Tailgating cameras and how they work
ColinBarber replied to Linas.P's topic in Lexus General Discussions
whether you want to argue that speeding is ok or not isn't the topic for this thread but I'd say it is never safe to tailgate and therefore police should put cameras up where they are going to catch the most people. Which is why I guess they did the trial on a motorway??? -
Tailgating cameras and how they work

There is no cash cow because there is no direct law being broken and no fixed penalty in place. Maintaining distance is ‘should’ within the Highway Code, only ‘Must’ is law. As has been stated above by others, you would have to be taken to court for dangerous driving. The trial was more about increasing awareness by sending letters to offenders. As for the criteria, you aren’t going to be told that in the same way the police don’t tell you the exact speed a camera is set to trigger above the speed limit, otherwise people you abuse that fact. Obviously it will be under the recommended minimum distance as stated in the Highway Code. If motorists don’t drive within the law then they have no comeback if they are caught, and if you don’t like the law then complain to your MP to get the law changed rather than complain about the police applying the law. -
New NX price increase
ColinBarber replied to imgo's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
What spec do you have? The tax is based on the P11D list price figure which doesn't include the £55 registration fee or the initial £860 VED tax, so only the F Sport, Takumi and standard grade with Premium Plus and Pano roof were above £40k in 2020 (and the standard grade with Premium Plus if optional metallic paint was added). -
Tailgating cameras and how they work

That fact they caught 10,000 in two weeks and 26,000 over 2 months in just one spot on the M1 in Northamptonshire suggests it is more frequent than you suggest. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/caught-on-camera-10000-tailgaters-spotted-in-just-two-weeks I’m not sure they are still there as it was only a trial in 2020. I believe they were going to roll these out but COVID probably got in the way. The latest trials are cameras that can detect if you are wearing a seat belt or holding a mobile phone. https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/drivers-warned-mobile-phone-detection-25176681#comments-wrapper -
New NX price increase

Unfortunately that isn't the case now for any new NX purchase as they are all above the £40k threshold. -
Not aware of anyone attempting this. The screens are different between Europe and US - different part codes, so not sure if a US screen will work. The screen is linked to the nav/headunit - it needs to be aware of the screen resolution so even if you can get the screen working it may just be a 8" display in the middle of the screen, or distorted - but it isn't going to make use of the extra screen real estate such as split screen without the headunit also being replaced. Plus the wiring / connectors may be different. You certainly don't want to purchase a headunit from the US as they have different software, telematics, Sat radio and no DAB.

New NX price increase
ColinBarber replied to imgo's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Hi John. Everything remains as is from what I can see. For hybrids you have the standard 5 years/60k mile warranty on the battery and Relax up to 10 years. Plus the HHC gives you battery warranty up to 15 years: HYBRID BATTERY WARRANTY COVER AND HYBRID HEALTH CHECK (HHC) A Hybrid Health Check is included in all services for hybrid vehicles, where a technician will test the entire hybrid system and provide a written report. With each Hybrid Health Check, the customer will receive an extra 1 year or 10,000 mile (whichever comes sooner) hybrid battery warranty extension, until the vehicle is 15 years old. An annual Hybrid Health Check is free of charge as part of any Lexus Service. If a service isn’t due for a while, a standalone Hybrid Health Check is available for just 59 (sic) to offer peace of mind. It is the full EV batteries (UX300e in this case) that only can be covered for 10 years (8 years standard warranty plus 2 extra years with Lexus servicing (similar to Relax)). -

Comes with the territory unfortunately, most mechanical folding roofs have longer term issues but reports here are very low. Just make sure it operates smoothly. Other things to check are timing belt and water pump, front suspension/ball joint wear, paint/corrosion around the roof seals and exhaust.

isn't the part code different, based on what Chris provided here: either way they are very rare now. Have you looked at getting your damaged one repaired?

My GS F would happily cruise below 1800 rpm at a real 70 mph (not just indicated) in 8th gear 🙂 But yes I agree, the combination of CVT and Atkinson cycle engine creates the efficiency, the electric motor is there to compensate for the lack of torque from the Atkinson cycle engine when you need it. Then in town you have a sophisticated start/stop system to save fuel.

Factory coolant should be replaced at 100k/10 years and then every 50k miles/5 years thereafter so you are well past needing it replaced. Be careful getting the right coolant, S-LLC is pink not red (which is a much older Toyota coolant) and comes pre-mixed. The same coolant is used for the engine and inverter (S-LLC). You should do a full drain. Engine coolant capacity is 11.7 litres, and inverter 1.9 litres.

Thinking to buy RCF 2015
ColinBarber replied to Zmms0918's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
The car itself won't have an issue missing a service but that is a red flag that the owner hasn't looked after it, or has been maintaining it on the cheap. What tyres are on it, what brake disc/pads have been used etc. 60k miles requires new spark plugs which increases the service cost at that time, and coolant change at 10 years/100k miles. Other than that there isn't anything unexpected, just normal minor/major services (which will give you 12 month warranty free if you get it done at a Lexus dealer) and expensive road tax. -
Lexus RZ revealed
ColinBarber replied to talaipwros's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
You would need to discuss with your dealer. I suspect the £500 pre-order gets you on the waiting list but until you have 'ordered' the vehicle the price would be subject to change. -

Seems very cheap for that specification. -
I think the fixed price servicing comes with a clause about unforeseen issues. They probably wouldn’t charge you for the plug change if they didn’t do it but they aren’t going to risk stripping a thread and cover the cost of fixing the heads within the price of a service. I don’t recall anyone having this issue of a garage not being able to remove plugs - it isn’t a common issue. I’d recommend you speak with Lexus customer relations, given you have a vehicle that has been correctly maintained by Lexus dealers, and ask how they can resolve this issue for you.
-
It's time consuming - takes a Lexus dealer about 3 hours. Nothing they can't easily do and no reason to doubt they haven't done it previously. But given that they cannot undo one of the easy reach plugs it doesn't make sense for them to charge you 3 hours labour with the risk of nothing to show for it.

Welcome Glenn, looks very nice 👍

👍 Makes sense they are aligned to the Reading office - it would either be that or one of the London ones. -
I assume the plugs were changed at 60k miles? In the US the interval for these plugs is 100k miles so they should be good until you get to 160k miles and will probably go on for 200k+ so it probably isn't worth trying to get them out and risk stripping the threads on the heads. I don't understand why they are so stuck though - if they were fake plugs without the correct coating then I could understand it but not genuine denso plugs. There is very little room in the plug tubes, I doubt one would fit.
-
Are the plugs turning at all? Given that plugs are designed to create a gas tight seal, no liquid is getting passed. Penetrating oil will only help if the corrosion is on the outside of the seal or the plug turns enough to break the seal and allows the oil to get to the thread. Also only use very little oil. If you get the plug out it will run into the cylinder and you will hydrolock your engine if there is too much and you don’t turn over the engine with the plugs removed to blow it all out first.
