De-icer spray... yes or no?
rayaans replied to DanD's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Well yes. Its got IPA amongst other things in it so it'll remove any protection on the paint. IPA basically is a panel wipe to remove wax and oils. De icers do leave marks on the paint if leaving for more than a week or so but it does come off. I would presume it's due to other things rather than the alcohol inside them My son doesn't wash his car for weeks after applying and it's caused no lasting effects -

Id strongly advise against that. Its not ethyl alcohol. 30ml is enough to be lethal -

It's not bad for the environment if used properly. It's only if it's getting into open water etc. It's certainly much better than warming the car up for 10 mins! It's not that bad for wiper rubber as you'd think. It doesn't seem to degrade them. Remember that IPA is frequently used to clean wiper rubbers On a side note, the block heater slot is used in the US where they have the option of remote start. I'm sure you could do it if you wanted to and we're persistent. -

No the new models don't come with heated windscreens. There's a good reason for it. It's a fundamentally flawed setup with wiring running through the windscreen. Having experienced this on Volvo XC90, Jag F pace and Ford Fiesta, it causes serious glare at night and is visible during the day as well. The only invisible one on the market is VWs which uses a thermal coating rather than wires. Damage the windscreen it's a heck of a bill on them! -
Nope it's standard on all Premier models. Premium nav gives the 8 speaker uprated setup

Both cars are garaged so don't have to. However sons golf is parked outside so freezes up. I've found that the Carplan de icer is crap as it refreezes However, the Prestone de icer which I got from ECP/CP4L is really good. Doesnt refreeze at all and works quickly. It's the one in the spray can but a quick search suggests the trigger spray is just as good You could just make your own using 70% IPA which is damn effective. It's the main ingredient in de icers anyway I'm impressed with the 4RX heated seats though. Get warm in 1 minute and do get properly hot if not careful. -
The horn sounds when the alarm is going off. Might be worth keeping a window open when locked and waving your arm around. Better yet, lock the wife in. Good way to check if it's working rather than just loose wiring from the steering wheel input.

I have now switched!

The button from the IS is no longer there. It's the same stalk as the RX where you click it down once to go to a auto, twice for intermittent and so on. Also worth remembering that you need to turn the car off and then hold the stalk fully up for a few seconds to go into service mode so the wipers can be changed easily. -
I bought the lifetime one so didn't pay £150 per year. I paid about £300 for the subscription from tracker and £299 for the unit and fitting at Lexus Stockport I was forced to get it through insurance though but didn't bother with the new one

Lexus horns are deep and pretty loud. You're probably right in thinking the low horn isn't working.

Take a picture. Red dust probably means rust. Like I said rain will oxidise brake discs and this will shed off when braking in the morning at low speed. It could also mean you have sticking calipers at front. Won't be to do with parking brake as those attach to the rear. Could be shot pads but it's worth visiting the dealer straight away rather than messaging because they'll tell you to come in anyway

Interesting. I agree with the ride and noise. Satnav to me is easy to use. I can input London without hassle and the road name if needed. Never had an issue with phone pairing either. Headlights are just syandard affair compare to NX which is probably why you thought they were bad. Additionally lower cars give a perception of less light given out on the road. Remember the CT is nearly 7 years old now despite all the facelifts that they keep bringing out. It just needs a complete overhaul to be honest.

Fitting lower red reflectors with LED's?
rayaans replied to Chunky1234's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I've seen them fitted but they look naff. Anyone with an eye for bulbs can see those are aftermarket as they're too small -
That's not true though is it? The SUV is the biggest growing market and it's because they're perceived as more practical and also have a good view of the road. They tend to have more head and legroom too than saloons for example and look better to most than estates. The 300h in the NX struggles up a hill with 5 people and suitcases. It struggles on the motorway to maintain 70mph fully loaded to the gills and requires lots of throttle input to get going which in turn makes a racket. Drive an RX450H and youll instantly know the difference. The RX feels strong at any speed, any incline and even when fully loaded. It's one of the main reasons diesels are favoured in SUVs because of the torque Like joining a motorway for example. In the RX you give a good stab of the throttle and it's at motorway speeds which makes merging easier. I've found the NX takes a long time to get up to speed which is problematic on smaller slip roads like on the A64 where some slip roads literally turn onto a motorway and you have no chance of getting on if you stop at the lines.

Probably depends on availability and how quick you need it doing. I asked for one but they said they had them all booked for services etc and I'd have to wait for a few weeks. I chose to get an immediate fix and forego the loaner. Just dropped and picked up both kids from school instead for 5 days as the car was back pretty quickly. The only reason I went to Bradford first is because i didn't know who they used at the time but I do now so Id probably go direct as well.

Unlikely on shocks going. I hate the bridgestones with a passion. Poor ride comfort and they have really bad grip to top it off. Mine spins the wheels on every junction. The santa fe has small wheels and very large sidewalls. It's also probably not very dynamically capable. The point of the RX since its launch in the 1990s was to give a car like feel to an SUV. You could always drop down to 18" wheels but the RX rides pretty well on most roads but the speed does need to be maintained. It gets worse the slower you go.

I got a tracker fitted to my previous RX as the then current insurer wouldn't insure otherwise. It brought my inaurance down by £200 in first year compared to cheapest without and £100 year on year. Paid for itself in 5 years as I got the lifetime subscription which is about £100 more than 3 year subscription. Chances of an LC getting nicked is slim though. Not much demand. Id be more wary if I had a 911 Turbo or Audi R8/Huracan

My wife did the same on our IS except she went into the garage door. My dealer is Lexus Bradford who use the RRG bodyshop in Bolton. I had to pay non approved repairer excess I think but all the panels were fitted properly, the paint patch was spot on and panel gaps were all the same. I went through insurance and it was £2.3k needing new front bumper and wing with front door, a pillar and bonnet needing blending in. Lexus picked up the car, fixed it in a week and dropped it off again. Massively efficient service and the job was top notch. Been 2 years since and no problems at all, no one would know Tbh I wouldn't take the IS to anyone other than Lexus. These guys know how to take the car apart and put it back without any diagrams. I wouldn't take my car to someone who probably hadn't even worked on an IS before. Oh, this is my wifes car this year when I washed it

If youre going pre facelift there's not much difference at all so I would urge you to go for an earlier model as it'll cost you less. The facelift has only been around since the beginning of this year so if you want a facelift model there's not much choice

They don't get used much at the back so need some good emergency braking procedures. Also its worse if the car is parked outside as they inherently rust up in bad weather. Mine's garaged and gets used fairly well once a month atleast so it keeps them clean
