Well, had the tracker fitted ( for what it’s worth) but declined the geo-fence, fed up with apps for everything. So now the Tracker is fitted, given that we no longer have a Police service that is remotely interested in the theft of your vehicle, who the hell is going to use any information provided by Tracker? -

A question please Paul if I may. I am due to have Tracker fitted on Friday. I am reading on some posts who have had Tracker fitted, appear to have to go into the App, every time they enter or exit the vehicle, to notify Tracker that it’s you. Is this the case, as I really cannot be arsed with that performance. If so I will cancel Thanks Paul -

Thanks Dan, I did get a quote from you back in May, but you weren’t in the ball park, sorry! -

I appreciate it’s probably early days, but I would be interested to find out if anyone has had the free Tracker fitted to their RX4, and had an insurance renewal, has it made any difference to your premium? -
What an absolute shamble. So we have now got what appears to be a second rate Tracker system, that no one will respond too, linked to an App, that may or may not work, and something about a geofence, what is all this crap about? Lexus, it ain’t rocket science, surely you have the technical ability to sort the ruddy Canbus issue, problem solved. Labour will fix the NHS faster than you will have sorted this Canbus issue. The Tracker etc are just gimmicks, I really don’t feel obliged to subscribe to, no value to it as I see it? I would be more impressed if a member came back to me and said ’ I had the Lexus Tracker fitted and my RX4 insurance halved’ This is not the answer!!!!!!!

RX450h Major Service
larryadler replied to Big Kev's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
£80 for wiper blades, more fool you for paying it. Buy and fit yourself, it ain’t rocket science! Fortunately I have a three year service agreement, paid when I bought my RX, and have one service left. Decision time then whether I keep it or hand it back, but , that will depend on other factors, like whether Labour tear the arse out of the motorist, while I love the car, it’s not at any price! -
My other half has last generation CHR, in fact had its first service today. It’s the 2.0 Excel, and we are both very impressed, and returning 59+ mpg, handles and performs well. Of course it’s a smaller car, but we easily manage holidays, with the dog, without any issues, you have to learn to pack the boot better 😂🤣

RX450h Major Service
larryadler replied to Big Kev's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
That’s the price of ownership of a luxury vehicle these days I’m afraid. When I purchased my vehicle I was offered a 3 year service deal, which I took, but in effect only saved about £100! I know these are scary prices these days, I’m from a generation when a tyre was £20, and a service £40, sadly the years have rolled by. The only point I would make is that, if you purchase a Lexus, it really should be a long term decision, to maintain, and keep, and avail yourself of the 10 year warranty. I don’t know, but I would suggest that ownership of other premium brands, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, with an equivalent vehicle, will be very similar in maintenance costs at a franchise dealer, and far mor expensive to repair when their 3 year warranty expires. I do speak from experience as well, Audi are fantastic at selling their cars, but aftercare is nowhere compared with Lexus! In summary, you pays your money, you make your choice. -
I too echo your sentiments Ed, perhaps it’s an age thing, where we acknowledge and appreciate the build quality of the RX4, which I have described as a ‘ Gentleman’s club ‘ after a recent days test drive in the RZ, as nice a vehicle as it was, not a proper Lexus, and more like a ‘ discotheque’ Now there an age thing, do they still have discotheques, 🤔, just going to put my slippers on 😂🤣.

Last week my RX4 went in for service, and I requested an RZ as a courtesy car for the day, and I have to admit, having never driven an all electric vehicle before, I was, overall quite impressed. It has good looks, and handling, very quiet and smooth, as you would expect, excellent performance, and when I collected the car it had 96% battery, giving a range of 232 miles which I considered reasonable, with, I am told a software update to come giving 280 miles, so no too shabby at all. The actual range in fact was under estimated, as the battery life left when I handed it back , would probably have exceeded 250! I would certainly consider the RZ, but only as a second car, if I could afford it. I do not think for one moment this RZ is of Lexus quality throughout the interior, the materials used I felt were plasticy over and beyond what I should get in a Lexus, and the future deprecation, not of the Lexus, but any EV is too frightening for me, as a private buyer to consider. Perhaps the RZ is designed for a new generation of drivers, but on handing it back, I entered my RX4, a gentleman’s club, and left the discotheque behind.

I too have to agree with the sentiment of RX4 v RX5. The Gen5 is a fantastic vehicle, with the Briggs and Stratton engine, it does handle better, and give much improved MPG over the Gen 4. But I do consider there is a big difference in quality, the Bean counters have been at work on the Gen5, and I have to agree, the price tag now being demanded is probably more than I would be prepared to pay. My RX4 has better build quality, better engine, and far more extras as standard, so I’ll be sticking with my RX450h for the foreseeable future . The insurance is of course an issue, but factor in the RX5 depreciation and the insurance is soon covered.

How does having an alarm and immobiliser deter car thieves, I don’t follow this argument. My Lexus already has the manufacturer alarm, and I have fitted an immobiliser, but they still cause damage getting to the canbus to find out they can’t drive it away. Are you relying on some stickers to deter the thieves? OEM stickers, that should do it. I would say a visible steering lock is a deterrent but again not infallible.

