The i pace has poor range, efficiency and charging speed compared to modern EVs of a similar price (Jag hasn't really updated it since launch). If you are doing regular long distances I'd consider something else, if not then it's fine (with a warranty).

There is more to it than that. The conceptual design is the same as for the GS430 or SC430 of the same era but these don't suffer this failure problem. There is something unique to the LS (and some Toyota trucks in the US) that causes this issue to be a weakness rather than the odd freak occurrence. Pipework design putting stress on the joint, vibration, different radiator supplier, bad manufacturing batch of radiators etc. The vehicle uses Toyota SLLC which initially only need changing after 10 years, then every 5 years. The service interval isn't the problem - any GS or SC that is being serviced by a Lexus dealership is using the same schedule and isn't suffering the same issue. LS owners have suffered failures when only authorised Lexus dealers have touched the vehicle and no plain water has been added to the cooling system.

Memory seats are directly linked to the drivers door ECU but that itself is connected to other ECUs via one of the communication buses. Similar for the sunroof. Worth checking all the fuses, not just the one specifically for the sunroof such as ECU-B No.1, ECU-B No.2, ECU-IG No.1, Door No.1, Door No.2, ECU-ACC. Also you may need to initialise the sunroof - With the ignition switch turned ON,keep the tilt-up or slide close switch pressed. This will enable the sliding roof ECU to start initialising and perform the tilt up, tilt down, open, and close operations of the sliding roof in sequence.

You may be right and it's my memory that is failing me. The current UX definitely doesn't have gas struts - it annoys me, not because I have to use a manual bonnet stay but that the clip that holds it in place is very stiff.
-
The original IS didn’t, nor the CT or the current UX but you would expect it on the higher end models.

Replacement side door trim
ColinBarber replied to Gill b's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
Looks like you have the optional side skirts on your UX - the silver pieces. Is it just that piece that is damaged or the black trim piece behind? If it is just the silver piece then I suspect only the full pack is available rather than the individual door piece but it is worth checking with your local dealer or swindon (Lexus parts direct). https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-ux-phase-1-side-skirts/ Those side skirts are bolted to the trim behind so you couldn't just remove those all round otherwise you would have unsightly holes showing 😞 -
Yes it is reasonable. I think the used market still has some way to fall but with the limited supply of new Lexus vehicles it does mean the nearly new ones currently hold their value.

The 245 figure was for 20" wheel models before the official figures came out, which increased it slightly to 252. If that moves to 285 then yes that is a substantial increase, but still an official figure rather than real world. They are reducing the top end buffer to extend the range but it means owners will experience the maximum range degrading slightly over time, but that still shouldn't drop below 90% of the as-new figure even though Lexus only provide a 70% warranty.

I think it's slightly unfair to compare against the RX. Whilst they may be of similar cost, the drivetrain is more expensive so there is less money invested in the interior. It also falls into the EV trap of assuming that people that want it must be eco-warriors that won't accept natural materials so the seats are synthetic, and depending on the grade recycled synthetics. The official range or actual? The official range is 272 on 18" wheels so not much of an improvement.
-
There isn't much running in on modern engines so any improvement is normally related to the driver becoming use to the vehicle and getting the most out of the hybrid drivetrain. It's on the motorway where the your economy will suffer most with the NX, but it is certainly an improvement over the previous generation.

Is200 dab radio
ColinBarber replied to Bobgosling's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I presume you mean IS220d rather than an IS200 from 1999-2004 so I've moved to the correct forum. There was an optional module to enable DAB. Not sure if it is still available but an alternative option may be better. Here is a previous discussion on the subject: -
Towing a EV or Hybrid
ColinBarber replied to WhiteHart's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Options for towing are covered in the owners manual. For an AWD NX the only real option is a flatbed recovery unless you are only towing a very short distance at low speeds in Neutral. -
Gen 4 GS450H - No AT temperature in TechStream
ColinBarber replied to daveh6's topic in Engine & Transmission
It should be under Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / T/M Oil Temperature and Line Pressure within TS -
Firmware/Software upgrades
ColinBarber replied to UX250h's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
Yes, this is my experience. They certainly don’t routinely apply ECU updates. If there is a TSB it still requires the owner to state they have the problem before they will apply it. -
Cleaning the hybrid fan motor and filter
ColinBarber replied to Jayw13702's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
There is a lot of over capacity so in a climate like the UK it isn't an issue for older cars with some efficiency lost (not aware of any battery failure as a result of this on these forums). The driver should know there is an issue long before it is an actual problem because you will hear the fans spinning faster and for longer than what you may be use to. It might only take 20 mins but that would add £80+ to a major service. Maybe they should do it every 60k/6 years as a compromise, but they should also be doing things such as lubricating brake pins etc which is a cause of actual problems that owners suffer. -
Correct, if you don’t have smart keyless entry you don’t need to worry about faraday pouches. CAN bus attacks are still possible though.

Lexus customer service being above the rest is now a myth, and certainly not what is was 10+ years ago. Having said that it is very much dealer dependent, even down to the individual you deal with. The cars are very reliable though, so you don’t actually interact with your dealer or Lexus head office very often. The service experience is very straightforward - the work is done and you pay the quoted price, no extra charges because of x number of problems found.
-
Wouldn’t be the first time a dealer was wrong. They would legally have to state it wasn’t all leather if it were the case. Part of the confusion is the two parts feel different - partly because one is perforated and one isn’t but I also believe the bolsters are more heavily lacquered for extra wear protection which gives it a less natural feel.
-
There hasn’t been a F Sport UX in the UK with that combination. Either fabric and Tahara (UK name for their fake leather) or full leather. The choice depends on the year and options pack.
-
Yes, the F Sport seats are leather.
-
Yes it should be covered. Makes no difference if it is Takumi or any other grade - the warranty is identical.

IS300h ICE acceleration whistles
ColinBarber replied to Modano's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
It's not the fuel grade, the IS300h runs perfectly on 95 RON. Could be high pressure fuel pump or rails, or hybrid inverter etc. I'd say it is nothing to worry about. -
Your laptop and phone charger have no knowledge of what power the mains supply they are plugged into can supply. They will try and pull the full power they need (up to 185 W - it doesn't matter what size mains inverter you purchase) - this will either trip out the mains inverter or damage it if it is rated at less than 185 W, or blow the fuse on the vehicle's power outlet socket. If you purchased a 160 W mains inverter and you tried to extract 160 W from it's output then the fuse would probably be ok. 160 W output equates to 180 W input (if it's a good one with 90% efficiency), which is 12.5 A if you are in Ready mode and the input voltage is 14.4 V. To make this simple, just don't use your 120 W phone charger, use a standard 20 W one in the car.
