  1. Not really, that is just a case of computer says no rather than a policy. No one really knows the full detail on this specific case, did they really get a free upgrade or where they just lucky and then the old owner misrepresented the facts when sold? All seems very petty though on Tesla's part.
  2. I agree, seems too high. Wait until the weather is a bit colder and you have some shorter journeys under your belt. Replacing the battery would have reset the engine/hybrid ECU so that can also explain some of the difference.
  3. It could be related to the ACIS which can open around 3,000 rpm. Check all your vacuum hoses as if you have a split between the ACIS VSV and the actuator you would introduce an air leak when it opens.
  4. Not really sure why you are quoting me. I'm aware the US uses a different rating system, hence why I stated 95 'RON' is the lowest grade that Lexus list for the UK vehicles - which is roughly the same as the US's 91 PON. As this is a UK forum if someone states 95 or 98 that it should be assumed they are RON figures. With the F engines this is more than just wanting to improve performance. Toyota documentation is inconsistent where some state 97 is minimum recommended but you can fall back to 95 for the occasional fill up and other documentation states 95 is fine all the time. Personally I found the engine runs fine on 95 when I used it, and couldn't really tell a difference when running on 98 - but you rarely get to use all 471 horses on the road anyway, so difficult to know how much top end power is lost. On economy, it's probably not a high priority for F owners. Again personally when I've tested it in other vehicles I always found an improvement (around 5%) but never met or exceeded the 10% premium they seem to charge for it in my area.
  5. No direct experience with that model, but looking at the reviews they seem average across the board. Given where you are located, have you considered all-season tyres - Michelin CrossClimate 2 for example?
  6. Agreed, but in terms of average high temp, the south isn't that similar to the south of the UK and max. temp ever recorded isn't that different either. There are hotter places like Dubai or parts of Australia where Toyota/Lexus are sold, and as you say they would be tested in more extremes than any market they are selling into.
  7. Tyres are always a massive compromise between cost/wear/grip/noise/comfort/economy. We would all love a tyre that is great at all those things but it isn't possible - for example wear and grip are normally the opposite of each other. What are you looking for?
  8. I'd hazard a guess that most UX owners wouldn't mod their vehicle, whether they slightly prefer the black look or not. I'd recommend wrap rather than painting so you can put it back to standard when you come to sell it.
  9. It would have been tested for far hotter climates than Japan (which isn't that much hotter than the UK).
  10. Sure it is. The amount of dirt that can be trapped before engine efficiency is affected is directly related to how big the filter is. It has been designed to last 4 years/40k miles in normal circumstances. However I agree with you that I'd be replacing your one - mine certainly don't look like that after 2 years (although I don't get near to the 20k miles limit). Replacing yearly is excessive, every two years should be a good compromise. WRT the cabin filter - cannot see clearly from the photos but the Toyota ones looks new(ish) - just not overly bleached. However I'm concerned that the cheaper filter has been used - I would expect the RX filter to be an active charcoal one.
  11. No, a Lexus dealer will supply a Toyota branded battery which is almost certainly a Yuasa. Yes, 5 minute job. Can't remember what needs resetting on the CT - maybe reinitialise the auto windows and you my lose the radio presents.
  12. On the 1.8 hybrid (Prius/Auris/CT) they seem to have always exclusively used Yuasa.
  13. 3rd party are fine but you ideally want an AGM battery and certainly one that can take a vent hose.
  14. Lexus has enough problems as it is with hybrid vehicles getting flat batteries without allowing for electrical systems such as heaters or aircon to be switched on remotely when not in 'Ready' mode.
  15. The air filters are designed with enough surface area to only need changing every 40k miles in a normal environment. I believe the pollen filter is meant to be changed every 2 years/20k miles. Normally it should be inspected every 2 years, so would be replaced (for additional cost) if it was needed. In an actual dusty environment you should be following the severe service schedule and the filter should be inspected every 1 year/10k miles.
  16. The air filter isn't changed at every full service. Only every 40k miles/4 years, although you should expect them to take it out and inspect/blow it out with an airline.
  17. Definitely try one of the Direct Line group of companies (Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege) - they historically have good prices for the GS F, although excess can be high.
  18. That is obviously untrue, otherwise the lights wouldn't be on as they signify a fault. Needs a better code reader to be used, one that can read all the systems rather than just standard engine codes.
  19. This is a difficult one. Most suspension manufactures state shocks should be replaced every 40k to 60k miles due to wear but virtually nobody does that - they wait for performance to be severely impacted. You should certainly consider doing the fronts if you don't go with OEM shock, or shocks that don't match OEM spec, otherwise you would have different damping characteristics front/rear. Also be careful with suspension parts from the US - their vehicles use different OEM parts as they are sometimes softer than European models, so again you would probably want to replace all four corners.
  20. It is a requirement for all new models (that have to go through (re)certification). The UX came out after and so all have that feature. Not sure if there is a time limit for all existing models to incorporate it, but the new RX would require it to be a standard feature as it would have gone through a recertification.
  21. Clicking on the picture and seeing odyssey.png on the new tab title is what gave it away for me 😅
  22. It doesn’t matter what jack the vehicle comes with, you should never just use it to work on a vehicle where your head will end up in the wheel arch (e.g. changing pads or painting callipers) or you are underneath. Jack and axle stands, or at a minimum two jacks.
  23. If the warning lights don’t go off after 3 trips then you have a current fault. You need to get the errors code from a fault reader to understand the problem as there are hundreds of reasons why the warning light can come on.
  24. Full differences between the series III grades:
  25. The A25 engine series is very different to the 2AR - completely different engine series which is more efficient (up to around 41% thermal efficiency for the hybrid variant). The hybrid system is significantly upgraded too, with a lighter/smaller motor and the ability to provide electric assistance at higher speeds. RWD of the IS does comprise efficiency somewhat but it's mainly the new engine and hybrid system that is making the difference.
