  1. There is something very weird with the steering. At motorway speeds I can move the steering wheel very gently, about 1cm either way, which is normally enough to keep within a lane. If any more movement is required then resistance is felt on the wheel and you have to apply more pressure, at which point you oversteer and have to correct. The best way I can describe it is that it operates like the remote touch control where it uses force when trying to move off a button. Once you have overcome the resistance it doesn't occur again for a while. I'm not sure whether this occurs on purpose to help keep the vehicle in a straight line or something like the electric power steering is shutting down to improve economy.
  2. Many cars don't even have the warning though - it isn't a mandatory requirement
  3. I don't think I understand. How are you expecting the vehicle to know you want to leave the lights on or not? In every car I've owned you have to press a button or flick a switch - exactly the same in the IS, you move the light switch one position from auto to on.
  4. Yes it really should be Toyota T-IV or a direct replacement / OEM fluid. Do you know what they used?
  5. it doesn't appear to be fused. It is directly wired into body ECU No. 1 on two pins (PWR and SNOW) with a third pin (white and black wire) going to ground.
  6. normally two sensors on top of the dash are auto lights and solar sensor for the A/C
  7. I don't know but I would image the battery was disconnected for the trip across the ocean.
  8. Not compared to a GS though, the GS should definitely feels slower based on refinement and a higher level of disengagement from the road. The GS is pretty quick off the line and at low speeds. It essentially has a 2 speed transmission together with the CVT so when it is in the low gear the acceleration is impressive for the amount of power it has available.
  9. Sorry about your bad luck Chris. I wouldn't worry about Autoglass not finding the 400h listed, probably use error as the vehicle is sometimes listed as RX400h and at other times as RX 400h, or they only start listing it as a 2006 vehicle and they used 2005 in their search. There are around 11,000 400h on the roads so plenty to justify Pilkington or whoever to still make the glass. As they said, glass from the RX300/350 is the same.
  10. No subscription. The basic updates are received via the radio, essentially RDS data. The data comes from haulage companies and breakdown vans etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_message_channel#United_Kingdom
  11. The transmissions are somewhat self-learning so you may find it gets a little smoother / less responsive depending on your driving style. Give it another week or two.
  12. Yes. I'm sure one or two have failed, as is possible with any component, but it certainly isn't a common issue with the facelift models.
  13. They can, but they just do all the tasks badly. As well as the bad driving I'm sure the text message she was sending was also illegible.
  14. If you have the cash available then you need to consider what you are able to do with that money. Earning 1% interest in a savings account, and then paying tax on that interest, isn't great when you are paying out 6% interest on a lease. If you get a good offer with dealer and Lexus contributions then it makes the deal more attractive, especially if you cancel straight away however as others have said it seems the contributions can be withdrawn if you cancel within a certain timeframe.
  15. Welcome :) Enjoy the return trip.
  16. double sided fixing tape at the ends together with the screws should solve the issue. This seems to be a common installation issue but normally you only hear a rattle with closing the boot.
  17. The current circuit of the meter should have been fused so you would need to replace that blown fuse. The voltage part of the meter may still work.
  18. are you sure you had the leads in the voltage sockets on the meter and not current?
  19. You find people compare the 450h to a low powered manual transmission diesel which obviously isn't fair. Compared to a 4 litre automatic it does well, especially around town.
  20. They don't rattle off the forecourt because the amount of play is very minimum and only a small amount of grease together with the bushing and seals stops any noise. Have you replaced the rubber seals? Maybe that are worn and allow too much play at the point of entry. Normally this type of rattling is movement in the pads by not having all the clips in place but it does seem to be the calliper on your case as the noise goes when you re-grease the pins.
  21. not sure if this helps but the following is the parts diagram: http://parts.autonationtoyotasouthaustin.com/auto-parts/1999/lexus/ls400/base-trim/4-0l-v8-gas-engine/electrical-cat/battery-scat
  22. The part is used on a number of Toyota vehicles as well as Lexus (Starlet for example) so you can obtain via a standard Toyota dealer which will probably be cheaper than via a Lexus dealer.
