  1. Ah mate they always say that about the air con service. It's recommended at 2 years but TBH I did my previous RX after 5 years and it honestly didn't need doing because it was blowing cold and not musty. It only lost about 10% refrigerant as well over 5 years. My RRG service plan has filters included in it btw. It says on the sheet on what's included. I believe it also gives me free puncture repairs for the family, 10% off all parts, half price MOTs and all filters changed at each service amongst other things I think the air con service was £59

  3. It won't be using the mechanical brakes for most of the braking though - only at lower speeds. Ive managed to get down roads using just the brakes on my RX - all 2.1 tonnes of it and it was charging all the way down rather than using the mechanical brakes
  4. In which case a coating would be fine until the brake pads need changing. Gtechniq C5 is easy to get hold of and cheap. Don't trust the lifetime warranty though, there's so many clauses in there its unbelievable

  6. Gtechniq C5 - without a doubt the only wheel coating I would stick on my wheels. Having said that, if its happened once, chances are it'll probably happen again, coated or otherwise Id expect them to give you new wheels for that but they'll stop accommodating after the warranty period.
  7. Merc used to do some decent gearboxes but the current ones are poor IMO. The auto box in the W203 C220 CDI was great and never had hesitation. The shifts were also very smooth The auto box in the W204 C220 CDI seems a bit dimwitted - doesn't want to change gear, always goes into the highest gear possible. The auto box in the W205 C220 CDI is much of the same although better than in the W204. Still not as good as the W203 one. I wonder if its just everything getting complicated etc. The W203 was rather simple and the auto box was programmed to be a good auto box, not an economy increasing slushbox and I think thats where the problems lies - gearboxes are programmed to be efficient nowadays rather than be good at what they do. The ZF is an exception of course but then, its not exactly an economical box.
  8. Agree with all the above comments. Stick your foot on the brakes rather than using the paddles - much more regen that way and doesn't use the mechanical brakes.
  9. The real question is what are you trying to achieve? Is it performance or low brake dust that you are looking for? Standard high performance brake pads do tend to dust more than others but if you're looking for a brake dust remedy, it may be better to use a wheel coating like Gtechniq C5 in which case you should only need a pressure wash to bring them back up and the dust will stick less.
  10. So the essential servicing only includes the standard service items. Things like spark plugs will be extra but I believe its only about £150-200 so would still be cheaper opting for the essential service and paying for spark plug change separately. As far as I am aware, the air filter is inspected, not changed - even on a standard Lexus service - however, best to double check this with the dealer group. I know that RRG Lexus (Bradford, Bolton and Stockport) change the air filter out simply because my service plan states it as changed and also on the service checklist but I also know that other dealers do not. It is worth remembering that the Spark plugs should be changed according to the mileage - so don't change them at 6 years old but only if the car has reached 60k miles. It says this in the service book too. I think the big ones are the 60k and 100k. The 80k one is just a standard Full service, so is the 40k one.
  11. Fleets and businesses sales are different. Business sales are any sales where a business is involved which could be a small business like a hairdressers. Fleet sales generally include huge companies like Kelloggs or Fox's biscuits both of which have contracts with BMW and Audi. They can usually be car rental companies etc. You can usually tell a fleet sale by the car spec and colour combo, they're usually all the same. Additionally the Lexus service interval is 12.5k for drivers who drive more. Ask in the dealership if you drive more than 10k. They won't turn you down.
  12. Thats not entirely true though - its flagged up for some users at around 10k miles which makes it exactly the same as a normal service. Lexus do offer free service packs if buying a new or used car if you push them hard.
  13. They don't sell very many to fleets at all. Fleet sales and Business sales are entirely different concepts. The average mileage in the UK is classed as 12.5k miles. Other manufacturers such as Audi and VW only offer long life servicing for people doing high mileages. They still have their normal 9k/1 year servicing scheme for private drivers or those who don't do many miles. Ideally a car should be serviced every year anyway and I suspect Lexus factors in their reliability record in the servicing schedule.
  14. Lexus don't sell to fleets etc so they aren't particularly concerned about their mileage intervals as they make more sense for an average user. If you do huge mileages a diesel is almost always better in this regard
  15. Lexus is a premium brand with equally premium prices. Hence why the price of the car is more expensive and also the price of everything else. How else do you think they pay for the fancy leather chairs in the showroom? Its like saying Skoda servicing is cheaper than Audi's, the only difference between Toyota/Lexus and Skoda/Audi being that Lexus in the UK have their own range of engines bar the CT whereas Skoda and Audi use the same bloody units.
  16. 60k in the RX300, 46K in the RX450h, current RX has 13k on it and the IS although 4 years old has 15k on it at the moment
  17. Gut feeling is that they would fit - most dimensions seem to be in L or Cubic feet. With a depth of only 33cm, I would reckon they'd probably fit on top of each other
  18. Either - Brembo are a good brand with great performance. They also make brake pads and discs for certain Lexus models like the RC-F, GS-F, LS and LC. You could always get ceramic brakes from the US - but I really dont think you'd find much improvement in terms of braking on the road and certainly the cost would be much higher
  19. Well TBH with you, my second car was a 1996 VW Passat in that golden yellow colour which they've brought back now on the new Golf - it was bulletproof. My son's had an 06 Polo as his first car, it was also bulletproof. He currently has a souped up VW Golf MK5 which also seems to be bulletproof although he's only done 5k miles in it but its still 10 years old with 70k on the clock.

  21. Isn't yours a 220d 2nd gen though? The 300H doesn't have a flywheel and it doesn't suffer from sticking calipers. I had my RX300 for 8 years without a single issue, an RX450H for 5 years with no issues, currently have an IS300h which is 4 years old and a 1.5 year old RX450H. No issues on any of them so Id probably say the warranty isn't worth it unless you know you have a "high risk" Lexus
  22. I was referring to the new Tiguan. They look awesome and drive pretty well.
  23. Depends on the dealer - some are rubbish and give you a certificate. Others will stamp the book and just write Essential care near the stamp. Dealerships shouldn't be giving discounts anymore - Lexus UK policy - they're doing random spot checks posing as customers and caught a few out recently. The Essential care servicing included hybrid health check according to the spec - TBH it looks no different to the normal service.

  25. Probably wouldn't bother. Seems to be bulletproof You could go for Lexus Essential care servicing after the 5th birthday which would reduce overall costs
