Shocks shouldn't really be an issue on models apart from the Premier. It seems to occur on older 2nd generation RX rather than 3rd gen. Also worth noting that diesel is being frowned upon and something tells me it won't be long before its banned. A few government friends are suggesting 2020 but take that with a pinch of salt as it may never occur

That's not true. Reliability is on percentages or issues per 100 cars. Therefore it's standardised. Let's not forget that Toyota is the biggest car manufacturer in the world and has very good reliability I also think your thinking on drivetrain is flawed. An older engine setup throughout the years means all the issues have been ironed out and removed and a naturally aspirated engine is always going to be more reliable than a turbo diesel There's nothing wrong with the drivetrain in the RX, it's silky smooth and has linear power delivery with good NVH I don't understand the servicing aspects either. You can use who you want to service the car, so costs are probably going to be the same and Lexus parts are cheaper. What difference does it make if independents can update the online service book? An independent can stamp the Lexus book as well! I've driven a combined 120k in my Lexus vehicles and owned them since 2004 with nothing but wear and tear, services and recalls.

Like with all things I presume some people get lucky with reliability whilst others don't. Usually with Lexus more people tend to have no issues whatsoever. Out of all the cars we owned the Merc C220 cdi was the most unreliable. It had failed wheels, rusting arches and drivetrain issues hence it needed to go. That was only at 74k as well. Wasn't great on fuel either, did about 30mpg and span rear wheels quite often regardless of performance tyres. Worst car we've had in the winter too. We've had a passat, fiesta and pug 306 and none of them had as many problems hence my dislike for Mercs. We still have a few in the family and they still have their occasional issues. My father in law got peed off with his and replaced it with a mini Cooper S! The wheel issues have been sorted now. I've had a kerbed wheel for 3 years and it's still the same, no corrosion whatsoever on the RX.

Rusty brake discs are due to being kept outside. Should be fine when driven, it'll just get scored off. Car is missing a rear parcel shelf costing approx £300 Should be able to get atleast £1k off that price too. It's worth between £24-26k dependent on condition. Make sure they have 2 michelin latitude tour hp and 2 Pirelli scorpion Verde on the back. The Michelins are all season and M+S rated and shouldn't be mixed with summer Dunlops on the rear

RX reliability is not an issue. Most owners have no problems, I certainly haven't. The Merc on the other hand, well it had issues even though my wife took better care of it than me for my RX. She had it serviced on the same day every year for 10 years and it still had problems. Have to say merc dealers are the worst ive come across as well. I'd strongly suggest taking a look at E class forums as there's plenty of issues including build quality problems, wheel corrosion etc. Also, if considering an E class, I'd consider a GS450h F Sport. It's a real cracker at handling with its rear wheel steering and goes like stink as well. Lovely to drive, I'd have one if I didn't need the bigger boot no question. I'm not sure whether the E class has more kit as standard either. I'm pretty sure they don't come with HUD, laminated windows, privacy glass and the previous gen has fake leather if not opting for the real leather. Comes with xenon headlights too, not LEDs and most don't have a reversing camera either

Slightly nervous Lexus virgin with a few Q's
rayaans replied to IS300Hdriver's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Hmm the leather seems to wear particularly easy on Premier and Luxury models. I personally wouldn't recommend dye kits and go for a pro repair. They tend to go the same way after a while however, it's probably worth trying just to make sure. I believe Gliptone makes a well recommended leather repair kit. It's unlikely you can make a warranty claim on the leather as the car has covered 40k+ miles and therefore some wear will be expected. I'm surprised it's on the passenger seat though! The coating on the screen wears if using chemicals. Some owners have removed the coating using IPA. It's just an anti glare coating and won't make much difference if any to viewing but it'll look much better I've used Autoglass in the past and they're fairly good. Ensure the windscreen is pilkington glass. If cleaning the headliner, best bet is to do the whole thing using a steam cleaner and shampoo. Don't go overboard or it'll sag. If you do bits there's a high chance there will be patches -
Any reason for going Leon rather than Golf? I know which one I'd choose

Yes the F Sport holds its value better than the Premier. The ML sound is hard to come by as there's not much difference between the Pioneer 8 speaker system in the cars with Premium Nav. The £1000 extra cost of the ML is not worth it IMO, I wrote a thread about this a while back but I'd strongly suggest listening to an F Sport without ML and see if its good enough for you The 6 speaker is best avoided and this is only on cars without premium nav.

Your Lexus Dealer Experience
rayaans replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
It's true and it does happen. Seems to happen more often down south for some odd reason. Some of Lexus Edgeware cars are like that However, my dealer says they prefer to shift cars without complete dealer history through auction as it makes quick cash albeit not as much and most buyers know to look at service books now and therefore they take longer to sell -
The sticky thread is only for 2009-2015 vehicles. The new model has different specs. The hud is definitely worth it but the panoramic view is a bit of a gimmick really and tbh you'll end up becoming unaware of your surroundings and rely on it after a while It's like those idiots on the motorway who are totally unaware of what's going on either side of them when they change lanes inappropriately etc

Insurance group
rayaans replied to jackcramerr's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Insurance is odd. Just because it's a group 50 car doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be more expensive than a car in group 37 For example, my 21y.o. son was quoted £750 on a 06 Polo 1.4 80ps, £950 on a Golf 1.4 120ps and £900 on a Polo 1.4 GTI which is in more than 10 insurance groups higher. -

I've also been quoted a lower insurance price on a GSF than my RX. Apparently the RX is morr risky to insure as its a family hauler. -

I'm sure the IS250 was rated at 7.7s in the US so figures around that would make sense. The IS250 probably feels quicker due to the sound and gearing. The power button will be keeping the revs higher so its always in the power band. The 250 is also more responsive due to the fact it has no turbos to spool up

CT a UK bargain and whats going on with LEXUS pricing?
rayaans replied to talaipwros's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
Because your comparisons are flawed. Youre comparing hybrids to none hybrids and disregarding option packages in the US which significantly increase prices by thousands of dollars. May as well start comparing apples to bananas For example you can only get 2 CT200h's in the US for 1 GS450H But in the UK you can get 2.4. Yet you fail to understand that the lowest spec of GS450H you can get in the UK is actually the F Sport which would cost much more than base price of €63k in the US - say roughly €70k. You can't compare prices of hybrids and none hybrids against each other. If a GS350 was available here in the same spec as the US, it'd probably be cheaper. Also you need to add the PDI and handling charge - about €1k and remember that US cars don't come with certain items like locking wheel nuts. -
Happens on some models of Mercs too. Think its to do with the camber on the front wheels on full lock which becomes extremely positive on the turning side and negative on the opposite side of the car to the extent where only a small strip of tyre is touching the ground
-
Not really, works well enough on the RX and GS and it's quick. Doesnt lag around
-
Yep certainly worth having. Keeps you aware of your speed especially in the RX. Also has navigation instructions, music info etc. With the new one it even provides adaptive cruise control info. Panoramic cameras aren't that important really. You can see behind with the reversing camera anyway and hopefully you can see forwards too. Parking sensors all round help a lot
-
Yes it's exactly the same as the RX and GS now.
-
Hmm seems to be more vehicle specific then. I usually just leave parking brake off now when going for longer than a week
-
Also I've found that some dealers can be quite slimey and mark all 4 wheels as damaged even if only 1 is so worth checking the sheet before signing
