This is one area where the RC F and GS F are different. The RC F has auto high beam to turn off high beam if it detects an on-coming vehicle etc. The GS F has adaptive high beam / matrix headlights to allow high beam to be on and only shadow areas where needed. There are settings for AHB but they are all dealer/Techsteam options not available in-car AHB should only operate above 38 mph and will disengage if it detects too many cars ahead. Check you windscreen is clear in front of the camera. If you have had a new windscreen fitted then the system should be calibrated at the same time.

You don't need to worry about that with a series II IS as it isn't a target as Linas has stated and also from a technical point of view. It's only on more modern vehicles with CAN bus connected headlights that provide the opportunity to get at the wiring relatively easily from the wheel arch. Typically for a Toyota/Lexus that is something from 2016 (give or take a year or two depending on model refresh).

We don't know what the law will be in 2025 but based on the information outlined by the government this week, EVs will move to standard rate VED for year 2 onwards, so will pay exactly the same as combustion engine vehicles. It is only the first year that is based on emissions where they will pay less. Not really an issue as by that time a small financial incentive isn't going to be needed in persuading people to move to EVs - they are already moving that way for other reasons. The only thing that was a surprise was that existing EVs will also have to start paying VED from 2025. Normally VED rules aren't changed on existing cars just new ones purchased but this change is retrospective in that regard. Luxury tax (for list price of £40k and above) will also apply, but in this case it is only for new purchases from 2025 onward.

all they say at the moment is >250 miles as it hasn't gone through certification. -

Yes, the front motor gets around 90 bhp more than the Toyota but unlike adding extra cc to a petrol engine it doesn't really change efficiency unless you use that extra power, and on the WLTP test it won't. The motor may even be the same, just limited or with a smaller inverter on the Toyota - no extra details have emerged yet, and the wheel falling off saga has delayed things 3+ months. -

No because I don't believe the Lexus will be available in FWD, only AWD. 312 goes down to 286 on the Toyota and I expect the Lexus will be a little worse because it is likely to be heavier. -
Gsf potential sale
ColinBarber replied to Gsf grey solihull's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Obviously depends if you want to sell it 😉 I think that's not a bad price - you would probably struggle to get more privately, but no doubt they will try and sell it for £50k. Worth getting a valuation with WBAC just to see what they would offer and possibly try Motorway or Carwow as well. -
It should definitely do it if you come to a stop at a junction, once the petrol engine has gone through a warm up cycle. When driving the trick to get it to cut out more is to accelerate up to speed, come off the accelerator until the EV light comes on and then lightly press it again so you can maintain speed.

Yes. Certainly a dealer of some sort, even if not an official Lexus dealer. Very difficult for a private sale at the higher end of the market. People are nervous of a con with little comeback, need finance etc. etc.

Adaptive Suspension 18' RCF
ColinBarber replied to Jgtcracer's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
As stated near the bottom of that thread with the procedure, Lexus only require an initialisation if the suspension ECU is replaced. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to try - but you do need Techstream. -
Thinking of buying 2014 RCF
ColinBarber replied to LordByronUK's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
No, not in that way. It just learns what the car is doing at that moment in time and reacts accordingly. -

Yes, all good. The system reacts to what is happening to the car and tries to reduce body roll in corners, nose drive during braking, squat with acceleration and general jittering with uneven roads. It uses speed, acceleration, steering angle, yaw rate and if the brake pedal pressed to work out what is needed and to what level. If it is in anything other than Sport+ the amount of damping it allows is limited, on both extension and compression, whereas with Sport+ it will allow maximum but not the minimum amount to try and keep the car as flat as possible, so it will feel harder in Sport+. E.g. of the 30 levels, normal could be 0-20 and Sport+ 10-30 (just an example I don't know the actual values). But given it is a high performance car what it doesn't have is a soft and floaty mode. There is always a stiffness to it, both from adjustable damping and the fixed spring rates, and the system also doesn't really help over pot holes because it is a reactive system and the moment is over before it can react. -

Interesting how different people perceive this. There are only two settings, normal or sport so dropping into Eco doesn't soften things up. It is really stiff or really, really stiff. -
Canbus invasion - more "good" news for Lexus owners

Opening a can of worm there 😉 Whilst (incorrectly) referring to the LS400 as a MK1 to MK4, a Mark/series/generation increment is determined by model code and that didn't change 4 times within the timeframe of the 400 engine. Therefore: LS series 1 - UCF1x model code 1989-1992 (aka MK1) 1992-1994 facelift model (aka MK2) LS series 2 - UCF2x model code 1994-1997 (aka MK3) 1997-2000 facelift model (aka MKIV) LS series 3 - UCF3x model code 2000-2003 (LS MK5, or LS430 MK1?????? This nomenclature doesn't work). 2003-2006 facelift model etc. etc.

ByeBye Android Auto

The end devices don't have enough computing power, storage, battery life etc to perform full speech recognition. All they do is listen out for a few key words (which is why you are limited to what the trigger word/phase can be), and then send the rest to the cloud for processing. It is very easy to see that traffic being sent to the cloud with network sniffers and therefore these companies will get found out very quickly if that was happening (as was the case with LG and their TVs some years ago and they had to issue a firmware fix). -

The UX, along with other vehicles using the latest generation of Lexus hybrid system, doesn't cut the petrol engine out as much as the old models do. It tends to prefer assisting the petrol engine. So you will benefit even on short journeys once the engine has warmed up, you just may not realise because the EV light isn't coming on that much. At this time of year the petrol engine will run longer and harder to maintain coolant temperature to heat the cabin.

A standard generic reply, but to claim to not have heard of issues with any of their cars is a stretch as this forum was littered with people having 12v battery issues over Covid lockdowns which affects the hybrid vehicles more because they are fitted with smaller 12 v batteries than conventional vehicles. But the fact is the cars weren't being used as Lexus designed them. I do believe they haven't seen any 300e issues. There are only approx. 300 in the country so they have probably only seen a handful and if you were to purchase a new, expensive, vehicle then I'd assume it was going to be used a least a few times a week. But it has a small battery like the normal hybrids so isn't going to cope with long periods of no use combined with only short runs when it is being used.
