  1. Obviously £220, but the policy differences relate, NFU provide legal protection, higher personal benefits, a minimum RAC cover, and lower excess by £150! I don’t need any of the above, and the Lexus has the 3 year AA cover. Tesco Gold provide equivalent car to you own, with no limit, higher personal effects cover, etc. The policy variations are to many to list here, but of course NFU are highly rated, No 1 on Which, and have the higher customer service/ satisfaction ratings. As I’m sure you are aware, Insurance is a minefield, and you only really know how good any policy is until you come to claim!
  2. Well gentlemen, decision time is looming ! I definitely won’t do Nutshell, Marshmallow, or Hedgehog, and having scoured the comparison market, read reviews until I’m blue in the face, and studied the individual policies, that are available to an RX owner ( a lot ain’t) I have a choice of two policies. 1 Tesco Gold policy at £1062, their reviews are equivalent to the likes of Saga, Aviva and the like. 2 NFU Mutual policy at £1242, their reviews are top of the tree, and customer satisfaction is excellent for both customer service and claims satisfaction. This policy however does not contain as many features as the Tesco policy! I have to ask is the extra £220, for NFU and peace of mind, worth it over the Tesco policy 🤔🥴🤯 Where will you place your bets gentlemen, and by the way, any contributions greatly received 🤣😂
  3. Just out of interest Charles, did you buy from a comparison site, or from Tesco direct?
  4. Thanks chaps, but not for me I’m afraid, declined to quote !
  5. I know there’s a lot of listings under this subject, but, mine is now due for renewal later in May. I was previously with LV, but they decline to re- insure, as do Axa, and Aviva! Looking on the comparison sites, I am getting quotes from NCI, Hedgehog, Marsh bloody Mallow, none of which I have heard of before, and none of which I really fancy insuring with, because if you dig into the policies, either the market value they place on your vehicle can be £10-15k short of its representative value, they don’t appear to offer EU cover at all etc. I have a quote from Tesco, of over £1k for their Gold policy, which seems to cover all eventualities and is Defaqto 5* policy, anyone here any experience of dealing with them for car insurance? I am also finding policies from One Call, quite competitive, although as they are brokers, I don’t know who they place the risk with, and has anyone used Howdens insurance brokers?, any thought would be appreciated.
  6. I would thoroughly recommend the ghost. It won’t stop the initial damage, but your vehicle will still be where you left it, and it will give you peace of mind! The only downside is inputting a code and the short wait, but a wise investment in these times of high insurance and no police!
  7. I’ve had ghost fitted for 12 months now, no issues whatsoever, if the problem was not there before your ghost / tracker installation, that would appear where the problem lays.
  8. Well, I’m now at the end of my together. Today I left my RX on the drive, and there it can bloody well stay. This really is a ***** show when you can’t get a tyre for two days. The option to replaced the damage Dunlop, like for like, ain’t happening, cos there ain’t t none. Lexus tell me the Dunlop, on 18 month old RX are a discontinued tyre, but bless ‘em, they did offer a Bridgestone at £285!!!! Tyre dealers knocking them out for £224! So having done my homework, looks like sticking a Yokohama on the near side rear, which from comments here seem to be what the dealers are doing anyway. I don’t see it as being a problem,as it’s not actually on the driven axle. The fear is you get a puncture when your abroad, what chance of sourcing a new tyre then 🥴
  9. Thanks Len, i am sure The Dunlop claim is no different to any other tyre manufacturer when they market their product. The problem is, I can’t find one, they are all unavailable! I am not happy to continue any longer than I have to with the repaired tyre, and I ain’t changing two, so a Michelin, Goodyear or Bridgestone may be the only option. The emphasis really is they are all radial ply these days. What does the Highway Code say about tyres……only use round black ones 🤣😂
  10. That’s a no, as the puncture is too close to the tyre shoulder for a vulcanised interval patch to stay in place , hence the plug is a better option in his opinion. My choice will be to replace the tyre , but can’t bloody find a Dunlop anywhere that’s in stock, so may have to put another brand on that corner!
