  1. Hold down the power button - if that doesnt work then its a trip to the dealer.
  2. Ah ok, so the ML setup will be exactly the same as mine then. The one on the 400h was better than the ML in the 3rd gen so hopefully the pioneer will be OK and Ill just get one with HUD and Pan roof then
  3. As above, make sure its had the 60k service done as its one of the expensive services. however, if its a good price then you can always get it done yourself but just factor the cost in. Check the tyres - some have budget tyres on like Nexen - shouldnt be on the car IMO, especially if you're paying dealer prices for it. 12V battery was a problem on the 400h, not the 450h! Nothing to worry about there. No issues with the hybrid setup, as reliable as they get - somewhat more so than conventional engines from other brands. No issues during ownership, mine is 4 years old with 40k miles. The only thing to remember is, if you have the RX parked outside, keep the parking brake off in winter, tends to stick a little bit, same when parking the car after washing. Check the brake calipers, some of them have surface rust on them, OFC get the dealer to refinish these. Make sure the colour of the wheels are the same on each side as well, the paint is quite hard to match.
  4. Cant be done - ECU is under lockdown and hasnt been cracked Even if it was, you'd maybe get 10-20hp, nothing that would be noticeable at all. Remember that this is a naturally aspirated engine - no bolted turbochargers and hence not much you can do. AFAIK the 5.0l engine is almost at its peak power output anyway. Its almost at the same power output as the E60 M5 with a 5.0l NA V10 (500hp)
  5. There's no difference in terms of abrasiveness. The soft, medium and regular grades refer to the hardness of the bar. Soft is too sticky whilst regular needs heating up. Medium works well 90% of the time. Once every year should be ok really
  6. AVS hardly makes any difference whatsoever anyway. Might take more than 2 years to hit £15k though! They're going for £30k atm!
  7. What Was your previous car? HUD is sooo nice though! Don't think I could live without it anymore. Always found BSM to be a bit of a gimmick really. It's just an excuse not to look properly really!
  8. It can't. Generally you can't fit anything on to these apart from things like DVDs and cosmetics
  9. Yes that's it. Cut it into 4 pieces with a knife and use a quarter. Go for the medium one though, regular is too stiff
  10. Speed ratings aren't just about speed - they reflect the composition of the tyre and its ability to dissipate heat effectively. Generally a car at 70mph with V rated tyres is going to do better on harsh emergency turns on the motorway than the same car with T or H tyres. Good point regarding the tyre sensors - missed that one!
  11. Clay bar. BILT HAMBER do the best one IMO. It removes contaminants from the paint such as iron particles and tar spots Sprinkle water on the panel and then rub it across until the paint feels smooth to the hand
  12. How many miles have you done and what brand are the tyres? As above, are they worn evenly across the tread? Also how much tread have you got left on the front? Be aware that the rears wear out quicker due to being rear wheel drive anyway!
  13. The wheels cost about £80 + VAT if you get them done separately. I presume the ALA £100 limit on wheels is for touch ups, which cant be done with the IS wheels as the colour wont match. Generally wheel repairers will take the wheel off, sand it down in the affected areas, put some filler in and then paint over the top and blend it in. Works with cars which have a paint code for the wheels but not with these! I think the Lexus insurance for wheels is about £400 for 3 years
  14. Make sure you get a software update done when you go. Itll be free of course! Should improve the whole system too
  15. Hi Tim, Having used insurance for a fender bender on my IS300h I can tell you that it doesn't matter who you get insurance from. By LAW - you have the right to choose any garage - be it one that specializes in Bentleys or whatever. The insurance companies generally use awful bodyshops anyway. Their main aim is to get your car fixed for as cheaply as possible. My insurer at the time was Highway (part of LV group) and I told them that I want my car done at RRG bodyshop in Bolton (I live in Yorkshire but they're the bodyshop that do all the cars for Lexus Bradford, Stockport, Bolton and Manchester). So, I showed the car to Lexus Bradford who took pictures, sent them to RRG Bodyshop. At this point Highway had already given me an Audatex code which I passed on to Bradford. The repair was £3k for a front bumper and fender which was approved. Lexus picked it up and had it done in a week and drove it back - amazing job too! If its your fault you will have to pay the insurance company an extra £250 excess (non-approved repairer excess) on top of what your compulsory and voluntary excesses are and they won't provide a courtesy car, however Lexus will supply one if you ask anyway and charge the insurance company so doesn't matter anyway! Of course, if its not your fault, you don't lose out as the other party will be paying your excesses! Yes, that cost £3k lmao!
  16. Hmm odd. Never had a GPS issue with the nav, even on the IS which supposedly had awful infotainment but so far has been spot on. Might be worth going to the dealer for a software update. These cars usually have the oldest software on them for whatever reason. On a side note, be careful with that bin!!
  17. Go for the Lexus wheel insurance. Don't really know who ALA use tbh. Could be any old bodyshop for the wheels. Never bought Gap insurance either so don't know. Generally Lexus is quite expensive for their car insurance and Gap insurance though but I believe their wheel insurance is very comprehensive
  18. They tend to work OK but Ive heard they fling off at high speed causing damage.
  19. Yes easily kerbed. If you hit a kerb at all, at any speed - just make sure you're prepared for the disappointment when you take a look at the wheel The IS still has NO kerbed wheels, had it for nearly a year now! *touch wood* The trick is - dont go anywhere near a kerb - I usually park about a foot away (how you're supposed to park!!)
  20. Most people seem to love the cars once they actually see them in person though Its just the keyboard warriors you see on Youtube comments and car review websites that look at pictures and complain! Angles dont show up well in pictures, I thought everyone knew that!
  21. In the 450h handbook, it only says 36psi for the 18" wheel and tyre combo, it says 32 psi for the 19"
  22. Good to hear some positive views from a potential owner. The synthetic noise can be turned off - there's a little dial which says ASC on the right of the steering wheel.
  23. So you're telling me a CT with 18" wheels fitted is going to have a vertical measurement of 86mm between the road and the edge of the rim? The current sidewalls on the 17" wheels are smaller than that.......?!
  24. Nope aspect ratio measures the sidewall on both the bottom and top of the wheel. Therefore, only half will be in contact with the road at any point in time. I dont think my RX even has 86mm sidewalls and its running 235/55!
