  1. I may be wrong but if you can prove this then you will have recourse against the seller of this car, whether its a private seller or dealer but you must act quick to get this resolved - like John said above, if a fault with the ABS, yes its an MOT failure but more importantly will reduce the effectiveness of braking if using. Trading standards will give you advise and if the fuses have been pulled with the intent to deceive you then you have a very good case.
  2. The expansion tank is behind the front grill - black cap if I am not mistaken
  3. no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no - don't put Chinese plugs in this Considering the plugs last 100k+ then at £80 they are a good cost effective choice compared to other cars that would have had 2 sets in them by this point. If no luck in finding the OEM cheap then keep an eye out for sales promotions through Eurocarparts as they come along quite frequently and sometimes you can get a good deal compared to other sites... but I agree with everyone else that state Lexus Birmingham are the best place to source parts
  4. With John on that one ... the sensor in the boot is located under the carpet by the spare wheel - weird looking object ! Might be worth looking to see if it has been damaged but I am not sure how this will translate to the boot not locking.
  5. It is an easy job to do yourself but if you don't have tools or space to do it then it makes sense to spend the extra few pounds to have the Lexus specialist do it. If you want to be sure that the service has been made then ask to see the old components that have been changed.
  6. Theres also a temperature sensor on the side of the battery housing - remember to re-connect (you will more than likely need to disconnect this before the battery can be removed anyway)
  7. Might sound like a daft suggestion but do you have a set of keys in the boot assigned to the car - is the boot preventing itself from locking / closing because it thinks theres a key in the boot?
  8. An hour tops - it comes from doing them often - theres not a lot of parts to remove and its a relatively simple process in greasing them.
  9. I use Brembo discs and Mintex or Lexus pads - no problem with either.
  10. Mintex from ebay at around £25 and a doddle to fit yourself
  11. It really needs to be a hi temp grease, if not it will either break down or harden to a gum with continual heating up/cooling down within the caliper.and it wont act as a water repellent should any get in if the grease isn't suitable..
  12. The red rubber grease is what's used by the service guys but the issue is that greasing the calipers is not on any regular service plan. It needs to be done annually (at least) - with it not being a requirement for any service then the calipers can go years without checking until they finally seize. To just grease the pins on all 4 corners it takes 1 hour which is nothing compared to the cost and hassle you will have if they seize. I would stick to the OEM grease or a recommendation from people who have used it long term with no issue as trying different compounds out can result in problems. In all honesty it depends on how often you grease the pins as to how they last.
  13. That's the one... Not had an issue with it since using - comes in a toothpaste sized tube - its not only the lubrication from the grease that you need to consider, its also the interaction it has with the rubber seals on the caliper - the wrong type of grease will attack the seals and while initially fine, you will see a marked difference in how the rubber fits and protects the moving parts when greasing again (wont contract and seal as well) - once this happens then dirt and water can get in and that's when the problems start - doesn't take long for the parts to rust and seize. Personally, I would rather re-grease the pins regularly than change the rubber seals on a regular basis. I grease mine every 6 months (after the winter and before the winter) it can be done annually but its my preference to do them on a 6 month basis - while doing them I will oil all the rubbers and give the arches a good clean also. Keeps the car in good shape - also alerts you to other emerging issues in the wheel arches.
  14. You can take them apart and if you are that way inclined then there is a post on here from a user who done this - if I can find the post I will link it into this post. You would probably be better sourcing this from the USA as it would be a lot cheaper but check the beam is right first http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-08-Lexus-IS250-350-w-o-Auto-Level-Halogen-Passenger-Headlight-/311062772522?fits=Make%3ALexus|Model%3AIS250&hash=item486cc93b2a:g:o0oAAOSwPe1T-N7C&vxp=mtr
  15. Exhaust (still to fit diffuser) / Boot spoiler and roof lip spoiler.
  16. One easy mod to the grill which compliments the grill under the bumper ..
  17. Handy to know (under the carpet material under the parcel shelf area?) - how does your boot close now? Do you need to push it all the way down or does it close without pressure half way from closing?
  18. As I only drive the Lex it means its always clean both inside and out. !! Been looking at the MX5's - wifes car starting to cost a bit (Vauxhall Tigra convertible) to maintain just had to fork out over £500 for MOT and a water leak which is common occurrence on these cars and Corsa's. Her friend has just bought a new MX ...... nnnniiiicccceee !! We have been looking at an 07/08/09 but trying to find a convertible hard top. Only window shopping at the moment. Need to joint the MX forum soon for some pointers...
  19. Two weeks ago I used this on the seals around the car ... No more sticking seals - boot used to be hard to open as the metal used to stick to the rubber seals .... no more The drivers door used to creak a bit and I though tit was the same issue with the seals hardening - although the noise is still there it is not as bad as before. Will carry on using it to do the seals and hopefully it will disappear altogether Doesn't mean I can go shopping now though !
  20. thanks Chris - added to the list - do you have any pictures or locations as to where these are fitted?
  21. It depends which insurer you are with as to who they use - I had my old is200 screen replaced by AA as I was with them ... others use different companies but I did ask if the screen, at the time, could be fitted by Lexus and the installer said I would need to organize that through calling the insurer. Another point - Lexus don't make screens so make sure you request the original part if they can get it...
  22. I hope you were doing this indoors ... how did you get on?
  23. I use Toyota red rubber grease - what Lexus uses I have not used copper grease (copperease can be used on anti squeal shims on the pads) I am not too sure about what type of grease you mean by copper grease. If you have a Toyota or Lexus dealer near you then pop into the service dept and get a tube of this - part number Toyota Rubber Grease 08887-83010 Maybe someone that uses copper grease can confirm its ok to use on pins?