  11. Well, it has happened, rear near side tyre has found a nail, about one and a half inches from the tyre shoulder, but within the tread pattern. It goes without saying none of the tyre dealers out there will repair it, as usual, ‘ it’s a new tyre mate’ However, my local garage, who I have dealt with over many years, removed the nail, and has put a plug in it, which appears, for the time being having solved my problem if a slow puncture! I have previously owned VW Touareg, and Audi Q5, both permanent 4 wheel drive, and if I changed tyres, it had to be as a pair, due to gearbox wind, apparently? Now back to the RX, this is not a permanent 4 wheel dive, and as such, I will replace the one affected tyre, eventually. The RX is predominantly a front wheel drive, and the tyres on the affected rear axle have only covered 9.5k miles, so am I correct in thinking I could get away with changing just the one tyre? Now, my tyres are Dunlop sport Max 050, 235 55 20, V rated, and despite my best efforts, I find the best price to be £166, which is fine, but, the price also seems to stretch to £220 each, but every where I go, no stock, or currently unavailable. Obviously I don’t want to change both tyres on the axle, so it does appear for the time being I’m sticking with the plug, of which there are various reports out there, all confirm they are perfectly legal, some say they have lasted the life of the tyre, others say a temporary fix, which is my preferred option. So it’s a case of watch this space, as I continue to search, perhaps try my dealer tomorrow!
  12. This underfunding is the answer to every failing institution in this country! As someone who knows personally about the police service, it started to deteriorate in 1997, when the name change happened. Force, to Service, and the whole political correctness and wokeism began. The officers today are a different breed to years ago, they no longer get support from senior officers and even colleagues they work with, all to eager to stab each other in the back, in pursuit of being cleansed Some even join the job, and then realise they have to work nights, and refuse, hence, no police on the streets at night to see the one eyed RX! We have become a mamby pamby country, with a soft belly that anyone in the world can take advantage of! Rant over, carry on !!!!!
  13. Hello Ed, I think the value of all luxury vehicle's has taken a kicking recently. The only survivors that show price increase, are the small 1.0 litre fart boxes, with low insurance and tax. I reckon if you own an RX Mk 4, or any previous models, it has become a keep it or take a kicking. Personally I will probably keep mine, as the final balloon payment I will have to make in 2026, is such that if I hand the car back, I certainly couldn’t buy an upmarket luxury car. Yes, I could buy a brand spanner’s MG, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen etc, and I have nothing against any of those vehicles……but they ain’t a Lexus! So I’ll stick for the moment with my RX and it’s 10 year warranty, that way, values don’t apply 🤔
  14. Don’t start me on wokeism, I recall seeing some bloke in South Africa years ago. It was prevalent at the time for the locals to stop the nice motors and threaten the driver to vacate the vehicle and the they would drive of in it. So this guy fitted some burners to both sills and when approach he would ignite them, severe blast of about four burners on each sill, bbq the the thieving tow rags! Imagine doing that today 😂😩🤣
  15. Yes Ed, I think I am in the same mindset too. Just like you I love the brand, the quality, the dealers, and in all honesty it’s not the cars fault, it’s the thieving scumbags that are the problem. I have no doubt at all this will affect the brand, and take loyal customers elsewhere, ( just avoid Audi, there dealers are crap)and who can blame them, at the end of the day cash is king, and if owning a Lexus means being fleeced by insurance companies I don’t see an alternative really, sad situation 😩
  16. Yes Colin I have seen those, the majority are in the States, or Canada, I haven’t seen any in the U.K. like that. I must be honest, this constant threat is spoiling the ownership experience, does the Mk 5 RX have the same problems?
  17. It does appear that from what I’m reading on here, that most of these theft / attempt theft incident are occurring south of Watford Gap, but mainly around London! I do wonder, are these cars parked on driveways, or outside on the road. Are these owners fitting additional security, ghost, scorpion, steering wheel locks? I know this won’t preclude damage to the front near side wing, but visual deterrent might make these thieving gits move onto something else. Owners do need to do their utmost to stop their pride and joy being nicked, it’s actually getting embarrassing now, the frequency of the RX being targeted, not only for Lexus, but the lack of Police on the streets, to catch any bugger out there. I’m afraid it’s a sign of the times we live in, no one will take responsibility, so we pay the inevitable price of insurance etc. It took me many years of hard graft to finally afford a nice car for my retirement, but all this is making me think twice, and drive an undesirable knacker instead!!!!!
