  1. Well there's an 8 minutes video that didn't need to be more than 2. Not sure why he said the Lexus uses an LFP Battery - it doesn't.

Really Interesting John ..Now here,s a Thing... What would happen if The Car Started Emmitting Smoke with the Potential of Fire.. In That situation What could you possibly Do If The car Is in Complete Control..Very Dangerous Situation.....Lexus Needs to Address This And quickly.....IMHO

Not sure what Lexus could do in that situation - you don't want to be entering the vehicle if it is smoking so you wouldn't be able to stop charging even if Lexus add proper controls in the vehicle. Obviously the app should be able to stop charging remotely, but that relies on a mobile data signal which might not be available. The charger itself would soon notice an issue and trip out though if something serious happened.

Don't forget that in both GO tariffs the KWH rate outside the cheap hours is increased over the SVT rate by a %.

So worth moving other (washing machine , dishwasher) kWh to the cheap hours if you can manage it. Otherwise it might be cheaper on the SVT unless you use up all EV miles most days.

    Hope that makes sense.

Yes, which I why I say it may benefit. It all depends on your non vehicle usage, if you can benefit from the cheap overnight rate for water heating, clothes washing, dishwasher etc., and how much vehicle charging you actually expect to do.

It hasn't always been the case but currently there is very little difference in the day rate on Go vs other tariffs, and strangely Go is cheaper than some.

Worried that its the CPU, hoping it might be a sensor.

Potentially it is the clutch on the compressor that is physically stuck on, so even if the system is turned off electrically it will still be running. It would need to be diagnosed, measure the voltage at the clutch to see if it is being electrically switched off/on correctly - or with the car turned off just remove the drive belt and see if manually turning the pulley is also turning the compressor.

  4. Please don't duplicate posts - I've removed your other one on the same subject.

It's been a long time since I owned an IS200 but I believe they never really wiped the windows well, the glass seemed to move slightly away from the seal and you had to apply a bit of pressure on the glass as it went down to keep it pressed against the rubber (which only works on the driver's side). I may be wrong however that it is just that your rubber seals are worn or just aren't as flexible as they were when new.

I have Eris HV charger 7.0kw which isn’t on octopus approved charger , their chargers costing min £899 where I got mine fitted £499 got discount through work

we will speak to octopus see what they say but even if they don’t on our normal rate only costing £3.5 to charge which is still not that bad considering we were paying nearly £100 on fuel per month

You cannot get Intelligent Go then, but just the standard Go tariff may benefit you. The 4 hours cheap rate period is more than enough time to charge any PHEV including the 450h+.

Going to ring octopus see what they offer but seems they only offering this rate if you get wall box fitted from them or is it not that case ?

Octopus Go is available to anyone with a smart meter (which Octopus can install if required). To go on their EV tariff (Intelligent Octopus Go) you need either a supported charger or supported vehicle (not Lexus) so they can control charging times - it doesn’t need to be installed by them but they can offer that service.

My detached garage has a 6mm feed cable for double socket, door and one light.
Can I fit a Lexus charger on the garage or will it require the feed cable to be upgraded to 7.5mm?

It would depend on the length of the cable run and how it is fixed/contained. If the existing cable is 6mm SWA then you will probably be ok, if it's 6mm T&E then possibly not.

Whoever is doing the charging install would need to assess and redesign as appropriate as they are going to have to sign off the work as compliant with current regulations.

But your no better off paying 8 p off peak then 32 for the rest of the home ?

    I pay 21p all day ..?

That would depend on how much usage you can shift to the off-peak period (e.g. dishwasher, washing machine etc. delay start to overnight).

Octopus Go off-peak is only 4 hours (8.5p (four hours) / 24.5p) -  this is okay if you don't have a charger/car that supports Intelligent Octopus Go (7p (six hours) / 24.5p).

I'm not sure if a statement I made in my original post has been overlooked re. charging the hybrid battery with the engine running, but one of my big concerns, was over what my friend with the Lexus had been told to do by the dealer, and he did it while I was there.

Normally an owner doesn't have to concern themselves with the hybrid Battery. It is has a low self-discharge rate, is completely isolated when the vehicle is power off so nothing is consuming its energy, and the charge level indicator the driver sees in reality only represents about 60% of the total Battery capacity - there is a large buffer at the top and bottom end to protect the Battery and maintain performance even if the Battery degrades.

Once you are leaving the vehicle for 3+ months then you need to think about it. Using the method you describe will allow you to bring up the state of charge higher than the vehicle will normally do itself which gives you a few more months before you would need to repeat the procedure to charge it back up - but at that point you would want to start the engine to lubricate it, pump up the tyres, move the vehicle so you aren't creating permanent flat spots on the tyres etc.

The easiest solution where possibly is to put the vehicle into Ready mode every couple of months, let the engine start and once it stops then the hybrid Battery has enough charge to go another couple of months without issue.

The bigger issue is keeping the 12v Battery charged.

  10. Navigation was really the only factory option. You could get styling kit, wheels, parking sensors and illuminated door sill scuff plates as dealer fit accessories - all of those are nearly impossible to find now, but there was a big third part mod scene for the Altezza/IS200/IS300 back in the day, mainly from Japanese or American companies, and many of those parts are still available.

  11. 30 minutes ago, Linas.P said:

There are no circumstances where engine has started, ran for a bit, shut-off and battery is still not charged,

This is incorrect. The petrol engine running and the charge state of the 12v Battery are unconnected. The petrol engine runs to charge up the hybrid/traction Battery and will shut down as soon as it has sufficient charge (and the engine has reached a safe operating temperature).

The 12v Battery is charged by the hybrid system once in Ready mode. It charges at a relatively low current so, depending on state of charge, you would need 60+ minutes to charge it up.

I get the best mileage during short trips because the hybrid system is working so well.  There’s hundreds of hybrid taxis in Manchester and they do the same.  I’m getting over 60 on my run to work which split roughly evenly between rural hilly, motorway and stop start traffic.  I think it’s still improving with 2800 on it.

Short trips with a cold engine kill the mpg. Worse in the colder months when you need cabin heating, rear window defroster etc..

  13. If you were leaving a Lexus hybrid for six months I would firstly make sure the hybrid traction Battery did have at least 50% charge by using the method you described and either connect a trickle charger or just disconnect the 12v Battery. Otherwise you would need to put the vehicle into Ready mode for an hour each week just to let the car recharge the 12v Battery before it gets too flat.