Insurance Renewal
larryadler replied to Cypry 1's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
I really do think a lot of it depends on where you live. It also depends on how much you know about insurance companies, and how good their claims procedure is, you’ll never know until you come to claim, as always, you get what you pay for! -
My RX450h came with Dunlops from new. Now approaching 13k miles and no issues, and still I reckon another 8k on the fronts and probably 15k on the rears. That said, I had an unrepairable puncture on one of the rears, and I literally searched the country to find another Dunlop to match, and failed miserably, none available. Lots of research, and put a Yokohama blue earth on the back instead. Research will tell you it’s a premium budget I guess, but it’s characteristics for noise wet and breaking far outweigh the premium brands. When it’s time to replace, that is what I will choose, as Lexus still supply new vehicle with Yokohama Advan’s!

Been there, done that, a Lexus is a Lexus, had many brands over the years, I totally agree reliability is paramount, but dealer service commitment and attitude is also part of the Lexus experience. I came back to Lexus from Audi, and they are great cars( whilst under warranty) but dealers are dreadful. Reading some of the comments on here about theft of the RX4, there may be a case for educating owners, before the car gets nicked. Prior to the Lexus announcements, I have already put my own security measures in place. Not infallible, granted but did something proactive, albeit at a cost, for my peace of mind! Do we really think the current security moves are going to reduce insurance premiums, not a cat in hells chance!

I have said it before, and I say it again, Tracker is not the answer, and in the present times, it will make little or no difference. Is the Tracker that is being fitted, a Thatcham approved device, and I’m pretty sure, this will have no effect on RX4 insurance premiums. Years ago, Tracker was an excellent tool, not just to locate the vehicle, but also, when activated Police WOULD track the vehicle, and make arrests. Today, Tracker, will enable Police/ private companies, employed by vehicle insurers to locate the vehicle, but it will be abandoned (with canbus damage) the only positive is the return of the vehicle. Of course, if the vehicle is already in a container ready for shipping, Tracker won’t work! In conclusion, this is another sticking plaster, instead of addressing a permanent fix for the CANBUS issues

I’m just kicking tyres at this time. Has anyone had a towbar and electrics fitted to their vehicle. I know the favoured choice is at the time of order/ delivery, but I’m past that! I presume it would be a dealer fit, with lots of ££££££££ involved Are there any independent out there that are capable of this service. Does anyone tow a caravan, with their RX, and how does it perform. Food for thought 🤔

I am in exactly the same situation as yourself. It is certainly a consideration to just hand it back, which depends I would suggest on your final settlement figure. I tend to agree also, I think the RX5 is a super motor, but I just have this feeling that the bean counters have been at work for this model. My son has the RX5, and with the price increase to £71k, it makes my settlement for my RX4, more palatable. I have to ask, where else are you going to get a V6 petrol hybrid, with good mpg, reliability, and a 10 year warranty. When my time comes, it will be a difficult choice, but I am airing on the side of keeping it, unless the Labour government make it financially unviable.

SC430 For Sale lovely example
larryadler replied to hybridbatterysolutions's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
I must admit Alan, looks a lovely example. I have always wanted one, but had to settle for my MX5. I am afraid, like you mine comes out the garage when the sun shines, but I manage 1500 miles a year . I think the avaricious VEL at £735, will make this and other classics disappear. hope you get your price, best wishes. -
RX450h Insurance

I am afraid that this appears to be the erosion of the brand as we knew it. I too tried Lexus insurance in May, and they declined to quote me. The fact that they appear to use the Lexus name to trade, should cause concern with Lexus U.K., but I really think they are no longer the company they were. I have noticed that when I recently booked my service, on line, I made additional requests for work to be done. No one has replied. I attempted to phone Lexus Birmingham, but the calls are all diverted to Milton Keynes I believe, then they contact the dealer, and you become the piggy in the middle. Not good practice, and certainly not the service we had attracted to the brand in tge first place. So I am afraid the fact that they decline my insurance, sod em, there is always some one else who will welcome my business, but the other decisions may lead to many loyal customers looking elsewhere come time to renew their vehicle. Ps… avoid Audi, there dealers are poor! -

Now Phil, do you want a cheaper quote, or a quality policy? A lot appears to depend on where you live, I renewed mine in May, and did a lot or research into policies, and importantly the claims procedure. Remember, you get what you pay for! The cheaper policies through comparison sites like Marshmallow, Nutshell and Hedgehog, those insurers you’ve never heard of, so with no claims reviews, gave them a wide berth! Then we come to Brokers, One Call and Howdens seem to rate quite favourably, and the prices very competitive, but they use Lloyds backed companies to spread your risk between several insurers ie Highway,Sabre, ERS etc, which I suggest may delay any claim while the pull monies in the settle a claim. As you say, LV declined to renew, and Axa Aegeas, Aviva, declined to insure, and others, Direct Line £2555.00! The best policy was undoubtedly Tesco Gold, at £1064, but the claims procedure and customer service does not appear to match the quality of the policy. So in the end I plumbed for NFU at £1264, their reputation is a safer bet. A lot of prices I got came in at £1200 up to £2k+. Your RX is worth protecting, now, do you take the cheaper option or go for the No1.
