  1. Hi thanks for that i have sent a PM to you.

Trying to get my head round how it works!

So if the clutch pedal isnt pressed the bearing spins and once the pedal is pressed the bearing stops turning as it is pushing against the preasure plate and it is still spinning once you select a gear and release the clutch pedal whilst driving

Alos what other parts will i need? exhaust gasket etc? how long will it take to do?

Thanks for all the help i dont want to go into it half cocked.

    Thanks

  2. Hello all,i wonder if you could give me some info please.

As a previous post about my clutch

When the car is in neutral with my foot of the clutch the release bearing sounds very dry and whines, when i put the clutch peddal to the floor it stops and all is quiet and ok.goes in gear ok and no other issues with the clutch etc.

I am going to buy a release bearing on its own and replace it,any idea where is the best place to buy one and at what cost?

Secondly do i have to take the clutch and preasure plate off to change it or is it attatched to the actuator fork in which case the clutch plate etc doesnt need to be touched.

    Thanks

  3. Hi there

I have decided to pull the gearbox out of the IS and fit a new release bearinbg on the clutch, does anybody know were i can get the section from re changing it etc out of a manual.

I have fitted clutches etc to other cars before but always find it best to have a quick read to be sure there is nothing to be carefull of.

Also i will do the gearbox oil change whilst it is out so what oil and amount do i need

    thanks

  4. How do you tell if the car is the Limited Edition model?

Mine is a 54 plate in Steel silver Full leather cream interior with electric seats,Silver inlays on the doors and dash etc,Headlamp washers,17 in multi spoke Lexus alloys in Graphite colour,Rear parking sencors.

I have seen others advertised with the same spec minus the rear parking sencors and they are Limited editions.

    Thanks

  5. I put £20 worth of BP standard fuel in today at 116.9 ltr and got 136.4 miles without trying really, the only thing i notice that i hate about the IS200 is if you show it a hill they are as flat as a kipper and hard work to drive unless you boot them to the top of the rev range.

Last time i had to change down 3 gears on a hill to overtake a truck from 40mph it was in a 1.8 petrol Freelander.

I would hate to think i lived in the Moors somewhere

  6. To be honest guy's i can get 32mpg all day long and i have had 38-40 on a trip from Leeds to Manchester on the M62.

Try doing this and see the diffrence, when cruising on a motorway or open road get to the desired speed and look at your mpg gauge on the dash, now back off the loud peddal a little bit and you will see the mpg gauge move considerably and you will still maintain the speed you were at.

I have just been camping in the North Yorkshire moors with 2 adults 2 kids and the boot rammed full of gear,to be honest the IS is shocking at climbing hills without booting it and changing gear alot and i still got 28-30mpg all the time.

  7. My IS has suddenly got a noisey release bearing on the clutch, sounds really dry,is there anyway to oil it? Sounds silly buy on a few cars they have had inspection plates on the bell housing and it would have been possible to get a drop of wd40 or something on it.

everything else works fine clutch gears etc just seams a bit drastic to pull the box out to replace it for the noise

    thanks

  8. Its strange how much variation there is in cars

Being a motor trader all my cars are for sale as is the Lexus and i never put more than £30 worth of petrol in at a time, reason being if somebody rang me now to come and see the car i don't want to be giving £80 worth of fuel away.

Today i put £20 in at Morrisons at 113.9 per litre and my low fuel light had just come on,i have been to Leeds city centre (stop start etc) and back through a roads to an auction etc and just checked the trip meter and it shows 121.5 miles and the fuel guage is still 2 marks above the E line.

I have to go out tonight to take my son to a football match which is about 60 miles round trip and bet i can do half of that before the light comes on.to be honest i don't drive that slow either 70-90 on the motorway and the speed limits everywhere else and every now and then the odd blast to overtake a row of cars etc,i find thrashing these cars isnt that rewarding anyway so stick it in six and cruise along.

Reason i am so interested is that everything you read about them and people you speak to suck through there teeth and say they drink fuel.

and i don't find that to be the case,i have had a number of Audi's/BMW 1.9 and 2ltr cars that have been worse.

  9. To be honest i think people who are getting bad fuel consumption have either a faulty car or a big heavy right foot!

I read all the reviews on the IS200 which said poor fuel etc and i think they are all written by Hugo faster!!!

I am a car dealer and have been running a 2004 54p IS200 se,i live in the country side and do about 1000 miles a week going to auctions and running the kids to football,Horse riding etc so alot of mixed driving and i am getting 32+mpg running around never worked out lower and recently i had a run to Manchester on the M62 70-80mph all the way and i worked it out at 38 mpg.

The car is no worse than any other of its type

In the last week i have put £40 worth of petrol in at £113.9 at Asda and i have done 250 miles and the light hasnt come on yet and it was on before i put it in for about 20 miles

Just interested as to what the average is amoungst you guy's

  11. Hello all

I am new to the forum and it looks great

I have just bought a 2004 54 plate IS200 SE with 66000 miles on the clock with full history, last serviced at 61000 miles

My problem is that when the car is stood still in neutral i can hear a whearing noise, when i push the cluth pedal down it stops and all is quiet and good.

All the gears sellect perfect and smooth on the move and the clutch is very light to operate, doesnt slip and only has a very small amount of judder if the revs are very low not that noticable really. However it does whine a little in all the gears

Any ideas? Thrust bearing noise?,will changing the oil cure the slight whine from the box?

    Thanks in advance
