  1. I'm sure you can use google like every one else but here is one article for a start: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html K&N is the worst, by a long way. Toyota actually use K&N in high altitude countries (or have done in the past) because they are less restrictive, but being less restrictive means they don't filter as well.
  2. I assumed you have a forth generation RX (new shape) and also assumed that the hill assist is now fully automatic on the RX as it is with the IS and current Toyota vehicles. Do you still have to press down hard and get a beep confirmation?
  3. From Lexus' point of view the HID lamps last the lifetime of the vehicle and therefore no consideration is given to make it easy for the owner to replace them. I doubt they went out of their way to make sure they couldn't though. Unfortunately the IS light design doesn't hold up to the lifetime claims, poor component or poor design/lack of ventilation I suspect. You don't get ballast issues with the RX.
  4. Well my actual stats are here: http://www.fuelly.com/car/lexus/is300h/2013/colin10086/312407 I'd suggest you learn to use fuelly correctly and make sure you are in UK capacities and not American. My best tank is over 52 mpg, and if when I drive a loan vehicle I consistently get 2 or 3 mpg more than my F Sport because of the lighter/smaller wheels and more aerodynamic body. Non F Sports can easily get 55 mpg on a tank.
  5. Welcome Sandy :) Hill-start assist should work in forward or reverse (it does on the IS). Unless the slope is sufficient the hill assist won't function. I suggest you find a suitable slope and give it a test.
  6. You can get basic service components and third party brake pads and discs easily, but for other things you will probably need to get parts from Lexus or import from the US.
  7. The difference between the 8 speaker premium audio system and the ML is very minor, maybe even less than the difference between standard and ML with the series II. The basic 6 speaker system is quite poor for Lexus standards.
  8. The number of speakers really isn't a measure for how good a system is though is it? ML has modified amps and drivers, but as with all audio equipment the cost vs improvement ratio greatly increases once you reach a good enough point (probably where the stock system is). Many people won't notice or care about the extra performance of the ML system, especially in the relatively noisy environment of the IS series II interior.
  9. K&N are inferior to the OEM filters in terms of filtration. Multiple tests have proven that. K&N are less restrictive. I guess it depends what you want from a filter.
  10. Do you own one? If not then you shouldn't comment about things you don't know about.
  11. I think you should get better than what you are getting. Check the temperature of the wheels after a journey, you may have a brake that is sticking.
  12. This is unfortunately how Toyota operate. Models typically have a 6 to 8 year life, with one 'major' facelift halfway through. The yearly updates are very minor.
  13. As the vehicle is over five years old you can go for essential servicing, which costs £225/£425 compared to £295/£495 for normal servicing.
  14. Brake fluid change is the main thing that is performed with the full service that isn't on the intermediate. Technically Toyota/Lexus could deny warranty if all the items on the full schedule aren't being performed. £445 is a total ripoff though and I also don't understand why it is more than the NX300h, which is cheaper at £395.
  15. I agree and I much prefer the electronic ones, you don't have the issue with canceling when indicating right and turning left onto a roundabout like you do with the mechanical ones.
  16. I'm not surprised. In 2016, 97% of all IS sales were for the 300h and the figure is looking even higher during 2017. Across the whole range, Lexus sales figures in the last few years years have been 97% hybrid, so far this year it is 99%.
  17. The RC red interior is quite dark but the RC F is much brighter, not that far off from the pictures on the website.
  18. Flushing machines exist although reports suggest these can cause problems by stirring up debris on older vehicles which can clog the valve chamber. Or you can do it manually, drain the pan and refill, pull a line off the cooler, pump out 0.5 l then turn off the engine, add in 0.5l fresh into the box, repeat pump out/replace until the fluid coming out turns from dark to light red. Best not to let it get in too bad a state in the first place, do a pan drill/refill every couple of years once past 60k miles.
  19. It uses a hard disk based nav system, not a DVD. Upgrading is performed by your dealer which unfortunately costs a little more than a disc because you have to pay for their time to perform the upgrade :(
  20. I don't believe the premium nav supports it, not sure about the standard nav.
  21. They seem to be informing people in batches, been going on for months now. Yet to hear of anybody actually in need of any work done after the inspection.
  22. The IS major service price has been £445 for quite some time. They are now being more transparent with the 40k, 60k, 80k services because there are additional checks/parts needed that used to be charged as extras on top of the £445 price. I was quoted £485 for my 40k service several weeks ago but was only charge £445 by my dealer.
  23. I don't really understand why the NX is cheaper than the IS to service at any interval except that it is their best selling vehicle and they want to keep running costs down. I was only charged £445 for my 40k service a couple of weeks ago.
  24. when you say it did not respond do you mean you just got a steady blinking indicating no errors or you didn't get it to blink?
