  1. If it is getting that hot then you really shouldn't be using it, you could cause serious damage to the engine. Difficult to tell remotely what is causing the overheating issue. Is it faulty coils causing the engine to run lean and getting hot, or is something else causing the engine to get hot (air lock, faulty thermostat, radiator fans, fuel injector issue causing lean running, restricted exhaust from cats breaking up) which then causes the coils to fail. A Toyota engine will very rarely go above the middle on the temperature gauge if everything is working correctly, normally sits just below the mid point.
  2. Should be softer than the disc, never heard of it causing a problem before.
  3. I see the foot brake comment often on these forums. Personally I don't understand the dislike, yes it may be different but after a few days it is just natural.
  4. I'm not calling anybody a liar but I think it is a tolerance thing. I don't believe people who say they don't have any rattles. I've been in plenty of RXs, GSs, ISs, owned 6 myself, and they all have multiple rattles, even demonstrators or loan vehicles with less that 1,000 miles on the clock. Press any of the trim panels and they all tend to click and creak as multiple hard plastics touch each other - which they do on their own when going over bumps etc. Most of the issues aren't continuous rattles, although I have a couple of those too. You see hundreds of these sort of complaints on US forums - it is just something associated with Lexus/Toyota vehicles - if you want a reliable car get a Lexus, rattle free then possibly BMW.
  5. The Audi CVT is more of a traditional CVT rather than the planetary gear system that Toyota uses. I thought they were meant to be quite nice to drive but they are very unreliable, even for Audi's poor standards, so they have stopped production.
  6. Too critical for most but I'm with you. Sadly a common trait that affects all Lexus vehicles from the 90s to the present day. I've some of your rattles along with one or two with the roof lining, a temperature affected rattle around the LHD dashboard/glovebox/A pillar and one or two that I'm not sure where they are. I have a particularly harsh road that I travel on point to work - newly resurfaced but with quite large stone chips, and after driving on it for a few weeks multiple rattles started to occur :( The armrest rattle seems to come from the latch, my dealer tried to resolve thinking it was the main cover not resting fully on the rubber stops so added some felt but that just made it worse. I get a slight noise from the drivers door which seems to be the seal isn't tight enough. When I clean the seal with some silicone spray it seems to resolve for a while. My neighbour who has the same car also complains of the same thing, which seems to be more noticeable in colder weather.
  7. If the coils are truly being damaged then yes I would agree. The voltage regulator on the alternator could be faulty which is supplying too much voltage - easy to check with a voltmeter and if it is that then you are lucky the ECU and other electric components haven't been affected. The only other way that the coils could be damaged that I can think of is if they are being overheated, but you would probably notice if the engine was running that hot.
  8. Great result :) Shame they didn't pick up the issue before handing over the car, or they probably did but hoped you wouldn't complain :(
  9. Not robbed, you just don't have a nice dealer like Rayaans. My dealer has never charged anything other than the legal maximum for an MOT.
  10. VVT-i doesn't kick in at 4500 rpm or 3000 rpm. This isn't a Honda VTEC switching to different cam lobs at a set rpm. The first V in the name standard for variable - not sudden jump. The ACIS does kick in around 4,500 rpm on the IS200 to shorten the intake
  11. The illustration shows both lights moving but one only slightly. Turning left or right cause different amounts of swivel as explained above, the nearside light can turn in more without impacting oncoming traffic.
  12. Welcome and congrats on the new vehicle :)
  13. For hydrogen cars to become established there needs to be refuelling infrastructure. It is in Toyota's interest to help other manufacturers get up to speed. Not sure why this is making the news today, the same story was reported at least 10 months ago. Is the Mirai ugly? That is a matter of opinion, but the main purpose is for it to be different and standout which it does achieve.
  14. The coil packs are driven directly from the ECU so if they really are being damaged then maybe the ECU is at fault or an electrical issue. I'm not so sure the coil packs are failing though - worth getting the error code(s) as a first step and checking the battery voltage with and without the engine running. When you are replacing the coils are you doing anything else that could explain the change - e.g. disconnecting the battery?
  15. part codes here: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2002_LEXUS_IS200%7E300_GXE10R-AEFVKW_5202.html Your local Lexus dealer would be the best place to start?
  16. Lexus apply more paint than other Japanese manufacturers, including Toyota.
  17. If you purchased from a Lexus dealer then you should have 12 months warranty. This would certainly be covered under that warranty, but remember if you cannot get it to misbehave then the dealer is unlikely to either so you may be wasting your time booking it in. But worth speaking to them to see what they suggest as the next step.
  18. I agree they aren't as good as they could be but one thing to check is whether you have s-flow turned on or off. The seat fans draw in air from behind/underneath so you want the rear of the vehicle to be cooled so cold air is passed through the seat - i.e. s-flow turned off.
  19. I'm sure you are not doing anything wrong, just a badly implemented system. My system was storing all the trips with the correct name and then suddenly a few months ago they all just turned into the post codes even though on the portal they were still named. I just wish Lexus would give up and let us have CarPlay and Android Auto.
