  1. People, read carefully this forum ;) The most typical problem of IS220D with more then 90.000 Km of age is the FAP or DPNR as u would to call. WHen it become to much dirty of particulate and the car cannot clean with regeneration.....it's aBIG problem if the car i out of warranty. It must be cleaned or substituted. other typical fault of car with same age is the circuit of EGR full of dirty carbonius deposit. In cars with over 150.000 Km the problem become very very hard to solve, because u should take off and clean all circuit (which is quite impossible). Better close this circuit when the car is young. All solutions for this problems are around here (look topic "elimination of egr circuit), and they function ;) Anyway this problems are common to all turbodiesel EURO4- Euro5 cars, no matter the brand. Look in other forums, and u will see the same oldie, well know problems. ...and finally the fantasy and honesty of some dealers...that invent expensive solutions to these problems...a minority of them naturally.
  2. They put their hands on your car, and after this u had the problem. So they need repair it for free. Naturally if the problem is connected to their work on engine. The car is in warranty period? If yes no problem, if no, go a normal mechanic, put the diagnosis in the OBD port, read the error and see where is the problem. Will be less expensive then in Lexus dealer.
  3. About pics i'll make them soon as possible, about prices, look here: http://www.emamotorsport.com/store/product.php?id_product=1080. I found this brand in the Opel GT forums, where some guys use them and are happy.
  4. Hello all. I've just installed on my IS220D a new D2 Front Big Brake Kit with 330 mm disks and 8 pot calipers, from EMA Motorsport in Milano (nice guy Emanuele and his troupe, thanks), the italian distributor. I'll have a period of 400 Km of break-in, then i'll post my impressions here, maybe should be interesting for someone.
  5. Do anyone tried a Hydrogen cells kit on this car to reduce consumptions?
  6. Hello all. I would open a topic to discuss seriously opportunities to increase power in this car, which should not be the usual stupid Chipbox or Sprintbooster. Examples: - Did anyone try water7methanol injection on this car? - Did anyone tried to install different and bigger turbo? - What about remapping? Actually seems impossible..someone has any news about this possibility? Thanks
  7. Ciao Paolo1. i answer u: 1. No because emulator provide for right signal to send to ECU; 2. Even if the ECU, after installing FAP emulator should try a periodic regeneration, it's not a problem, it's enough toke off fuel to the 5th injector, i told above different times; 3. No. Some people says around, but it's not demonstrated. I heard this about FIAT Coupe extreme elaboration turbos, where the exaust pipe is a completely free 7 cm internal diameter. Here don't worry, if u broke turbo u broke for other reasons, not this; 4. sorry but to post a photo of a normal piece of tube of 50 mm diameter is not interesting, and i don't have fotka.
  8. I could agree with u about THIS Lexus, which has a Toyota RAV4 turbodiesel engine, real Lexus have benzin motor and in general they are reliable (and so it was my previous IS200 benzin in example). Anyway: - all the problems u can experience on this Turbodiesel Euro 4 Toyota engine are more or less the same u can have on any other brand, the technology is not so different, and so problems, don't think BMW, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo don't have this problems, take a look in their forums and u will see ;) No cars break turbine like BMWs turbodiesel for example...and a broken turbine is a big expensive problem. - with some little works, Is220D become a rocket (mine actually has around 215 Cv at wheel, 48 Kgm torque) and gives great satisfactions (certainly u need to spend some other money...).
  9. For Paolo1: my car runs from around 1 year without DPNR and his Precat, and EGR closed with the system i described, and don't produce any kind of visible smoke, never. In january it passed a revision. In Italy it's every 2 years for a car of more then 4 years of age. For hotwheels: the system FONSERG/ULISSE function very well as i said above. The vapor oil line from the head of the motor, naturally is another thing to eliminate ;) All people in the world install a normal "oil catch can" and stop to recurculate these fukin vapors anywhere. The solution to let the vapors of oil into the EGR seems stupid. U will not send these dirties into the turbo, but u will send into the EGR. Stupid. Even if it function. About AIT sensor: FONSERG disconnected it at put a fixe resistor instead of reconnect into the turbo pipeline; i preferred to reconnect it in place and used a T piece to derivate the air line to send on the top of EGR. Ciao belli.
  10. go to a good mechanic (not Lexus)) and explain him the picture, he will do the job in 30 minutes ;)
  11. if u go in the thread "Blocking EGR valve" and look picture of how to do it and 2 photos, it will be very clear ;) - disconnect the original steel tube from engine to head of EGR and put it in garbage (take it for when u will sell the car); - install a rubber hydrauli tube from head of EGR to air intake tube where there is the AIT sensor (with a T piece u can avoid to disconnect the AIT electric connection as Fonserg did, better keep it connected); - put a close plate instead of the opened one at the start of EGR line. finish ) All these u can see in the picture i suggested above. Ciao
  12. U could solve definitely the problem, closing all the circuit of EGR as i and Fonserg did and explain around here in the forum.. Your car will run much better.
  13. As i supposed the problem of Robby was not connected to MAF or EGR. 1300 Pounds for a high pressure pump? )))) anyway i'm happy u solved your problem.
  14. DPNR circuit and EGR are conpletely separated phisically, but they interact for some ways. Example: gases goes into exaust manifold, and if they are more dirty, the DPNR will be more rapidly full of **** to regenerate. That's why, i suggest to people who wants to close EGR, to take off DPNR filter. The car will run much much more happy and clean.
  15. For a real upgrade, 2 choices: Mobil1 0W40 or Bardhal Technos C60 Polar with fullerene 5W30 or 5w40. I'm doing my 90.000 Km check up and i'll put the first.
