  1. As the engine is the same as the IS200T, any induction kit for those will fit the RX200t However, having said that, the 200t won't make a good noise regardless of what you do to it due to its 4 cylinder engine. A 450h would probably have been better in this regard
  2. The general rule I go by is never call the insurance company for scratches and dents. Even if you simply say it to them they'll write it on the database. Generally, if the price of repair is £1k+ i'd choose insurance. Now this isn't very scientific but I worked out that my insurance price went up by £200 because of my wife's incident with the garage door costing £2.3k. You have to tell most insurance companies of claims in past 5 years so you'd break even if the cost was £1000
  3. Now it seems like you've come across a dishonest seller tbh and I think you're better off and with the issues you've mentioned I think you've made the right choice in getting rid. The IS220D whilst not a bad car, does have known issues and because of this it's always a case of anticipating what may happen next especially as they affect the engine and it's frustrating when it happens. Id second going for the IS250 auto, it's a great bit of kit and you won't have any fear of something major going wrong as they are a more reliable vehicle in general
  4. I don't think the car is bad relative to others in terms of reliability. I think it's more of an issue how the engine doesn't seem to fit the Lexus philosophy of low NVH.
  5. That seat is looking very impressive. Take your time and give it another hit, working a panel of a seat at a time and rubbing it in with a leather brush and you should see great results. Another trick is to use a warm damp cloth and place it on the seat beforehand, it opens the pores up (akin to shaving) and helps with cleaning
  6. Sonus tyre and bumper dressing is pretty good
  7. The above is bull**** and I will elaborate on why. Firstly, the coating put on Lexus leathers is a Polyurethane coat. Just because it is "Water based" and not Oil based, it doesn't mean that water is going to take the coating off! Modern leather cleaners are all safe for polyurethane coatings and will NOT remove them. Neither will damp water or mild detergent. A simple test is to try it on your skin. If its safe for skin, its safe for polyurethane coatings. Ive been using different leather cleaners on all of my cars since 2004 and never had an issue. Some cars will dye the cloth, especially poor repair jobs, but you will find that this is not coming from the seat itself but from inside the perforations which aren't fully coated. Think about it logically - a seat is subject to hours of rubbing backside and lats over thousands of miles and a 2 yearly treatment of leather cleaner is going to remove a coating? WHAT!?!
  8. Looking good but just needs those tyres blackening up a bit I reckon, it'll set the whole car off!
  9. Yep 1E3 - Phantom grey appears to be very close. The real colour is pretty much unmatchable.
  10. Both my cars also insured with them coming to a total of circa £45k if I was to buy them from dealers But I cant really complain, they forked out £3k for a front bumper and fender on my wifes car when she hit the garage door claiming her foot slipped! Only took Lexus 4 days to fix it as well so maybe I just got lucky.
  11. If I was 10 years younger, probably!
  12. As stated already, the batteries are not an issue - there's quite a few Prius over 500k miles that have the original battery on them. Its unlikely to go. Lots of RX400h's now approaching 10 years old as well and very rare to have issues with the battery itself. Even if the battery fails, an error code will show up but the car will still run no problem.
  13. I do like the Gliptone conditioner - dont rate their cleaner that highly apart from if you do it extremely regularly i.e. every month or so. I wonder if something like this would help? http://www.leatherrepaircompany.com/shop/matt-lacquer-leather-finish/
  14. But here is the issue, chasing maximum efficiency in ECO mode will be offset by flooring it using Sport mode to get out at junctions anyway. Another possibility is to hit the - paddle to force the car to rev higher and then put your foot down, although this wont help at all when fully stopped.
  15. That's a whole controversial topic actually. Although the conditioner won't reach the leather itself its been argued that it keeps the coating on top supple which is actually what you need to prevent cracks
  16. I think I quite like it!
  17. Scuffs will come from clothing and studs no doubt. So which one from the below is your seat like? The brown leather is completely normal and its actually just the grain of the leather and creases are formed by sitting on seats. The cream leather had been dried to the point of cracking - can happen if using harsh chemicals on the leather. The seats in the IS are looking like this after 3 years - Also I realise this might be offensive to some but are we talking about average height, build and weight here? Because Im 6ft, 90kg and Ive not had issues with these seats No point complaining about leather seat wear if the above are on the high side of normal, itd be like complaining about osteoarthritis of the knees in the overweight!
  18. It is exactly the same grade leather unless otherwise stated. I believe some of the RX's and GS models come with semi-aniline leather but the rest of them are the same grade and I believe Lexus showroom had this printed on "fact cards" in their showroom as well The leather in my RX and IS feel the same. I also have no abnormal wear on the seats in both cars and bear in mind the RX is 4.5 years old with 42k miles on it being used everyday. The IS gets worse wear in my opinion as it only covers roughly 3-5k miles a year and is mainly used for school runs and shopping but even then, the seats are in near perfect condition. More often than not its down to the individual and how they get in and get out of the car - I know plenty of people who don't sit on the seat and then move their legs but instead drag themselves across it, obviously this would lead to worse wear. Its also nothing you wont find on other cars with high grade leather. Check out Audi with their nappa leather and BMW merino leather - PITA to maintain.
  19. Agree with the above. I should also point out that auto decibel database has the Lexus LS and GS as one of the top 10 quietest cars and rated higher than the 2016 Merc E and 2016 BMW 7 series I would assume other cars on the same road would make a louder noise and it's probably a combo of crap roads and relatively noisy tyres
  20. Make sure you get the dodo juice leather sealant as well, stops it from going that groggy again! Just spray directly onto the seat and agitate with a soft leather brush. If its soft enough for your skin, its soft enough for the leather. Then just wipe off with damp MF, wait to dry (whilst cracking on with another seat) and apply sealant using a round sponge applicator.
  21. Dodo Juice Supernatural leather kit for sure. Dont be tempted by Dr Leather - its more expensive but no better at cleaning
  22. Well worth having - seems to love sitting on the paint for a good 6 months as well.
  23. The Eco mode is generally rubbish and completely ruins the vehicle with no significant gain - may as well keep it in normal mode.
  24. The wipers have a sensitivity knob which can be turned. Ive not had any issues with the wipers in my current RX and IS and any other Lexus vehicle Ive driven apart from my RX300 which was fine until the screen got a chip and was replaced. Then the auto wipers didnt work properly. Its just a matter of figuring out which sensitivity is best for most conditions - for example my RX needs relatively high sensitivity in comparison to the IS which needs a lower sensitivity for the same job. . The reason for it coming on on dry glass can be A - glass is filthy, B - dodgy sensor or C - lighting (it explains this in the manual btw)
