If an O2 sensor has a complete failure then the ECU can detect that instantly and the fault will be hard on. If the fault is something like catalyst system efficiency below threshold then depending on circumstances you may or may not trigger the error and therefore it appears intermittent. As you are look to replace a rear sensor you can probably get away with Bosch, but I'd only use Denso for a front sensor. Failure of the rear sensor is quite rare unless physically damaged. When O2 sensors start to fail then tend to react slowly however in the rear position the ECU actually looks for a slowly reacting signal for normal behaviour so it cannot really tell if a sensor is playing up. Faulty front sensors often are the cause of fault codes associated with the rear sensor.

There are three sensors on the IS. Two on the inlet manifold which are the same sensor just a different lead length and a rear one after the main cat on the exhaust. Denso do direct fix replacements. Have a look at sparkplugs.co.uk, should be less than 100 Euro.

To my knowledge no it wouldn't. You should only get a check engine light as a result of an O2 sensor faulty however I've seen other engine only issues cause a hybrid warning so I cannot rule out the possibility completely. You really need to get the error code(s) to fully understand and if you have a flat or weak aux battery (standard 12v car battery) you can get all sorts of spurious errors which just need to be cleared.

An O2 sensor can fail in a variety of ways, some affecting the petrol engine more than others. Typically it will slightly affect the efficiency of the engine. Replacement is normally easy, you just need to have the correct split socket, especially designed for an O2 sensor, and use the anti-seize compound that comes with the new sensor on the thread so it can be removed in the future.

Don't go near Bosch, Denso are factory fit. Questionably whether that sensor is actually at fault, it is rare for a rear sensor to be faulty - what was the error code?

The RX450h is very nice if you are okay with the outside styling. Some of the features are showing their age now that the design is 6 years old. The only issue I see is that in a couple of months time the new RX comes out which could impact the value of the current generation.

Try a Toyota dealer, paint codes are shared just the names that are different.

Yes the same as the old 250 and current 300h, the F Sport gets sports suspension. Only the 300h has the option to add AVS, currently it isn't offered as an option on the 200t.

The engine will always start soon after the system is 'Ready' from cold as it needs to warm up, it doesn't really matter what charge state the hybrid battery is in. Once warm however the engine should shut down when stationary and if you are gentle you can pull away on batteries with the petrol engine cutting in when needed.

The IS200 has always been a bit of a problem for rear seats due to the buckle issue, I think it is even worse these days because the seats have grown slightly in the last 15 years. Even with a correctly fitting non-ISOFIX seat my wife struggled with the limited rear space to get the child in and out of the seat so we did end up selling the car.

The series III GS450h has a second generation Toyota hybrid system, the CT uses a third generation system which makes more use of EV mode. Also the GS hybrid system was designed to supplement the petrol engine, adding extra power when needed, whereas the CT uses the Prius drivetrain which is tuned for economy rather than performance.

You have to be very gentle with the accelerator on the IS otherwise it will come out of EV and stop you going into EV again until the system has gone through a warming cycle. When cold the max speed is limited to 20 mph, once warm the forced EV mode allows up to 30 mph.

You shouldn't have to remove a cover. If it isn't in the engine bay then it is possibly on the passengers door pillar.

All the people that really complain about this are not in the UK. Not sure if it is road surface related or the LHD conversion makes it worse but it is really just slight in my vehicle - noticed it a couple of times today on Motorway roadworks at 50 mph, just accelerated a tiny bit to avoid the situation.

The F Sport is supposed to have a slightly different intake to generate more noise, you don't get that on the Sport grade.

It's about 4% optimistic, around 2 mpg over although it does seem to vary between tanks. All my previous Lexus vehicles have been the same.

Yes, along with European Prius + but not their mainstream vehicles. The number of Prius plugins wouldn't cause an issue for their brand reliability and they are using them as a long term test. Toyota still feel they can charge their hybrid batteries faster than Lithium, which is why they are sticking with them for the next gen Prius.

Slight vibration at 1,300 rpm when cruising/under slight acceleration. Some vehicles are worse than others and even then only some people notice it - feels like poor road surface.
