    People don't like this being said here but it is essentially the same car with different body panels, interior, extra sound proofing, minor suspension tweaks and has a few more quality checks performed during the build process. It is however much more expensive, comes with an inferior warranty and has servicing costs which are double for exactly the same thing. The drivetrain is the same.

    agreed, you just are unlikely to get a Lexus dealer to attempt a battery pack repair - they will just want to replace the complete unit. They should be able to perform a recalibration though on the understanding that they cannot guarantee the outcome will be successful.

    Water pump should be covered under warranty. Bushes are a bit more debatable as that could be considered wear and tear. The water pump doesn't have a replacement interval specified. It should be replaced if and when required. 90,000 miles on a hybrid could be a lot less than 90,000 on a standard petrol engine as the engine may not be running for quite a number of those miles and also not idling when stationary. When my timing belt was replaced at 100k miles the water pump was fine and didn't need replacing.

    agreed, you are just driving a 2.5 litre automatic petrol engined vehicle whilst also carrying a heavy battery pack

    The solution seems to be a little more involved: Step 1 - replace the £12,000 battery pack Step 2 - reprogram to prevent the battery from overheating itself again in the future.

    A lot of Toyota and Lexus dealers share the same workshop facilities. In theory the mechanics should have gone through the specific Lexus vehicle training before working on a vehicle. Lexus GB is just a marketing department within Toyota GB.

    £3k is quite a bit just for a better stereo, BSM, RCTA and a few trim upgrades. What did you test drive? You may not like the ride as much with 18" wheels, although you can specific a Premier with 17" if you want.

    86110-48210 is from a 400h rather than a 300/350. You would think there would just be software differences between the two but Toyota feel the need to two different part codes so I wouldn't take the risk unless you can return it if it doesn't work.

    there is a rubber gasket/seal on the back of the light cluster which seems to come unstuck and lets water in. Glue it back in place and you are good to go.

    you can always spend the extra £900 to upgrade the seats to ventilated with memory and driver lumbar adjustment which will be the same as the Premier.

    the only ODBII tool would be one compatible with, and used in conjunction with, Toyota's TechStream software. You can search on ebay etc. for illegal copies of the software and compatible readers - but you need to know what you are doing, otherwise you end up in the situation you are in now. If a main dealer cannot correct the issue then it doesn't look good, although they probably have never had to do that configuration in TechStream before. The alternative would be to purchase a secondhand nav unit - I'm guessing here because it depends where those settings are stored.

    that possibly is an electromagnetic (hidden) parking sensor.

    seems to be a common issue with the SC. Ideally you need to identify the source of the high drain, the stereo amp and a third party tracker are possibilities.

    they will only listen, not mechanically check. They never need adjusting either, unless something is very wrong. Exactly, I thought they were hydraulic? No. Not like some rubbish engine designs which end up having sticking hydraulic adjusters. It uses shims but as wear almost never happens, adjustment isn't required.

    rather than using the buttons and headlight switch to gain access you can try using the touch screen. To gain access to the first menu level you press the display button so the contract and brightness controls are overlaid and the press top left, bottom left three times - watch the following:

    Denso IK20 or VK20. IKs need to be changed every 30k miles, VKs last longer. As Denso are essentially a Toyota company I tend to stick with them over NGK or others.

    As you will see from your service manual, the European service schedule is different to the UK.

    Obviously Lexus aren't niche in the US, but in the UK they have remained at around 0.5% market share for the last 10 years. The current IS is selling a lot less than the older model at the same point in its lifecycle but the country is in a different economic state and Lexus now have a wider product range, with the CT, which is taking some sales away from the IS.

    Araldite is the most well known epoxy brand. Halfords, Homebase etc stock it. You will want to score the top and bottom surfaces and cover in glue, not just the edge, but even then it may not hold if there is any vertical load put on the joint.

    The only minor weakness on the series I is the transmission. Make sure everything is smooth and pull the dipstick to make sure the fluid is not dirty brown (it is unlikely to be nice and red because it doesn't get changed as part of the service schedule).

    I don't think there is anything special about the coupler but if you get the genuine part then you know it is the right size. Any Toyota or Lexus dealer should be able to get the part for you.