  16. mmmm...from the synthoms u described here:"The car now isn't boosting properly (before the EGR was fitted),it starts to boost and then cuts off prematurely and just seems so flat"....they are typical of a westgate that open too early and don't let turbo boost to increase enough; MAF usually give other problems....anyway...let's see.
  17. hello. My Lexus has 91.000 Km and my friend mechanic checked all brakes and disks and said it's time to change front disks and brakes. I bought 2 front Apec disks in UK, like OEM part, and i'll install Roesch carbo-ceramic brakes. My mehcnaic says that on all cars he suggest this tandem: OEM with Roesch brakes, also on BMW or MErcedes, and all are very happy. I will tell u my opinion when i'll omunt them.
  18. Hello. My contribution to the topic. To lower this car is absolutely necessary, as it was for the old IS200 benzin. I did with EIBACH Prokit springs. The behaviour of the car is much much better in any sense to the stock suspensions. Lowering is 3 cm front and rear both. The car is much more driveable, and also much more confortable. I run it with aftermarket 18" wheels, except in winter when i use stock 17" wheels with winter tyres. About camber: not changeable, to do this u need to buy the complete EIBACH Kit, but to much expensive. Anyway the variation of this vertical angle is soo little that, in my opinion, not intelligent to spend that money.
  19. Hello. Connect boost problems to EGR is a big mistake, congratulation to that mechanic. The EGR circuit nothing has in common with air circuit and turbo,it's simply a local feedback circuit to recyrculate exaust gases around combustion chamber (another "intelligent" solution to contain pollutions). When one turbo car in general has problems with turbo spool up the first thing is to control the Westgate valve, and check if it function and open properly or not. Consider that big turbolag and dead response under 2000 rpm is typical of a stock is220d first generation (till 2007). To solve this problem i suggest u to mount a "Sprintbooster" (from "Boulekous Dynamic") i did on mine 2007 Lexus and the problem is SOLVED. If u run with this device off after 2 days that u are using it, the car seems simply broken )) Other problems connected to problem in spool up of turbo could be air circuit intasated, airbox dirty, manifold dirty (very possible if your car has many Km all done with EGR working in stock conditions). I suggest u to go to a "normal" good mechanic, exaplin him your problem, and ask him to check all turbo air cyrcuit, it will be not expensive, and u'll avoid to change for nothing other parts of the car at jewellery prices has it happen in a official carshop. Good luck
  20. Your car has 180000 Km, they are not little....so at first i could take a look to debimeter (also called MAF sensor) it's situated near the airbox. Some brands of car (i don't know about Lexus) suggest to check and eventually replace this delicated valve after 90000 Km; it's a very fragile incandescent metallic wire which read, and convert in electric signal for the ECU, the amount of air passing through it. It's very fragile. If it don't work properly it can send errate signals to ECU that should think to sprit more fuel to compensate the big amount of air that ECU suppose to pass....even if it's not passing throuhg MAF. After this, if nothing change i should consider hyphotesis to remove DPNR filter, close EGR, let the car run clean and without gas recyrculation, as i told u above. This is the final solution. Anyway in my personal experience with this car, everything could be OK, nothing broken, but the stock car is proned to have high consumptions...many owners of IS220D can confirm u this. Remember that DPNR filter presence is also connected with risks to destroy the motor for establishing mixes of fuel/oil due to faulty regeneration of filter in the basement of the engine. I suggest u to control very often oil level and see if it increase suddenly...bad signal. Let this car run clean, withot EGR and filter, is expensive operation...so depend on what u want to do with your car....if u want to keep it for some other years...or sell it...
  21. Sorry i didn t understand your question, can u repeat it? puoi dirmelo in italiano, se credi...
  22. Hello Paolo. Solutions: - IS220D model before Sport model (expecially 2006, 2007 models) has big turbolag and long gears, so very poor response under 2000 rpm: install a "Sprintbooster" (from "Boulekous Dynamics", easy and fast, money well spent) and the problem will be solved. After 1 day u run with it and shut it down, the car seems simply broken ;) - your car drinks a lot of fuel because has a 5th injector that sprit fresh fuel into exaust manifold, comanded from ECU, to make regeneration of DPNR filter and not only (periodic regenerations, sprit comanded from Lambda gauge, etc...). To solve this problem more complicated but possible: look in the topic "smoking diesel". NB: the funny thing in this turbodiesel is that more u take out power, less it consume fuel ;) if u install a chip tuning for example, u will increase power and decrease consumptions.
  23. anyway if u close EGR recyrculation of exaust gas, u will probably have soon problems with full dirty DPNR filter...so u will nede to take off it too.
  24. Please, look photos posted above from Fonserg, all is clear. U put a tube from the turbo after intercooler (near AIT sensor) and enter in the top of EGR with it. Then u simply take off original connection tube. U need to close with a plate the start of the line of recyrculation of gases on the other side of the engine, on the exaust manifold, or smoke will comes out from your bonnet )))
  25. Always same problems...smoking, oil consumption, big fuel consumption (5th injector sprit big amount of fuel directly in the exaust gas manifold and produce white smoke yess) etc, etc... Solution: take off FAP, install free exaust downpipe and Electronic emulator (or ECU will go in recovery), close fuel line to 5th injector. After this: no smoke, consumption of oil near zero, consumption of fuel: 10.2 l/100 Km before, 8.2 L/100 Km after. Around here in forum u can find the solution to close EGR using recyrculation of turbo and how to eliminate the vapor oil recyrculation using an oil catch can (thanks Fonserg from Russia). FAP don't clean atmosphere, it simply transform particulate in cancerogenic nanopowder. In Italy the TV transmission "Report" finally decided to start an action against this "intelligent" "ecologic" dispositive. P.S: In a Lexus carshop in Italy, the procedure to clean with acid spray a DPNR filter costs (to the poor owner) around 560.00 Euro. Good luck ;)
