  1. Once you got in started did it continue to run correctly?
  2. Corrosion on the braking surfaces of the discs indicate sticking callipers, more common on the rear. Water inside the rear light cluster.
  3. A FWD vehicle is almost essential for the US market due to their winter months. If the ES becomes a RWD vehicle then they will have to also offer an AWD option.
  4. There is no real way to 'test' the battery, even a dealer can only do a basic test. Take the vehicle for a test drive and make sure no engine management lights come on. Dealers don't stamp the log book when performing recalls unfortunately. A dealer will be able to check that it has been performed by searching the Lexus database. The recall was for vehicles manufactured between Sept. 2004 through to Aug. 2006.
  5. Certainly worth resetting the ECU as a first step, disconnect the battery for a minute or pull the ECU fuse(s). This will reset the transmission 'learning' state.
  6. this isn't really anything to do with a fly by wire throttle, this is the gearbox performing an abrupt gear change - essentially poor management software but I don't think there is anything you can do unless there is a specific problem with your vehicle.
  7. I don't think it's now messed up, it's actually probably fixed to the way Lexus want. They don't typically allow code downloads unless you are a techstream subscriber. The previous way we were obtaining the file was probably an oversight on their part. This wasn't a customer facing file due to the complicated install process compared to the ones they make available on the customer portal. I've found VD12103A, it contains two files dated 30/11/15 which sounds about right.
  8. I've had this issue in the past and Lexus were unable to fix the issue at their end. I just started from scratch and created a new account which fixed the issue, been ok for a year now. I've also seen issues in the past by having the same account name (email address) or car details registered on both the Toyota and Lexus portals.
  9. It seems that since Lexus revamped the website the method to obtain the file no longer works. It may just be because you need a valid subscription at the time of trying the search, in the past I've just purchased a one hour subscription. I may have the file somewhere, just not sure of the filename :(
  10. and Harman itself is now owned by Samsung. I suspect Toyota and Lexus may well stop using JBL / ML in the next year or two.
  11. If you can get the part code you can check on www.toyodiy.com to see what vehicles use the same part. I suspect they use the same injector, the engine is essentially identical - certainly the 175 bhp engine, not sure if the lower power units use different injectors.
  12. the manual system on the RX, where the driver has to press down on the brake pedal to initiate the feature, doesn't take into account the incline at all.
  13. It doesn't have the same engine, hence the difference in power.
  14. Stock Toyota filters aren't restrictive so you really won't get any benefit, especially if you don't also get a better flowing exhaust and a remap. You may get a slightly better sound but the stock airbox will mask most of that. The have been plenty of issues reported with people over oiling the filters so you need to be careful there when cleaning. They also don't filter as well as the OEM filters but not really a problem in the UK climate. I've personally tried K&Ns on two or three different cars in the past, don't bother these days.
  15. I can't say I ever really noticed this in reverse, like Ja I notice it rolling back when trying to go forwards on an incline, but it sounds normal. There isn't a hill assist function on the 400h and it also doesn't increase power to the motor if it starts to roll the wrong way so the steeper the incline the worse it will be.
  16. Even if you get it to work you cannot rely on the results. I've checked my vehicles (previous and current) and not all the work has been entered correctly on the system. I'd only assume that anything in the last two years is correct.
  17. Toyota/Lexus stupidly believe they have a better system and that it provides differentiation in the market place. Well it certainly does that, just not in a positive way. They are clinging onto a 20 year old business model of upsetting people to a £2k nav system with £100+ map updates.
  18. Keep us updated on how you get on with it. I've heard they aren't as reliable as a Prius but I imagine some of that is exaggerated.
  19. Very positive review, especially compared to the RC F which Top Gear hated. Opposite to what you would expect, BMW M5 better for normal driving on the roads, and the Lexus better on the track.
  20. What type of journeys? Wrong time of year to be getting good mpg from a hybrid. Use your seat heaters and turn off the heating system to allow the engine to cut out rather than keep running to heat the cabin for the first couple of miles. What pressures do you have your tyres set to? No need to pulse and glide but when cruising a steady 30 to 40 mph you need to learn to lift off until the EV light comes on and then be gentle on the throttle to maintain speed without letting the engine start again. Check you wheels after a journey to make sure one or more isn't hot - to make sure you don't have a brake that isn't dragging.
  21. 3 - You really need to test an F Sport to make your own mind up. Personally I find the F Sport a little too hard for my liking, but I put up with it for the looks and the paint colour :) A Premier, also on 18" wheels, is a little softer due to the different suspension, and the 17" wheel models are noticeably smoother in their ride without being too soft. Economy on the F Sport is a few mpg less than the other models due to less efficient aerodynamics.
