New Smart key (Fob)
is200 Newbie replied to vette's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
There no way round this one - some dealers may be cheaper than the others - some may program a key for free if theres a good relation ship between buyer and dealer. There's no option of a Timpson style key copy. Its good in a way as the key cant be copied but on the other hand, in your instance bad due to the cost and hassle in getting a spare key. Have you got the master? How long have you had the car? -
Sad :(

Sad that it comes to have a need for them but car cams are useful. Any shop or area CCTV available? -
Nice job - I will be looking for a diffuser soon when I get my exhaust done - I have found one and just need to order (from the states) Is it quite flexible to fit the shapes of the bumper? Also you mentioned panel bond - could this be used to adhere the diffuser onto the bumper? I was planning to get it sprayed up at a body shop and then stick it on. Would be nice to have the use of a garage like you have..

Diff locations I have indicated below the diff drain plug circles in the first picture - pretty obvious I think as it will drain easy and below that the image of the filling plug circles. These diffs are the type that drain and not the type you need to manually suck the fluid out of? Do either of these require a fibre washer like the engine oil drain plug does. Also, When filling do I need to stop when fluid starts to come out of the fill hole?

With the ignition on... Move the selector on the door to the left mirror position. Using the up/down/left/right toggle, move the mirror to the extremes of each plane until you hear it clicking then move it back until you hear it clicking. Do this to all the selections (up/down/left/right) then do it for the drivers side mirror. Set your mirrors in your normal driving position and then save the setting using the memory buttons on the drivers door. Turn the ignition off. Make sure the selection button is set to the right mirrors Turn the ignition back on, open the drivers window, then select reverse. Listen for a motor whine (low hum) or a clicking or watch to see if there's any twitching on the mirror In moving it to the extremes of each plane it may release any muck holding it back. I done this on mine and it did clear it a bit but not enough so I dismantled it

Where does everyone buy their service parts from? IS 250 Auto 2007 I bought a bulk pack of oil filters a while ago and need to get some in before I do the next service. Oil filter and drain plug washer. Will be replacing the brake fluid and cabin filter also. Will be looking to do plugs next year (or late this year) at 100k although there's no sign they need replacing - I may do them in the summer while the weathers good (or not?!) I am ok for oil and air filter.

Just tried to record exhaust - done it on phone but too much background noise

Running without the exhaust heat shield
is200 Newbie replied to markio's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Its there for a reason but saying that mine had come off on a few cars, I ran them for years with no issue. Its not an MOT failure if you are worried about that. -
I have been looking at sets similar to these - be nice to see a picture of them on the car when the rubber arrives are they 18's or 19's? How did you get the sound files posted? I have a stainless cat back exhaust on mine and it sounds quite deep, rumbling noise, not to excessive outside but an annoying drone in the cabin at around 2k revs. I will post the sound if its an easy process.

Check them against the picture of the cog in the post I put up. I have copied it into the "How To" section but spelt the title wrong !! duh !! I replaced two of mine and I spent a lot of time looking for the cogs, found the motor manufacturer in the states but no luck in receiving any replies from them - eventually had some samples delivered to me from a supplier at work and they were spot on. If I can find the details I will post the details up. You need to consider the pitch of the thread on the cog and the length of it. I used a very small amount of rubber grease (same as that from the slide pins on the brake calipers) and wd40 (small amount on the motors themselves. Done this last year and they are still operational. Note the other components to grease/oil also. Its a relative easy job - just be patient. I am pretty sure the issue comes from when they are frozen in the winter, the teeth strip/wear when reversing and the mirrors unit is frozen (althouth its folded out)

Copied here from the general forum ... Finally got around to looking at these.- the tilt function when reversing worked well when I bought the car but over time it has reduced to the point where it just twitched when moving into reverse. I planned to have a look at it months ago but just never got round to doing it. I done it today and took pictures of each step. It took half an hour for the first mirror and 20 minutes for the second so not a time consuming job. I needed to replace two worn plastic motor worm gear cogs which had partly stripped and I gave the mirrors a very good clean inside and out. Re-greased and oiled. They had accumulated a lot of dirt over the years and I don't think anyone had been in them since it rolled off the production line so it was a well worthwhile job. They are now working spot on and are holding their memory positions when starting the car. I could not get them to stop working after testing them for about 10 minutes so am happy and confident they are now fixed. I think the winter has a big effect on them when they are frozen up - they will automatically try to set themselves to the user position and also will try to move when reversing which puts a strain on the motors making them skip and strip teeth. Anyway - what I have done below worked for me - I have two good motor units left spare which I sourced which you can use the plastic work gear from or the units themselves if anyone does this and finds they need them. Pictures below are in sequence marked from picture 1 to 14. I have never managed to fit them into a post with instructions against them so the instruction is on the picture itself.

I would consider an OEM part for this as if there's issues with low battery in the fob or it runs out on the fob then holding the fob up close to the start button will enable the car to start as it recognises the fob. Not sure if it has a sensor in the start button itself? Maybe someone can shed some light ...

The paints so soft on these - only took a bag of peat from the garden centre out of the boot but rubbed it on the bumper and it left slight marks. I actually looed for an OEM protector but could not find one - they seem to be available for a lot of models but not the IS. Its been on a week now, through the rain and the frost and still secure.
