  1. Hi Roger This is very difficult to do. The switch gear and seat position ECU would be needed but also all the sensors fitted into the seat frames and mirrors to detect the positions - I'm not sure these can be retrofitted so you are talking about replacing the seats and mirrors and probably performing some wiring too.
  2. I don't know if the transponder is different, within the engine ECU a transponder serial number either gets marked as a master or a valet. A key unknown to the vehicle is essentially neither a master or a valet, it is a foreign key. To alter any configuration (add or delete a key) you must first have a known master key for the programming functions to work. Not just any key, but a key registered as a master within the ECU database. One of the programming functions is to delete all keys and re-add the ones you have. This is a good thing to do, it means key that are not in your possession will no longer work.
  3. It is certainly worth inspecting the engine mounts for any cracks/splits given the age of the vehicle.
  4. It could be that the headlights just aren't set correctly so when the levelling system thinks it is level they are pointing down. Did the car go through an MOT, that should have picked that up. If the lights aren't set correctly it normally points to some front end work having been done on the vehicle as it would be rare to come from the factory wrong.
  5. you should just be able to use Control+V to paste as text, if the URL has http etc at the start it should be converted automatically to a link once you post.
  6. Don't the headlights need to be on even for the manual wash button to work? Therefore if you remove the control signal it will never work.
  7. Have you looked underneath to see if the prop shaft is rotating when trying to move? Need to make sure the problem is with the transmission/engine rather than the rear diff.
  8. It is in the bonnet catch, it senses when the bonnet is fully closed. Not sure if the LS gives you a warning light on the dash when the bonnet is open? That is an easy way to make sure you have defeated it correctly by making sure the light goes out. Alternatively if you try and arm the alarm it may give you the open door warning beep.
  9. Most people do it the other way around with imported Harriers. They want to be seen in a Lexus rather than a Toyota as it is marketed as a higher luxury brand. It is like taking badges of an Audi A3 and replacing with VW Golf ones.
  10. yes this is the best way to do it although leaving for an hour is excessive, 10 minutes is sufficient. Most multimeters will only measure a maximum current of 10 Amps, and it is normally fused, so you only want to break the direct connection between the battery and the terminal once the ignition is off and without headlights on etc. If you get a high reading then repeat the test without locking the vehicle and arming the alarm, and turning off the interior door lights. Then you can open the door and pull fuses to see which circuit(s) are drawing all the current to narrow down where the problem is.
  11. Hi Alex. If the ECT button isn't working and isn't lighting up then it may just have been disconnected. Whilst the GS300 and GS430 has the same fundemental gearbox there are differences. The 430 transmission has a higher number of discs in the clutches and brakes, the gears are strengthened to handle the extra power and the solenoid valve is a different design, optimised to match the output characteristics of the engine. Whilst you will probably be okay the long term reliability may be questionable, especially if you like to use all the power of the engine.
  12. The AS200 and IS200 are the same however as the RS200 has a different engine and transmission the engine ECU and all its wiring are different. The body electrics are for the most part the same.
  13. It should work if it is just using the car speakers. You need a good fitter though. The GS has its own amp so they need to find the correct wires to use, after the existing amp. They also need to make sure they allow the Sat Nav to still take ownership of the driver door speaker for voice guidance ( which may be tricky because I think that occurs at line level before the in-built amp).
  14. sure it will, how would it know? Even if the system isn't fully asleep you shouldn't be seeing 1.25 Amps after a few minutes. For that age of vehicle you shouldn't really see more than 100 mA. Attached is the official Toyota training for batteries and testing - see pages 17 & 18. elec03.pdf Worth checking for surface discharge too. Depending on the battery design this can be quite high if the battery top becomes dirty or damp.
  15. Possibly with the mechanical side of things but the electronics is the issue. The ECU won't allow a new key to be programmed unless it detects a master key is present. The whole point is you give the valet key to somebody who will have access to your vehicle (a valet, mechanic, tyre fitter etc) safe in the knowledge that they won't be able to program a new key. From 2001 onwards it should be possible for a dealership to program an ECU on most vehicles without a master key. It requires tech stream software and a validation code is downloaded from Toyota. Before 2001 the engine ECU wasn't reprogrammable and it had to be replaced.
  16. Hi Colin. I assume your vehicle has the 6 speed transmission? It isn't easy become there is no dipstick so you have to get under the vehicle, remove the transmission cover, remove the refill plug and then check the level comes up to the bottom on the hole. The older 5 speed had a dipstick which you could use to check the level, and also use to syphon/refill the fluid.
  17. I guess that is somewhat dependant on when the dealership's financial year ends. However even if it doesn't follow the calendar year there is a good chance that is is at least an end of quarter so sales targets still need to be met :)
  18. For the battery issue you ideally need to measure the current draw from the battery once the vehicle has been left for a few minutes. If there is excessive drawn then the fuses should be pulled one by one to narrow down what is using the power.
  19. It does seems quite common that people don't use the parking brake very often on an auto or hybrid. The main problem is without use it seizes up, more of an issue in a couple of years when an MOT is due.
  20. There is still some air in the system then. As has been said, it can be difficult to get all the air out. The whole cooling system has a capacity of around 9 l on the GS430.
