  1. See how you like the NX first. If you are concerned about the CVT then the same applies to the GS300h and 450h although the engine noise in the GS is greatly reduced. This may not be a factor for you if you plan to keep the vehicle for some time but the NX will hold its value better than the GS.
  2. Looks good. Even better if they actually get official CarPlay / Android Auto certification.
  3. iPhone works okay with the IS system. SMS alert seems a bit hit and miss and you cannot reply (down to Apple's restrictions). No email notifications at all. Reversing camera comes with the premium info system, standard on the Premier but optional on other grades. There is also a 'cheaper' version of the info system / reversing camera (standard on the Executive Edition) which doesn't have the realtime guidelines that move with the steering wheel.
  4. They worked very well on my old RX400h, and they are completely rubbish on my IS300h.
  5. The undersealing was a bit weak on the series II RX, not sure if the series III is any better but easy to add more as preventative maintenance. Inverter had a recall, not heard of any other common issue with the 400h or 450h. 12v battery is better on the 450h but if it is 5 years old then change it and you are good for another 5 years. Brakes need to be checked for correct operation periodically (every year) the same as other Lexus vehicles as the sliding pins corrode. Also brakes should be applied hard every few weeks to keep everything moving - if you are light on the brakes then the rears essentially never get used because most of the braking is done with the electric motors and the disc surface can rust.
  6. The LS is expensive in this country, but it is a fully loaded long wheelbase hybrid, which they don't sell in the US. The US LS also has to be specified with options to bring it up to UK spec, such as the $7k luxury pack, $16k seating package and the $2k adaptive suspension package. Also remember that the UK LS has £16k of VAT included in the price. The GS 450h is expensive as the lower grades have been taken away, only the 300h gets those. The CT is priced reasonably well. The Auris used to be much cheaper and better spec'd but over the last couple of years the price has crept up to be comparable with the CT. The Auris is still slightly better value, especially as it has a better 5 year warranty.
  7. Correct. If you think it could be a plug then just swap it with another to see if the fault moves.
  8. Turn off the heating/aircon to see if that helps. The engine will run if the cabin needs to be heated.
  9. Lexus suggest the following as possible cause (in order of likelihood) Open or short in engine wire harness Connector connection Vacuum hose connection Ignition system Injector Fuel pressure Mass air flow meter Engine coolant temperature sensor Compression pressure Valve clearance Valve timing PCV hose connection PCV hose ECM
  10. I'm not sure any are in the country yet. I doubt there is much change other than the larger screen which allows a split screen mode like the GS system.
  11. There was a sport between 1998 and 2000. It was discontinued when the facelift came out, along with the GS430 at the end of 2000. Lexus GB were going to release the sport, but weren't happy with the suspension, go a few where sold with just the cosmetic changes. In 2003 they finally got the revised suspension 'correct' and so the sport was re-introduced. All series II sports are modified by Lexus GB on import, they leave Japan as standard SEs. They use European sourced parts - TTE body parts (no doubt manufactured by somebody else), O.Z. wheels, Eibach suspension.
  12. That sounds about right. It's a safety warning designed to alert if your pressures get dangerously low, it isn't there to tell you your pressures are slightly below your desired setting.
  13. as above. Anything with an h at the end (i.e a hybrid) has a CVT, all non-hybrids have auto transmissions.
  14. I'm sure the fridge will help attenuate the signal, which may be enough to stop it working, but it isn't a great faraday cage. I believe all Lexus keyless models have a vulnerability - unless the very latest ones have been updated.
  15. Put it in 6th gear to create the maximum resistance, also make sure the wheels are chocked to prevent the vehicle moving.
  16. The highway code should be your guide - undertaking isn't illegal (no MUST/MUST NOT in the rule) but it is against the code, therefore in an accident you would be at fault. Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/motorways-253-to-273 Rule 268 Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.
  17. All the best Michael, enjoy your new vehicle.
  18. It's an implementation issue rather than a flawed concept. Keyless entry systems are fooled because they don't measure the time delay to guarantee the key is next to the vehicle, hence they can be fooled by repeaters. We have no idea if that is the issue here, the key could have easily been cloned when left somewhere - which is possible with any Lexus of any age.
  19. If you have no power when connecting a battery then it is possible that the main 120A Alt fuse has blown.
  20. If you have low battery voltage it can trigger some spurious fault codes.
  21. Normally to reset the audio/nav system you press and hold the on/off button for 5 to 10 seconds until it resets. Not sure if that trick works on the older LS models though.
  22. You can find Lexus pricing here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/#ServicingYourLexus scroll down to essential care and select RX.
  23. or just slip a local mechanic £10 to undo it for you - it will only take them a couple of minutes with the right tools.
