  1. I used to receive text messages from my iPhone but that stopped with one of the updates. This too isn't officially supported, not sure if Lexus purposely stopped non-support phones from working or just a bug they introduced.
  2. One of our members was experiencing audio drop outs for several seconds which turned out to be a poor connection on one of the audio units (head unit, amp, nav etc). This seems like a similar issue. If it takes that long to start working then your dealer should be able to diagnose the issue quite easily.
  3. Welcome :) You got two years warranty for £250, that is a good deal.
  4. Many warranties have a maximum payout which is probably what is in play here otherwise the item is either covered or it isn't. Personally I would have just purchased a unit from a breakers. Giving Lexus £4000 for a part that probably only costs a few hundred pounds to manufacture doesn't seem right. I'd also be contacting Lexus and getting them to inspect it to see if it should have been in the recall. Has your dealer offered any explanation why it has failed so soon after they performed work on that part of the vehicle?
  5. People like the Gen II RX. It is arguable better looking than the Gen III and some people want the petrol engine / auto transmission option. The biggest factor was probably the price hike that came along with the Gen III. Lexus went from selling over 4,000 RXs per year during the prime years of the Gen II to around 2,000 per year for the current RX, except for 3,000 during the initial launch year. I don't think they have deliberately made the costs high on their older vehicles. The parts where always priced high, essentially associated with the list price of the vehicle and servicing costs have gone up across the whole range and whether the vehicle is new or old. From what we are hearing the new RX is going to be another jump in cost, probably too much for many existing Gen II owners to afford and the vehicle itself is going to be bigger again. For Gen I and possibly Gen II owners the equivalent current vehicle is the NX, not the RX.
  6. It seems with the RX350 Lexus reverted back to using a viscous coupling centre diff, as with the series I RX. The series II RX300 just relies on applying the brakes to individual corners to stop a spinning wheel.
  7. Lexus service pricing has become stupidly expensive. The following shows what they should be doing - this replaces what may be listed in your service book: http://www.lexus.co.uk/img/Lexus-Service-Checklists_tcm880-1321794.pdf For your age of vehicle you can use essentials servicing which should reduce the price from £275 to £179. The work carried out is as follows: http://www.lexus.co.uk/img/Lexus-Essential-Care-Service-Content-1014_tcm880-1323585.pdf
  8. The RX isn't going to be as quite as an LS, the tyres and the shape of the vehicle see to that, however it seems do you have an issue which very much seems like a wheel issue. That may be balancing, alignment or a defective tyre/wheel. Hopefully it is easily resolved once you visit your local tyre fitters. Uneven wear isn't a normal issue with the RX so you certainly want a full alignment check.
  9. Whilst most things are possible this is much more difficult that with the series I IS where there the switch directly controls the relay. With the series II the switch signal is fed into an ECU which controls the fog light relay based on the switch position and other factors including the state of the headlights.
  10. There have always been complaints, and you will always see a negative stance on an Internet forum where owners typically come to vent frustration but I do believe it is getting worse. Even Lexus GB themselves don't provide a very good customer experience whenever you need their assistance.
  11. Complete opposite I'd say. You get a good product and excellent support with Apple, not with Lexus dealers. Apple doesn't force anybody to upgrade. Your system continues to work the same as the day you purchased it. If you want to use the latest software you have to keep the hardware up to date, that way the complete system doesn't have years and years of legacy code in it weighing it down like Windows. The difference with Apple is that they use child labour, have measures to prevent suicide within the vast workforce, treat their staff like dogs, pay them a pittance and cover it all up with glossy, glittery shops with lots of young trendy people with very white teeth. So it's a shame the excellent support doesn't exist within the factory. Do you know that for a fact or have you just been reading poorly researched pieces from the media, specifically mentioning Apple to drive traffic to their piece? Considering Apply don't employ factory workers, other than a few in the US manufacturing the Mac Pro, it is going to be a bit difficult for them to carry out the claims mentioned. If you are talking about the sub-contractors that actually manufacture the products then they use the same companies as pretty much every other PC manufacturer, exception being that Apple actually investigate working conditions and pressure those companies to improve conditions.
  12. Lexus marketshare is around 0.5% in the UK and have been for the last couple of years. Before then it was low, down to 0.3% but 2006 - 2007 were the best years with around 0.7% marketshare so I don't think it is the case there are more on the roads. Quality from Lexus dealers has certainly dropped over the years though.
  13. Complete opposite I'd say. You get a good product and excellent support with Apple, not with Lexus dealers. Apple doesn't force anybody to upgrade. 14. It is simply just a lack of vehicle sold with that nav system which then directly relates to the number of used discs that become available on eBay. You will not get full post code entry with the latest update.
  15. There is a 30 day exchange programme with the same dealer, not a returns policy.
  16. Historically on other Lexus vehicles the sat nav also gives you the reversing camera. The NX has this as standard so it is very difficult to justify the cost of the, poor, Lexus nav system. Personally I wouldn't bother with a TomTom either, just use a smart phone app - get a Brodit holder for the phone.
  17. If you are just doing short in town journeys then you are going to be down in the low 20s.
  18. The oct 2000 facelift Nav changed from CD with a 4:3 ratio screen to a DVD wide 16:9 widescreen system.
  19. I think some editing of this thread is needed. Somebody looking for NX mpg information is going to have to wade through pages of irrelevance
  20. I'm glad to say most, if not all, Lexus vehicle are silent when arming/disarming the security system. It may be a dealer configurable option on some models - not really sure why you would want this, you can hear the door locks and see the indicators.
  21. The factory load will probably be out of date, just make sure you mention to your dealer to load the very latest software before handover.
  22. You feel the issue and well as hear it. At this stage it looks like the fix is going through testing with real customer so it is unlikely to have been put into production.
  23. I'm the same as you Darren. It happens on slight inclines, mainly around 50 mph through roadworks. Clearly some cars are worse than others. Not sure if I want the hassle of getting it sorted out, my vehicle seems to always come back in a worse state after a dealer visit.
