  1. Agreed, I should be more clear. The engine revisions resulted in a drop in CO2, not directly because of Euro V, but because Toyota made the engine overall more efficient and the oil certainly played some part in that, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered. The problem with comparing oil viscosity is it isn't as reliable as it once was in determining an oil's lubricating ability, with a synthetic oil typically outperforming a mineral oil of the same grade. I'd not want to use a mineral 0W-20 oil but I've seen no evidence of increased engine problems since the move to 0W-20 synthetic oil.
  2. very nice, the colour of the vehicle certainly suits the mood.
  3. The round bit is the top of an eyelet that should be in the carpet. You could put the clip straight into a hole in the carpet but you risk tearing open the hole over time.
  4. I'm sure there are engine/trim/colour combinations that sell well, or dealers will take as demonstrators, to allow a certain number of cars to be pre-ordered but that doesn't have to be the case, especially for a lower volume model such as a RC or IS 350 - if someone wants the extra power they will probably be prepared to wait 10 weeks for delivery.
  5. I'd have a 350 if it was available. Unfortunately Lexus GB are too conservative. The cars are built to order so it isn't too much of an issue that they won't sell many. I'm surprised, given their attitude, they sell any of the F models.
  6. It is, and an expensive one at that. £ 2,600 for rear facing seats.
  7. The engine had minor revisions to make it Euro V compliant. The engine has improved CO emissions as a result. Changing the factory fill oil to 0W-20 was one of the changes.
  8. No UK. Toyota always state SN, SM, SL, API standards for UK Petrol engines.
  9. IS250 2011 onwards have the following recommendations: Oil grade: 0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30: API grade SL “Energy-Conserving”, SM “Energy-Conserving”, SN “Resource-Conserving” or ILSAC multigrade engine oil 15W-40 and 20W-50: API grade SL, SM or SN multigrade engine oil SAE 0W-20 is filled into your Lexus vehicle at manufacturing, and the best choice for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather. If SAE 0W-20 oil is not avail- able, SAE 5W-30 oil may be used. However, it should be replaced with SAE 0W-20 at the next oil change. If you use SAE 10W-30 or a higher viscosity engine oil in extremely low temperatures, the engine may become difficult to start, so SAE 5W-30 or lower viscosity engine oil is recommended. Oil viscosity (0W-20 is explained here as an example): The 0W in 0W-20 indicates the characteristic of the oil which allows cold startability. Oils with a lower value before the W allow for easier starting of the engine in cold weather. The 20 in 0W-20 indicates the viscosity characteristic of the oil when the oil is at high temperature. An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is oper- ated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions.
  10. Welcome and congratulations.
  11. It's a relative score though, compared to other vehicles in its class it has good practicality.
  12. typically it is the front sensor that cause this error rather than the rear sensor but it can also be an air leak in the exhaust or a cat starting to lose efficiency.
  13. This isn't true, the petrol engine will run to generate heat. Cooling is electric however.
  14. Mixing tyres isn't idea but is legal (provided they are the same size) and with the advent of features such as wheel independent ABS and stability control there really isn't a safety issue. Not sure a generalist statement about Yokohama and Dunlop is useful. Plenty of Yoko tyres outperform Dunlop and vice versa, both are tier 1 manufacturers. Mixing tyres however lowers your performance to the lowest common denominator, if one is, relatively, poor in wet weather and the other poor with cornering you now have a car with both poor wet weather and cornering performance. Lexus used car quality used to be far greater than it is today. Back in 2000 just a few stone chips would mean a full bonnet respray, wheels where almost always refurbished and tyres needed 5mm+ tread on them to pass the independent RAC inspection that Lexus put in place. Today none of that exists and as a buyer you need to negotiate everything yourself.
  15. All the CTs share the same engine and CVT transmission. The F Sport has styling differences and a firmer suspension.
  16. are you sure? http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-IS/IS-300h/2.5-SE/Belfast/3627527-605532135-1607031.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_ http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-IS/IS-300h/2.5-SE/Stockton-On-Tees/3627527-605583709-1607040.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_ There was a white colour exclusive to the F Sport (083 colour code) but arctic pearl was available for the rest of the range (077 colour code) from launch.
  17. It isn't. Why would Lexus, a Japanese manufacturer, care about some spec from a European group of manufacturers (ACEA)? The information in the handbook provides the required information, it contains more than just a viscosity rating.
  18. air temp sensor isn't on top of the dash, that is the sunlight sensor which is used to compensate for direct sunlight shining into the vehicle.
  19. Much cheaper to run an old European car than a Lexus. Many third party parts are available for a fraction of the cost from a dealer, and plenty of scrapped cars/used parts available.
  20. You could cut down the lugs, but ideally you should replace them with shorter ones.
  21. Go for a series II RX, not a series I as the gearbox can give problems at high mileage.
  22. You need to be careful with some of these cleaners as they are aggressive, especially if you have higher grade semi-aniline leather which doesn't have a think robust coating which the cheaper corrected grain leathers have. You really should only use them once or twice a year and just use a damp cloth for regular cleaning.
  23. Welcome Kris No real buyers guide as such but good advise given in this forum in the past. For example: Service history and making sure money has been spent when needed on the correct brakes / tyres is a must. I think there were more dark interiors sold compared to light. 7 currently in the Lexus dealer network, 5 have black interiors.
