  1. “Tesla has taken a number of different measures to address the effects of all six vulnerabilities reported by [the researchers],” a Tesla spokeswoman told WIRED in an email. “In particular, the path that the team used to achieve root (superuser) privileges on the infotainment system has been closed off at several different points.” She also noted that the effects of some other vulnerabilities have been mitigated. “In particular, the browser has been further isolated from the rest of the infotainment system using several different layered methods.”
  2. I think the initial Red factory fill lasts 4 to 5 years, but then needs to be changed every 2 to 3 years according to the service schedule - I'm sure it actual lasts longer than that though.
  3. Red is long life coolant and needs replacing every 2 years, pink is super long life and is replaced every 5 years (after the initial 10 year factory fill). I think a 2003 RX uses Red, check your service schedule and typically there is a sticker to indicate extra long life coolant is used. Toyota red coolant sometimes needs to be diluted with demineralised water, typically it is pre-mixed for supply in the UK.
  4. I'd expect the shock to be around £150 to £200 from Lexus plus fitting. They wouldn't swap out the complete strut so extra labour to remove the spring etc plus they would probably insist on checking the wheel alignment. All in all probably around £400.
  5. There does have to be a large leak, almost dripping, for an MOT failure. A damp patch should just be an advisory. Out of interest, how much did the breakers charge you for the strut?
  6. The different is Chrysler, and the rest of the established brands, don't have a clue about security. Researchers have already taken control of Prius systems, albeit with the need for initial physical access, and the Lexus Smart Access is easy to bypass etc. Tesla have some well known security researchers now working for them, and the hackers noted that the security system in the Tesla vehicles is well designed. The OTA update hasn't been compromised, only signed code can be installed.
  7. I've heard of a few occasions where only the front three plugs have been changed. The rear ones are a real pain to get to, no special tools needed just time which people unfamiliar with the vehicle will underestimate.
  8. Hi, it is on the VIN plate. It is the C/TR part. http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/repair/lexus-color-code.html
  9. The IS200 is the same, wired in parallel to the main rear light cluster at a junction connector in the left hand side quarter panel. There is no separate fuse.
  10. I believe the series I RX plug schedule is every 60k miles therefore they wouldn't need doing until 120k miles. Seems Lexus were correct and the independent wrong.
  11. Telsa issued an update the day the hack was announced. They are able to remotely upgrade all the vehicles.
  12. Which model was it? 85, 85D, P85D or a P85D with ludicrous mode enabled? Once they get supercharge stations at motorway service stations then it becomes a good option. Something like 170 miles range in a 30 minute charge.
  13. Yes you can adjust the height whilst driving. In high mode it will automatically go back to normal once speed goes over a certain speed - I think this is a lower speed than with the LS, something around 20 mph. You can select low mode at any time or the vehicle will automatically go into low mode once your speed is above 60 mph.

  15. 04493-30280 is the part code for the master cylinder kit. Should be around £90 from your dealer. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_1998_LEXUS_GS300%7E430_JZS160R-BEAQFW_4702.html
  16. Do you mean Sport or manual S mode? If S mode you can control the revs to avoid 1300 rpm.
  17. IMO larger vehicles suit darker colours. I think the IS just about gets away with white, but best left to the CT.
  18. The transmission is really the only weak point on the series I RX. You really need to change the fluid frequently.
  19. No, the 28 mph limit is just for the manual EV mode. The vehicle can turn off the engine in normal running at speeds up to around 50 mph (more so in Eco mode). One way to increase mpg on a 40 mph road for example is to accelerate up to 40 mph, lift off to invoke auto EV mode and then apply the throttle again very lightly to maintain the speed. You can run for a good mile or two in electric only at 40 mph depending on the initial battery charge.
  20. Nice, you got a good deal and a car is kept on the road rather than an unnecessarily scraped.
  21. Did you expect anything else from the GS F interior? The RC F just has an IS interior, the old IS F had a Gen II IS interior.
  22. I'd say it won't be easy. In 2001 the IS had a major facelift, one changing being the Sat Nav. It went from a CD based system using a 4:3 screen to a DVD based system with a 16:9 widescreen - all of the components are completely different.
