  1. wheels can make a big difference to mpg. Normally people tend to go wider along with bigger wheels so you have more weight and more rolling resistance. Moving from 17" to 18" on my old GS430 made around 2 to 3 mpg difference (getting on for 10%). The current IS300h official figures show a 4 mpg difference in 17" to 18" (7%).
  2. You need to be a gold member to advertise on these forums, including just mentioning you are thinking about selling.
  3. They shouldn't need to be Lexus ones, but I don't know what frequencies the channels operate at to be able to recommend something. I suspect most of these systems all operate on the same frequencies and given that the original 2005-2006 system seems to be a rebadged Veba unit the following may work: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veba-AVHEAD2IR-Infrared-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B004PY9WFQ The following seem to be the original headphones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Lexus-Headphones-for-in-car-DVD-/291503814448?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43defb3730
  4. I guess your only choices are to either relocate the camera or relocated the DAB aerial.
  5. Thank you for the recommendation. And do you think a car of that age, if well looked after will be reliable and provide up to 5 + years service? It seems from what I hear and read the RX can take high mileage and that one should not be put off of cars that are 7 + years old. What trim engine on the RX400 would you recommend? Thanks It should last. The underside of the RX can start to corrode so I'd recommend it is treated before that starts to happen, really the only problem you would get is wear to the suspension, bushings etc. Plenty of high mileage examples exists with no issues to the engine or hybrid system. As for trim level that is really a personal choice. The SE is a good level and the Nav options gives you the reversing camera which is also useful.
  6. Then you have a bit of a problem as that is the only way the audio works, the system isn't connected to the vehicle's audio system. Do you have the four LEDs on the B pillars? Those are the infrared audio outputs that the headphones use.
  7. Not advisable to replace the fluid without the correct diagnostic equipment to activate each corner in turn otherwise you could end up with spongy brakes and a warning light that will need to be reset.
  8. If you want a 400h from a Lexus dealer this will give you an indication on age/mileage for your budget http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-RX/RX-400h/3.3-SE/Exeter/1686940-605105873-1607082.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_
  9. Are the headphones switched on and set to the correct audio channel?
  10. Error 4 is a loading mechanism error. A disc is normally stuck because of a sticky label or low quality recordable discs which are too thick. Try turning the vehicle off/on a few times, sometimes it will eventually eject.
  11. The ignition needs to be on, then you push and slide the door open/eject button.
  12. I don't think you need to remove the tray. There is a cover which unclips and once removed gives you access to the front of the drive.
  13. It is really only used for going down steep hills, especially when towing. It avoids overheating the brakes it you are constantly on them to stop the car accelerating away from you. Shift lock is when the battery is flat and you need to move out of park and into neutral to move the vehicle. There is an electric solenoid which activates when you press the brake pedal to allow the gear lever to move out of park (a safety feature to make sure you have your foot on the brake when you select a gear). If your battery was flat then the solenoid wouldn't be able to operate.
  14. What????? That is just scaremongering. How do you as a driver control whether the engine is on or not when the batteries become low? The hybrid system controls battery state itself. Long before the batteries are in a critical state the system will shut down. You know when the engine is running from the energy screens or the EV light in the CT. The CT engine also isn't that refined so you know when it is running or not. From some of the comments in this thread it seems there is a complete lack of understand how the Toyota hybrid systems work, not that you need to know as a driver. You just drive it, you don't have to worry about whether the engine is running or not, if the batteries have high or low charge, or what rpm the engine is running at.
  15. I suspect the amber light is for the passenger air bag? Lexus feel is necessary to inform you at all times whether the passenger airbag is enabled or disabled, in case you suddenly forget that you shouldn't have a baby seat in the front with the airbag enabled. Unfortunately Lexus subscribe to the Nanny state mentality and don't let you turn off those warning
  16. Moved :) Yes the easiest way is to move to smaller wheels. I've found the loan cars on 17" wheels to ride very well, even the Premier on 18" isn't hard. What tyre pressure do you normally set?
  17. Sounds like the boot release switch is faulty, it is quite easy to replace but worth diagnosing properly first.
  18. It seems that the NX has been compromised heavily to meet certain CO2 emissions, just for the benefit of company car drivers.
  19. I suspect it is a problem with either the release bearing/clutch or the flywheel (DMF)
  20. you can use it all the time but it isn't recommended. It will give you worse economy as the extra load isn't just from generators, it will turn over the petrol engine, without injecting fuel or sparking the plugs, which is just wasting energy. The function has been incorrectly explained by many Toyota and Lexus sales people as a way to recharge batteries faster - this is incorrect and not what it is designed to do.
  21. They certainly should pass an MOT. Personally I don't like to get recommendations from tyre companies, they are likely to recommend ones that make them the most margin. There are people here who are very happy with Michelin, personally I've tried them several times over the years and never been happy with any of them but I didn't try the model you are suggesting on an RX so cannot really give an opinion either way.
  22. I had a black interior on my 400h so cannot really comment, although my old GS430 had a grey interior and never suffered from this.
  23. This was available in Japan and hence some of the Toyota Celsior imports will have this. The UK vehicles were not fitted with this.
