  1. The MAP sensor isn't part of the throttle body. It is located next to the throttle body on the right hand side of the intake manifold and has a short pipe connecting to the manifold where it gets the pressure reading from. You should be able to see/replace it by just removing the intake and air filter assembly.
  2. The RC 200t is coming, the 2.0l turbo will also be used in the IS, RX and NX. It is the GS 200t that isn't being brought to the UK.
  3. yes, and a little bit more induction noise (if you consider that a benefit).
  4. The defeat device also reduced CO2 at the time of testing. This is why the vehicles may now end up in a higher tax bracket.
  5. The government confirmed today that any reclassification of VAG vehicles won't result in customers having to pay more tax. What they should be doing is calculating the additional tax for the next 10 years on all the vehicles and then fining VAG for that amount, tripled as the wilfully deceived, and use that money to offset the extra emissions by reducing congestion.
  6. no extra power, the stock filter isn't restrictive. You may get a little bit more induction noise, which some people like, and you can potentially save some money over the long term by washing and oiling a K&N filter rather than replacing the OEM filter over and over.
  7. Welcome :) The CT has a CVT transmission and therefore engine speed isn't related to road speed, it is related to power output required at any given moment. Therefore on a downhill section the engine would probably be around 1,200 rpm but on a hill it could go to 3,500 rpm to maintain 70 mph.
  8. Why do you say that? There are plenty of Prius vehicles out there with over 200k miles on the original battery, including one with over 600k miles.
  9. An American SmartCard or standard key won't work on Euro/UK vehicles as they use a different frequency. If an IS/RX/LS smart entry key can work with the CT then so will a SmartCard, I don't know if the CT uses a different entry system but I doubt it.
  10. Make sure there is no corrosion on the disc surfaces, this happens when your calliper is seized which results in part of the disc never coming into contact with the pad to keep it clean and rust free. This typically results in a grinding noise. To resolve you would need the disc surface to be skimmed or the disc replaced. The following is an example, the inside half of the disc is corroded and will result in a grinding noise when you apply the brakes and the pad comes into contact with that non-smooth surface. The lip on the outer edge isn't a problem.
  11. Toyota speedos are purposely calibrated to read over in the UK. If a speedo reads 70 mph at a true 70 mph then according to the repair manuals it should be replaced as it is out of calibration. There are legal reasons why this is the case, and the main purpose is to make sure it never reads under the true speed, but Toyota do seem to make their speedos read over by more than some manufacturers. The odometer is much more accurate. In other regions the speedo is more accurate too but it can also read under. Remember it is never going to be 100% accurate, the calibration isn't changed depending on vehicle's wheel size, which all have a slightly different circumference, and you will get at least 1 mph difference just from your tyre thread wearing down from 8mm to 2mm.
  12. Part of the value is keeping this site running. Without gold membership revenue it would be difficult to meet hosting fees etc.
  13. There may be other benefits to using a more expensive fuel other than mpg/power gains, for example better additives to maintain your mpg. Regarding port cleaning I'm not sure this is a big issue. Carbon build-up on inlet valves can be an issue for direct injection engines but no fuel additive can correct that as the fuel doesn't touch the inlet valves, which is the reason for the problem in the first place. This certainly isn't an issue for the CT200h as it isn't a direct injection engine. CT200h, RX450h, NX300h aren't direct injection, the IS300h, GS300h, and GS450h are.
  14. The battery capacity isn't big. Using anything electrical without the vehicle in 'Ready' will rapidly discharge the battery. Even leaving the interior light on overnight will flatten the battery where other vehicles would cope.
  15. I'd guess this is fuel related, either fuel pressure issue or a faulty fuel injector.
  16. Correct there is no difference in actual energy however the detonation performance is the key to the difference. With a higher RON fuel the ECU can use a more advanced timing, extracting more energy from the fuel. The mpg attained from a standard petrol engined vehicle is 100% to do with the burning of fuel whilst the engine is running. On a hybrid a percentage of that mpg comes from shutting off the engine during deceleration or when stationary and an even smaller percentage from energy recovery. Therefore if you improve engine efficiency the overall percentage improvement on a hybrid will be less than with a standard petrol engine. The hybrid engines are also typically running an Atkinson cycle which don't respond to higher octane fuel with the same benefit as an Otto engine.
  17. You don't get dipping mirrors unless you have the memory function as it needs that feature to put the mirror back in the right place once you come out of reverse. Unfortunately Lexus have gone out of their way to try and boost sales of the Premier grade, eliminating features from the other grades even as options.
  18. All the ones for Europe will be made in Japan. Some are also made in Canada but these are for the Americas.
  19. sounds like you may have a partial airlock in the heater matrix. The GS430 is particularly difficult to refill the coolant and get all the air out.
  20. That is because they are a US company. Toyota were fined more for things less serious.
  21. Ford? They are about sixth. Toyota are still number 1, VW were larger in the first half of the year but doesn't look like they are going to maintain that for the full year.
  22. An inverter failure would shut down everything. No 12v supply, no power to start the engine (one of the electric motors turns over the engine), no reverse (reverse is electric only).
  23. The problem with disconnecting your battery is your security system isn't enabled, potentially invalidating your insurance policy.
