Together in Electric Dreams
ColinBarber replied to tomRCFcarbon's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I'd say 50.1% market share is achievable in 5 years. There are a few large companies working on next generation battery tech which could come to market in 3 or 4 years time, plus a reduction in cost from economies of scale should mean the largest volume segments start to include ULEV. ULEVs greatly outsold the entire Lexus range in 2016 with exponential growth in 2017. The new Leaf is a massive improvement over the old model, so will appeal to more and more people.- 104 replies

If you are talking about Techstream then either speak to Toyota/Lexus who will support you if you are using official software and their recommended cable, or if you have a pirate copy of the software then it isn't for discussion on these forums. Have you tried something like Carista which is simpler to install and use? -
I'm not sure where the confusion is here. Which? removed their best buy status from the IS, and other Toyota/Lexus models, because CO emissions are way above supposed limits in their testing. Yes the amount of CO is much less than CO2, but there is a specific CO limit which isn't being met. They didn't have issue with CO2 or NOx emissions.

Welcome John, a nice project there and great write up. Shame about the warning lights, and poor MOT testing as they should check the MIL light comes on and then goes out. FYI, the transmission level should be checked when up to temperature, the engine is still running and you have been through all the gear selections to make sure fluid is all around the valve body. You shouldn't use the cold level - that is just an initial indictor to get somewhere in the ballpark when filling up.

Hybrid Battery Meter
ColinBarber replied to Andrew888's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
There are several circumstances when the engine will keep running, where to the driver thinks it seems correct for the engine to stop. Typically the system is going through some maintenance/calibration cycle. I've seen reports of it keeping the engine running after descending a hill with a full battery for a few seconds - one theory is the system is removing a small amount of charge from the battery so regen braking works as expected when the brakes are next applied but I've not seen any official documentation to confirm this. It isn't something to worry about, unless the petrol engine fails to shut down for several minutes just let the system do its thing. -
CO2 isn't in question, it is CO.

It isn't even a 2013 model with the latest suspension revisions. -

Hybrid Battery Meter
ColinBarber replied to Andrew888's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
This isn't entirely correct. There is no power generated if the circuit is disconnected, which the ECU can do when the battery is charged or you put the transmission in N for example. The same principle applies to a normal car's alternator - excess electricity isn't generated, only what is required. The engine is spun to protect the gear mechanism from excess speed, and also to stop the voltage from the motor/generator from exceeding the maximum voltage the system is designed for. To quote the official explanation of the hybrid control system: -
RC300h listed as RC-F
ColinBarber replied to Linas.P's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
It started happening over two years ago. -
Agreed, but if the engine dropped its oil, or a bolt came loose, then it doesn't really matter how much care you were taking at the time, you end up with a big lump of scrap metal. Given the number of GS450h either scrapped, or sold cheaply, because of hybrid issues it shouldn't be too difficult to get a replacement engine relatively economically.

RC300h listed as RC-F
ColinBarber replied to Linas.P's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
This originally happened because the RC F launched before the RC and there was no RC category on Autotrader when used RCs started to appear so they got put into RC F instead - this even happened on the Lexus website. Since then the additional categories have been created but it still happens. Why? maybe it is a case of 'I've always done it that way' for some junior admin person or an automated system that was initially set up and hasn't been altered etc. I'm sure it isn't on purpose, as has been stated it probably results in a loss in eyeballs not additional ones. -
That in itself shouldn't be an issue - it is within published performance figures of the vehicle.
-
I'd be wary of purchasing a used battery pack to just replace a faulty one. Given the very small number of GS450h vehicles sold, and the high number of people with battery issues, you are likely to just have a similar problem at some point down the road. Better to get your existing one repaired, or purchase a used one to use for parts or get repaired itself.

but only up to 20 mph when the vehicle is cold, also when cold the amount of acceleration is very limited which is what Ian has found. Useful for moving your vehicle if you are blocking someone in, which stops the petrol engine starting up in, but shouldn't really be used otherwise - can be detrimental to your economy compared to letting the vehicle do its own thing.

You should be able to read the following which talks about the testing methods used: https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/new-and-used-cars/article/how-we-test/how-we-test-mpg-and-emissions All CO reading will be high on the motorway but most Toyota engines perform poorly compared to other manufacturers. For example a 1 litre Aygo emits more than a Porsche 911 or BMW 4 series. https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/new-and-used-cars/article/air-pollution-and-car-emissions/cars-that-produce-the-most-co A lot of engines are clearly designed to perform well for emissions just within the narrow official testing criteria, they may not so as far as detecting a test and switching to a test defeating mode that isn't used in real life but effects are similar.
-
They don't 'think', they know - the vehicle was tested with measuring equipment.
-
The RC is slightly heavier than the IS and the coefficient of drag is also higher. Lexus' official figures suggests the RC consumes 8% more.
-
I don't think anybody made those assumptions. You also conveniently don't take into account the amount of energy required to extract, refine, distribute, and sell petrol.
-
It depends on what you goal is. Electric vehicles are much more efficient than IC engines and generating electricity in a few power stations makes it much easier to control and contain pollution than from millions for vehicles all over the country.
