  1. That was with the series I IS. The current IS is too new to know if the standard settings are optimal or not.

  3. I guess it depends what you are use to driving. Normally the lower the profile of tyre the quicker they will wear, one because only the soft performance tyres are available in those sizes and two you tend to carry more speed into corners and so generate more wear.
  4. Yes it could be a plug or a fuel injector. Easiest would be to swap plugs around to see if the fault moves before going near the fuel injectors as you will need to replace the o-rings when you remove them otherwise you will probably get a leak. The fuel injector resistance should be between 13.4 and 14.2 ohms at 20 deg C, which you can check without having to remove them, however they can still leak or be partially blocked even if the coil resistance is fine so you cannot just rely on that test.
  5. They are excellent but being an ultra high performance tyre the one thing they aren't good at is wear. The compound is soft to achieve the grip levels.
  6. That is a bit of a generalisation as Bridgestone have dozens of different models, each with their pros/cons. Having said that the stock ones fitted to the IS F Sport aren't very good at anything, other than probably being cheap for Lexus to purchase in bulk. Dunlop Sport Maxx RT seem like a good all rounder, better on noise and economy compared to the OEMs but I've heard their weakness is wear. What pressure do run, sounds like they are a little soft to be wearing on both sides?
  7. Ultra blue is really nice. I don't like red interiors and they tend to lower the resale value too but I'm sure you will like it. Did you also get the upgraded seats?
  8. You cannot measure the resistance of the IS200 coil packs. They have a built in electronic igniter so you cannot measure the actual coil from the terminal connections. The only way to test according to the repair manual is to replace with another to see if that resolves the issue.
  9. A 'dumb' key has to have an immobiliser transponder in it and be programmed to the vehicle for the engine to start. If they are able to program that part I don't see why they cannot also program the central locking/alarm. There are procedures available to program the keys yourself, provided you have an existing master key (a black one, not a grey valet key that won't lock/unlock the glovebox).
  10. Hi Andy You do have to press and hold the button for about a second for it to work. Have you tried that or are you just pressing like the door lock/unlock buttons?
  11. Two benefits that I can think of: It cannot be knocked off (however unlikely) The oil will be in direct contact with the magnet so should be more effective than a magnetic field passing through the bolt.

  13. That used to be quite a common problem, normally due to a replacement windscreen not being sealed correctly. I guess the replacement companies figured out how to do it properly now so you don't hear as much about the issue. Symptoms are headlights staying on, hazard lights playing up, alarm issues and other problems too. Others have had to replace the fuse box which I think costs around £180 for the part.
  14. when you pump up your tyres just perform a system calibration, that way you have some range above/below your standard pressure.
  15. Left side I think - I may be wrong. I would expect it to be a rechargeable battery, either a sealed lead-acid or a NiCd.
  16. It's not too bad but that is just the belt change. That would normally be performed in conduction with a full service. They may also discover, or you decide, that the tensioner and/or water pump should be replaced. Given that your vehicle in a 2001 model your timing belt should have already been replaced 3 years ago, and won't need doing for another 7 years (or an extra 100k miles since it was last replaced).
  17. They miss non-essential items (hence the name I guess :) ). For example the interior pollen filter and they may use cheaper oil (but still within spec). They should be using genuine Toyota parts and performing all items listed on the service schedule. This is more than enough for third party warranties and probably a Lexus extended warranty but I'd want to get that confirmed before proceeding. Really it isn't much different from other manufacturers offering cheaper servicing on older vehicles. Some Lexus dealers will just perform the normal service at a cheaper labour rate and give a discount on parts. It is a way of maintaining revenue from older vehicles which otherwise would go to local garages or DIY. The cheaper extended Lexus warranty pricing does the same thing as that contains a clause stating that servicing must be carried out at an official Lexus dealership.

There seems to be some long term reliability issues with the GS450h which aren't seen on other Lexus vehicles and given the low numbers sold, the number of people reporting problems is quite alarming. I'm certainly recommending that people do not purchase Series III GS450h vehicles, especially without an extended Lexus warranty.

  20. I've been on this site for over 11 years, and I try to read every post across all forums, and in that time I've never heard of this across any Lexus model.
  21. I'd like to think they would solder, heat shrink, and waterproof the joints rather than using crimps - and ideally make the cut as it enters the cabin (if it does) rather than on the exterior. Seems odd that there is corrosion on these connectors, normally Toyota connection blocks are good at stopping that happening, and even if the exterior of the connect did get corroded the touching surfaces would normally remain clean. I wonder if these connections were disconnected when the other work was carried out?
