Hi,
Does anyone know the factory wear limit for the Front Discs on a 07 LS460 SE-L?
Mine are badly lipped about one millimeter each side of the disc. I took the car back to the dealer who supplied the car who say they are within the wear limits and therefore do not require replacement, but they look bad to me.
Any ideas. Thanks

More detailed explanation here.
My car GS450h 2007 is one of the affected and i am extremely annoyed at my engine being stripped, head off, valves out etc.
Do not think this would make me rush out and buy another Lexus.
I'm not bothered about the work being done. What slightly bothers me is that Lexus has known about this issue for over 2 years. I think they've just hoped it would go away yet obviously it hasn't. What I dont quite understand is why this has come to a head now, unless it it just a case of Toyota wanting to get everything out there to start afresh. If you look on the clublexus site there has been quite a few cases of problems with the 4.3 litre V8 in the GS and LS particularly. My car does sometimes have a lumpy idle but drives smoothly otherwise. Better safe than sorry so I'm glad the work is being done.
I have had my 07 460SE-L just over two weeks. Would I have bought the car had I known of this problem with valve springs, no! Am I concerned that the engine will need a major strip down after only 25000 miles, yes! Will this affect resale value, very likely! Having just discussed this with a Lexus service manager who told me they have no experience of this level of repair work, the majority of their experience being routine servicing. Do I have confidence in Lexus mechanics having sufficient experience to do this remedial work, no!
How many cars which are currently running perfectly, will go in for remedial work only to be returned to customers with more problems than they went in with?
Lexus are planning to recall all cars worldwide a massive task considering the complexity of the work required. It is claimed that only a very small percentage of cars have been affected, non in the UK, why subject all cars to this expensive and invasive recall.
Why not make a statement to the effect that they will install a new engine to any car suffering engine damage as a result of valve spring failure if and when this occurs. For myself this would be preferable, I do not believe this is a safety issue but one of engine reliability.

Been to the dealer and it appears that my car has been fitted with a tinted film on the glass. I didn't realise this as I thought the tint was standard. However they have agreed to replace both the strip and film, so can't complain about that.
I would add that the film is plastic and therefore easily damaged and it cant be polished out with glass polish. Any one who has suffered this should check to see if their car has been previously fitted with this type of film. If you look carefully along the edge of the window you might be able to detect the edge of the film. This should be removable and a new film added to replace it, hopefully.

Hi All, Had my 460 two weeks now (its an 07). On a trip this weekend I lowered the front passenger window and when I raised it again I noticed vertical scratches on the glass. I immediately checked this, obviously thinking the scratches would be on the outside caused by some foreign object. It turned out they were on the inside of the glass and on investigation I found that the internal wiper strip at the base of the glass had been pulled down, I assume by the window on the down stroke i.e. folded over for a width of about 6 inches and stayed down when the window came back up. This was now very tight against the glass, what had actually scored the glass though I dont know. It would have to have been hard as the glass had a deep scratch from top to bottom like it had been scored with a glass cutter there are also more minor vertical scratches the full width of where the strip had been pulled down. I am going back to the dealer to see what they have to say. Obviously I want a new window and the fault rectifying. Like others in 50 years I have never experience this type of damage previously. I will let you know how I get on.
Disc Wear Limit
in Brakes & Suspension

Thanks, I was hoping to get the discs changed by the dealer as I have only just got the car. The discs are in good condition other than the depth of wear on them, a lot of wear for 25000 miles I think. They also produce a large amount of brake dust, the wheels quickly become dirty in a very short space of time. They work ok but feel a bit 'sticky' which is usually a result of the lip. Will probably have to grind it off or treat myself to new discs.
