  1. On a new car I would certainly go through insurance. Also, the sonic titanium paint is a PITA to get correct so don't just let any wally have a go. I wouldn't be so sure in the cost at renewal going up - my wife went into the garage door in the IS - Bumper and Fender were replaced at a cost of £2.3k by Lexus and the renewal quote actually went down!!
  2. I believe Lexus Birmingham do some good prices on accessories, may be worth giving them a call
  3. Do it through insurance. It'll be atleast £1.5k bill if not more. If the bumper is cracked, itll probably need replacing and then painting
  4. Go for the IS - its better in almost every area and running cost differences between each are negligible.
  5. Maybe less incentive for you to buy one But if you'd been more specific and said you meant yourself, then the reply would have been different. It seemed like you meant it on a national level
  6. Its available from Lexus as someone pointed out earlier in the thread for the 2017 model which should fit the earlier models too
  7. AFAIK RGM make the bumper guards for Lexus. There is a possibility that they just havent updated the website yet so might be worth giving them a call unless Lexus have changed supplier
  8. That's where you're wrong though. Even in an in-car context, it does sound MUCH better than the standard setup. The sound of the 8 speaker in the IS is much better than the standard 6 speaker setup for example and it honestly is very noticeable.
  9. Nobody said it was better a hi fi system. But the point is that the 12 speaker systems and ML systems are better than the 8 speaker systems in the Lexus models. It's stupid to believe otherwise. There wouldn't be any point in having an LS with a 19 speaker ML reference sound system if an 8 speaker job would do. The 6 speaker setup on the CT is genuinely awful and undoubtedly worse than other marques at the same price range.
  10. To be fair, he was pretty spot on about the NX sound system on the base models. The 8 speaker set up doesn't sound great. Its similiar to the 6 speaker setup in the base IS and CT but I guess we're all used to much better sound systems - for example, the 8 speaker setup in my RX300 was great, the 12 speaker in the 3IS and 4RX are top notch and the 15 speaker ML setup in the 3RX is good too. But the main thing is, if you're happy with it, then thumbs up!
  11. Clay bar won't be able to get into the edge I don't think. Wheel cleaner shouldn't be ruining wheels unless dilution is off. Id say the refurb was poor.
  12. So is Fred leaving Stockport and going to Bradford or staying at both?
  13. That's the norm with most cars nowadays though. The new Merc 9-speed auto's will do 1200rpm at 90mph, same with the LC500 10-speed auto
  14. Change the batteries every 2 years and you shouldn't come across this issue again. These batteries only have a guaranteed life of 2 years so shouldn't die within that period but they could last up to 1-3 years afterwards but its luck of draw.
  15. Never bought a Lexus Extended Warranty and probably never will. My experience with these vehicles has taught me that its usually money down the drain unless you've got an unlucky vehicle! Had 4 now with no issues multiple years out of warranty period
  16. TBH I've always changed Lexus light sensitivity to -2 on every model My 3RX, 3IS and 4RX all worked exactly as they should i.e turn on when dark and turn off when light. Nothing more annoying to me than people driving around with headlights on when its barely dark at all.
  17. I dont think they're clued up on it as not many of the models are without nav. Mine is also the premium nav version so may be different in terms of mirrorlink. Im pretty sure someone got mirrorlink working on their 2018MY facelift IS300h though
  18. Not really. Its more a case of less incentive to buy any other car as well unless its an EV. And the papers are blaming lower September car sales on Brexit when its actually the tax going up by a chunk for plenty of cars and loads of owners buying just before the tax change so no need for them to change for another few years
  19. Yes the Turanza's on the IS are extremely hard wearing. They're about 5mm at the moment after 14k miles so I don't doubt they could do another 14k with 2mm tread in the end. The RX has Dueler H/L on. Reasonably quiet but wear extremely quickly compared to the Dunlops
  20. I wouldn't use tar remover to be perfectly honest. Reason being is that they also double up as glue removers so there is a high chance it'll seep underneath and cause the edges to roll over. Additionally, being PPF, I wouldn't use a tar remover anyway as they aren't designed to be used on plastic so would imagine that it may stain the PPF itself. You shouldn't get any dullness of the paint unless its already in very bad shape to begin with. To remove the PPF, I did one side by heating the entire PPF with a hairdryer. Worst decision I ever made as it left loads of glue behind which took the mick to remove. The other side, I heated a corner with a hairdryer and then just pulled it. It comes off really easy without heating the glue up, you just need a good corner section to hold onto.
  21. Pretty much. I think the point of it is to show you whats wrong with the car so you trust them more. Lexus Bradford have been doing it for 2 years now all around the car and underside too, brake check, suspension, bla bla bla.
  22. If you want to clean it you need something like a toothbrush to get underneath but I never did this in fear of damaging the paint. They annoyed me and I found it a genuine PITA to clean them as much as possible so just removed them - looks much cleaner IMO And no stone chips on this area after 4 years by the way - Im very very skeptical about this little piece of PPF - the place that really needs PPF is probably the front bumper than this area. Additionally, this particular car was bought from Lexus Chester - cant complain with the service I got, and the deal on the vehicle too.
  23. There were a few instances of IS models having dodgy sensors for the auto lights. However, if you have got your sensitivity to low then I would class the behaviour as normal.
  24. Lucky you! My RX has covered 14k miles and the front tyres only have 3mm left. In contrast, the 2012 did 25k on one set so Im not entirely happy with the OEM bridgestones
  25. Could well be if the carpet has been cleaned with TFR or all purpose cleaner which can precipitate fungal growth if not dried properly. However, I would expect a musty smell in the cabin
