre. 4) Now here is where the trick lies - Use a glass cleaner (RAIN X's own weatherbeater is great for this) and buff it in until the glass is clear with no streaks. Then sprinkle some water on the glass and buff the water into the glass using a microfiber. Now it shouldn't smear and you won't get the crazy glare that people get when they apply it in a weird way. Also ensure you clean the wiper blade with some glass cleaner as this can also cause smearing.