  18. Well at least they are popular, and in great demand ( sarcasm)
  19. I think this topic is getting a little over the top now! Whilst I agree Lexus may have a responsibility to ensure owners protect their vehicles, there are owners out there who, quite frankly don’t give a monkeys whether it gets nicked or not, there view is that’s why we have insurance. Because we value our vehicles, not all are the same, despite the risks, which no doubt they are oblivious to, until the wheel comes off, none of them would consider enhancing the vehicle security, given the know issues. Fitting another immobiliser, quality steering lock, etc, and yes I hear you shout, the near side wing damage will be there, but so will the car, as it can’t be driven away ! I would suggest that the insurance increases are not the fault of the vehicle, although I agree a Lexus advertised recall would probably be beneficial, but we also have to criticise the lack of Police patrols on our streets, to deter these thefts, and be aware of the stolen list menu, so if these vehicles are seen in the early hours, they should be checked. But the Police service is a very poor example of what it was years ago, as the coverage on nights, is basic to say the least, an embarrassment to be frank. Just to put some sense back into this insurance argument. I traded my Audi Q5 for my RX, and have a quote based on the Audi, that came in at £850, with the cheapest quote on my RX being £940! These quotes are from Marshmallow, hedgehog, Ncl, and Nutshell, never heard of them before, but Tesco , Direct line £1100. Yes, it’s far too expensive, agreed, but go and trade your RX in to insure something cheaper, I almost guarantee you will get a kicking on the trade in value, far higher than the insurance premium, because the values have dropped significantly over the last couple of months, but you still have the balance of a 10 year warranty and reliability! There ends my thought on this subject.
  20. Thanks Malc, I was far too rich, until I come to insure it 🥴 and Len, I feel cheated now, and there was me thinking I’d been specially selected 🤣😂
  21. I have today received an email and a letter in the post, inviting me to The Managers Confidential Lexus New Car Event. I should really be exited and honoured in equal measure, because I can get £5k off a new Lexus, and an additional bung from the dealer. Being the owner of an RX, which Mr dum diddy dum LV are now refusing to insure, my thought process goes to, is there anything in the Lexus range that ain’t getting nicked that would be worth changing to? I reckon given the current interest rates, I don’t think it would be cost effective to change, taking into account the luxury car market is in decline, and no assurances that the rest of the range won’t attract rip off insurance premiums as probably still susceptible to canbus theft. It was always my intention to keep the RX long term, but other factors are now in play, which are not the cars fault, but lack of law and order, and Insurance companies raping everyone to pay for the electric cars to save the planet. The jury is out, but a new Lexus 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 ?
  22. I certainly can’t disagree with your comments, today in the U.K. we have an excuse for a police service. I had incident of vehicle theft and theft from vehicle on my dash cam, with facial evidence of offenders, tried to contact the police, and my call was transferred to E.Bob, whatever that is, and no one answers the phone. After 20 minutes of trying to contact someone, I gave up, if it ain’t important to them, it ain’t important to me, but that is the times we live in! But, god forbid you do 34mph in a 30 and they come after you big style, points on licence, fine, and the inevitable insurance company rub their sweaty little palms with glee as they increase you premium. Rant I’ve, going back to bed 😂🤣
  23. Justo turn this subject on it head, anyone had their RX stolen and got it back, and if recovered what state was it in? If not recovered, did the insurance payout meet your expectations? We are all aware that the Police today only issue a crime number, and tough luck old pal, but does anyone know of a police prosecution for the scumbags nicking our pride and joy?
  24. It does appear that insurance companies are now deciding what we are allowed to drive. I too am with LV, so expecting similar when renewal in May. Please keep the site updated with renewal prices and who from to help other members.
  25. I agree, catch the thieves, and use the guillotine 😂🤣
