  1. I use two ramps - normal ones (I think the height is 1foot max) - no problem getting under to change - there is a plastic panel to remove first then the oil filter housing is visible. Special tool is required to remove the oil filter. Oil drain plug is further back from the filter but no hassle with the car on the ramps. I am pretty sure that a 14mm socket is required to take the drain plug off (in any case its a standard sized nut)
  2. Changed the oil today - used the last washer I had - took a picture of the used on to show the sizes - may be usefull for someone... Fibre based - not metal)
  3. Just completed an oil change today - bought this oil catch can from ebay last week and gave it a go - found it a lot easier to use than the old 6 litre tub I had from Halfords. This holds 16 litres which is more then enough - slid under the car nicely. The spout on it is especially handy as it fits in the top of the used oil tubs so you can empty the oil into them with no mess.
  4. I would suggest you have a good read of the issues on the diesel Lexus models from the owners on this web site. Dealers will of course tell you its a fantastic car as they want to sell it. I have not had one of the diesels so cant really comment but from what I have seen from user issues then look for an IS250
  5. Has it had a new windscreen? (water getting into the cabin) Check out the fuse boxes for water damage anyway - there are quite a few -
  6. Agree with Shahpor - code reader would be your first step to see if it reveals where the issues lie But - what were the issues you were facing?
  7. Quick question ... Does the cd changer need coding to the car or nav system on a 2007 IS - the unit will be a direct replacement
  8. Not sure when I done mine but they still tilt down and back up when reversing - think its been a year or so now. To be honest I don't use the function much if at all but when I checked this week they both dip the same. You are right, its not a hard job - maybe the dealer tested this on a 250 that needs cleaning as why else would they clean the mirrors if not faulty as there's no need to - not on any service schedule either The cog on the picture of the motor looks a bit worn or is that just grease on the teeth and it looks a bit concave also or is that just the grease again. Did you test the motors to see if they worked under load when in reverse?
  9. There seems to be a big time discrepancy in replacing these air bags - mine took 2 and a half hours yet I have seen other dealers through this post quoting anything up to 6 hours ... seems odd
  10. .... and yes, both tilt down the same amount
  11. Are they under warranty or are you looking for the dealer to fix this?
  12. Search the forum for this walk through on how to clean the inner gubbins of the mirrors and motors "Wing Mirrors - Auto Tilt feature"
  13. Both mine tilt together - like yours they were starting to reduce in the angle they done this when in reverse but I cleaned them out and replaced one motor and they went back to normal. Total strip down and there was a lot of muck in there. The walk through on how to do this is on the forum if you search for it - If I can dig it out I will post the link here Why has the dealer said only one side tilts lower than the other - the car can be reversed with the kerb on both sides?
  14. Report post Basically - whats best Diesel or Petrol I know the issues with Lexus diesel and to some extent the same issues with other manufacturers (DPF etc) So a conversation ensued in a pub this evening regarding the best option, petrol or diesel. The question arose against a 2016 3.0 diesel X5 BMW and my 2007 petrol is 2.5 SE-L. Obviously the BMW (due to the age will win hands down) on performance only - interior in my opinion is still sub standard from the IS (even my old 2007 model) BUT - I could not argue the point against the equivalent diesel version of a Lexus (as they don't make them anymore) so the conversation went along the lines of an equivalent 3.0 petrol car (not necessary a Lexus) vs. a 3.0 diesel X5 BMW. So I am guessing along the lines of what would be the best option between the above (BMW X5 3.0) and the nearest Lexus model to a 3.0 model (Rx / Nx etc) Would I be right in saying that after taking into account the weight ration between the BMW above and the IS 250 (mine) and all the other factors but basing the figures on an IS that was looked after and probably with a bit more BHP than stock. Would it be blasted out of the park in an 0 to 60 dash bearing in mind one is diesel and one is petrol. What I am was trying to establish in the pub was that, for all the faults that diesel FUEL has (as I am sure the engines are ok in any car - the diesel is engineered to be too clean these days) is it better than petrol - would like to base this on basically Lexus vs BMW and I would think there would be a lot of different views on this, My point would be keeping a diesel for many years doing short journeys (sub 4k) would not be a good idea, even when doing a good blast to keep the DPF clean - ok for petrol though. So a 3.0 diesel BMW vs a 3.0 petrol Lexus - whats best ????? Report post
  15. Good answer - I prefer the Lexus brand to the BMW anyway so it was not to sway my decision but to have an informed choice on which was best Still ..... any conclusive proof that our Lexus 3.0 models are better then the equivalent BMW ones - Also would a 250 stand a chance against a 3.0 X5 - considering one is a diesel and one is a petrol (0-60), I am guessing the weight difference would come into play, also one is virtually new "tech" and one is "old" tech driving
  16. Have posted this in the IS section also as its relevant Basically - whats best Diesel or Petrol I know the issues with Lexus diesel and to some extent the same issues with other manufacturers (DPF etc) So a conversation ensued in a pub this evening regarding the best option, petrol or diesel. 17. Theres a couple of other areas to check 1/ INNER corroded rims - I had that lately where the car had a vibration - could not figure out where it was coming from until I had a tyre removed on the off chance it was wheel related as there was a slow puncture but no evidence of any objects in the tyre. As expected the inner wheel had corroded around the edge of the rim letting air out. I have not sortheed it yet as I will be looking for non Lexus wheels soon. 2/ As I could not resolve the above easy when I was initially looking I was being steered towards issues with the gear box - in particular the torque convertor - as it will produce the vibration I was experiencing or lastly a work "guibo" (rubber washer between gear box and transmission) Hope its not any of these two issues.
  18. If you have changed the discs and the shudder has appeared after the new discs have gone on have you ensured that the faces of the new disc and the mating surface of the hub are spotlessly clean - it there's any dirt between the surfaces when putting the new disc on then they will not be true when braking and will give the feeling of brake judder as if the discs are warped. Same goes for the wheels when putting them back on, make sure the mating faces are clean. You can also check to see if the wheel nuts are all tight - sometimes the wheel can feel its been tightened up but the self centring nuts dont sometimes centre well and will leave the wheel sometimes not secured properly although it feels like it has been. Have you tightened the wheel nuts in opposite pairs? Another symptom can be uneven tyre pressure but your tyres need to be well under pressure - sure you would notice that. Also it could be a failing shock absorber but never experienced this just seen people mention it. Lastly - could be an unbalanced wheel although you would feel that while driving. Is it from the front or back? If theres issues with the front you can feel it more through the steering wheel when braking - if on the rear then you can feel it more through the drivers seat when braking. I suppose when you have exhausted all the suggestions, then it "could be" a problem with the parts sourced? Have they come from a reliable source and are they branded? like David has said above - make sure the pins are greased but I would presume you have done this as you have said you have serviced the calipers? Did you, when servicing the calipers make sure the pistons were moving freely and the pins were free?
  19. This one as well - most of the nice cars had "nappies" on the bumpers ..why bother with a nice car if you have to cover them in protection - didn't work for the one in the picture though ....
  20. Just back home from a trip to New York Saw this steam powered Lexus over there and thought I gotta take a picture ..!!!!
  21. I was thinking you could use the emergency unlock tool but I guess its in the tool bag in the boot?
  22. Thanks Shahpor Never thought to look in the manual
  23. Anyone know if its an easy process to take the two jets off in order to clean out - the drivers side on mine is still working but only sprays through half of the jet. Have had a quick look and it looks like the bonnet noise insulation needs to come off first?
