  1. A salary sacrifice scheme is the best way to get a new EV if you can. No income tax (not just on the car but insurance and servicing etc), only 2% BIK and whilst there is no upside if used prices remain high, there is no downside if prices fall below predictions because the technology is moving fast.
  2. It's extremely rare for Toyota/Lexus to fit parts to cars and then just software lock them - normally even the wiring looms are different between models with options or not. An example is auto-fold. It relies on a specific controller that is only fitted with vehicles with memory seats - as it has a memory that keeps track of the state/positions.
  3. I don't know how sophisticated the charging circuitry is but AGM batteries typically need a slightly higher charging voltage so you could impact a flooded battery if the vehicle wasn't designed for it. Possibly the circuitry wasn't optimised for AGM in the first place and you would be ok but you would want to keep an eye on the electrolyte level.
  4. Powertrain relates the the engine/hybrid system - e.g. in power it revs higher and uses more battery assist. Chassis relates to the AVS and steering feel - e.g. in sport the suspension is firmer and the steering heavier. Climate rates to the amount of energy the AC system uses - e.g. in ECO it uses less but is also less effective. It is essentially the same parameter changes you get with the preset drive modes but the ability to alter as you wish. For example, the stiffer suspension is only in Sport+ preset where it also uses power mode for the hybrid system and normal AC, but you may wish to drive in ECO powertrain with normal AC and a stiff chassis.
  5. The price of a product has very little to do with the cost to manufacture unless it is highly commoditised.
  6. They are all pretty rubbish IMO. Do you have a tape player in the car to use a cassette adapter?
  7. It is the rumoured Lexus BX. A model below the UX (hence sub UX) that is seen as the CT replacement.
  8. Lexus seem to be using standard flooded batteries on all their new vehicles, we’ll certainly on the UX, ES and RX anyway.
  9. Yep, the last thing you want is to wait for change down when you put your foot down, build up revs into the power band only for it to then go beyond peak power, at which point it needs drop below peak power as it changes gear and keep repeating that through the gears. You want a CVT which will almost instantly get the engine at its peak power output and keep it there until you release the throttle pedal.
  10. Yes it would be terrible if true, but it isn't. Upgrades stay with the car, and you see some owners upset by this and wishing it moved with them to their new Tesla.
  11. ev-database.uk will give you accurate range figures. Their Highway - Cold Weather figure is tested under very harsh conditions which should be beaten. Alternatively check out abetterrouteplanner.com. The iPace gives EVs a bad name - inefficient, poor range, poor battery management and poor charging speeds. Modern EVs are much better than that.
  12. I believe that is achievable in a number of EVs, but is dependent on your definition of 'motorway speeds'. Stick to 70 mph is all is well, go at 80-90 mph like some people do on the motorway and then you struggle.
  13. That's a Powerwall 2 so 13.5 kW capacity.
  14. The only things I can think of is either the catch/handle need lubricating with some silicone spray so it properly engages, some padding has been applied to stop the lid rattling but is stopping the catch fully applying, or the rubber stoppers on the lid aren't fully pushed home. There are no real adjustments you can make. Other than loosening off the hinge screw and retightening them which may have a fraction of a mm play in it to level it better.
  15. Yeah sounds like a cheap/poorly designed LED bulb giving out RF interference in the 433 MHz frequency range which is blocking the signal from the key fob.
  16. something else to go wrong but I imagine they are very reliable and would be covered under Relax warranty for 10 years provided you get it serviced at Lexus. I personally don't think it is something worth going out of your way to find, but equally I wouldn't be put off either. From a weight point of view I doubt you could tell the difference, and any effect on acceleration would be more than offset by the extra speed you can carry through the corners because it doesn't roll so much.
  17. That's the easy one to find. More black interiors sold than the other colours.
  18. I had a bright red interior in my GS and found it somewhat of a novelty at first but that it became unnoticeable over time, not harsh. When I actually stepped back and noticed it I liked the fact that it was different to all the normal black interiors. If I had a choice at the time I wouldn't have chosen red, as I didn't purchase new and there were no others available there wasn't a choice, but I didn't regret it once purchased. The RX is a little different, but the red is much darker which probably suits the vehicle better (unless you are looking at the F Sport).
  19. You don't want to go too powerful otherwise you might overcharge the battery unless it has built in cutoff/float voltage.
  20. with the TTE what? Body kit, supercharger (IS200 only)? All very rare these days as the parts have been out of production for many years now and there weren't too many new vehicles sold with the styling kit fitted.
  21. It won't. The low centre of gravity that the battery pack creates cannot be replicated in the hybrid set up. But yes the 'extra spot welds' that every Lexus facelift has had in the last 20 years should help (I just wish they purposely didn't lower the number of welds in the first place just so they have an improvement in 3 years time).
  22. Do you mean the front flap or the whole compartment?
