  1. Interesting that they didn't say the new models aren't vulnerable to attack.
  2. as above 1] the 12 v aux battery isn't charged by the engine, it is charged by the vehicle's low voltage supply which is provided by the hybrid system when it is in Ready mode. That energy comes from the high voltage traction battery, regenerative brakes or petrol engine as determined by the system. It isn't something you need to worry about or can control. 2] the petrol engine is started from one of the electric motors within the hybrid system, powered from the high voltage traction battery. The 12 v aux battery only provides standby power for retaining memory settings, the alarm and door locking/unlocking, and powers up the vehicle's systems to allow it to get into Ready mode when the hybrid system takes over.
  3. They work, just not efficiently - it will heat your phone more than it should which isn't good for its battery.
  4. Just reinitialise the auto windows/sunroof by manually opening and continue to hold the button down for a couple of seconds and then same when closing - then the auto function will work. No problems with the radio.
  5. Dipped beams - all LS430s in the UK had HID headlights.
  6. I've not tried in the UX but typically if you have the AC off and you hit the front demist button it will temporarily turn on AC - worth trying this as it will reduce your need to use the touch screen.
  7. It would be illegal and therefore not for discussion on these forums. There are companies that offer the updates cheaper than Lexus directly. Toyotamaps.online for example - not sure how they get them so cheap but as Toyota hasn't shut down down I'll assume they are just selling illegal copies.
  8. I doubt it, both are MagSafe so the coils are in the same place on the 12 Pro Max and the 15 Pro Max so will probably be the same. If anything with the camera bump being larger, which lifts the phone further away from the charging pad, it could be worse.
  9. This. You cannot place all start up and R&D costs against initial cars sold. There would have been an investment and breakeven strategy which is probably still a number of years from being completed.
  10. Welcome Mike 🙂
  11. Obviously the fuses are there to protect the vehicle's wiring in case of a short and to protect against fire. Any bypass of a fuse link is potentially dangerous and if not done securely can lead to intermittent loss of power to some of the vehicle's systems. Also if a circuit that has a blown fuse is bridged to another one, you run the risk of overloading that circuit and blowing that fuse too. Ideally you need to establish the cause of the fault in the first place, although such a serious fault should be obvious and I doubt is still there. The most common cause of these main fuses blowing is someone changing the battery and getting the +ve and -ve terminals connected the wrong way round. The attached power source diagram might help figure out what is going on. PS.pdf
  12. I’ve three Noco charger that were used permanently over lockdown which kept the batteries healthy. One 1 amp and the other two 5 amp models. If you are just looking to keep a battery topped up then the small one is fine, but it would take a very long time to charge a flat battery. I did purchase one similar to above from Amazon but the voltage reading it was giving was 0.2v below the actual voltage I measured from the battery. Fine to charge a battery up but had the potential to overcharge if left connected so I returned it. Probably just a faulty unit but I didn’t take a chance and just got another Noco. Noco has a mode to charge a completely flat battery, unlike CTEK.
  13. Not without the key, well not unless you car has a fault.
  14. That's almost impossible with modern alarms and would only unlock the doors, you still need to defeat the immobiliser. Definitely happens but can also just be interference that stops it working. Always listen out of the door locks closing.
  15. Welcome Tony 🙂
  16. Unfortunately this sort of thing doesn't alter premiums as it only improves risk when the vehicle is at home, which obviously isn't always the case, and what if you forget to set the bollard. Typically the only thing that makes a difference is an approved tracker, although the reduction in premiums typically doesn't cover the annual subscription cost. These sort of measures are certainly worthwhile though in protecting your own property without the stress of claiming on your insurance and losing your excess.
  17. Carista is good and user friendly, just expensive if you keep the subscription going. Many people just use the free month with the dongle to set up customisations and then just subscribe for a month as and when you need to use it for fault finding.
  18. Ideally you should have the same tyres all around to avoid different handling characteristics. That advise is more strongly given with regards to runflats - replace all 4.
  19. Your options depend whether you have HID or LED headlights and what legal restrictions you have in your country. If you have HID headlights then as the light intensity degrades over time you could just replace the bulbs to restore them to how it came out of the factory - or possibly upgrade with ones that give a slightly higher output.
  20. Windscreen leaking, corroding the fuse box and making headlights turn on when the car was off has been reported several times here in the past. Normally this was from a poorly fitted replacement screen but given the age you may find original bonding starting to fail etc. The plastic membrane behind the passenger door card could be ripped and allow water into the cabin. If you have a sunroof then the drain pipe might be blocked or split which can leak into the passenger footwell:
  21. Even if you lost all vacuum assistance you would still easily have enough movement for the brake lights and starter to operate. INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY Stop the engine and firmly depress the brake pedal several times until no vacuum is left in the brake booster assembly. Depress the brake pedal until a slight resistance is felt. Measure the distance as shown in the illustration. Brake Pedal Free Play 1.0 to 6.0 mm (0.0394 to 0.236 in.) Both the pedal height and brake switch can be adjusted but would never need to be done once set up. It is worth looking at the brake pedal mechanism itself just to make sure nothing is fouling the pedal and everything looks correct.
  22. The hybrid system won't allow the engine to rev past 2,500 to 3,000 rpm when in Park by design - even in inspection mode it won't go past 3,000.
  23. To control the dimming of the glass (Electrochromic).
  24. Ouch, why are machine mart so expensive. https://www.halfords.com/tools/garage-workshop/axle-stands-trolley-jacks/halfords-advanced-1.5-tonne-aluminium-trolley-jack-539390.html and Gold members get a discount at Halfords too.
