  1. Thankfully that is impossible. The 12v battery isn't directly connected to the traction battery.
  2. Not really possible on a road vehicle where the tread of a tyre ranges from 8mm to 1.6mm over its lifetime which affects speedo accuracy.
  3. If you haven't had to charge it before then I'd not replace at 5 years, maybe after 8 or 10. If it has been discharged below 1/4 capacity on more than one occasion then that could of weakened it and therefore think about replacing it. Not just cost but also environmental issues are reasons not to replace things before needed. There is always the danger than you swap out a perfectly good battery and replace it with one that has a manufacturing detect which lets you down within the first few months - wouldn't be the first time that has happened.
  4. Seem to work well on the IS, don't see why the NX would be different.
  5. Toyodiy.com show the three part codes for the European GS450h timing chains as also being the same for the US. Here is the main one - both Euro and US GWS191 shown at the bottom to use the same part code 13506-31031
  6. No, the hybrid health check warranty only covers the battery. All other components such as motor, inverter, pumps etc. are not covered. If this is the pump in the transmission at fault then it can be fixed easily for around £7.
  7. There is an anti-reflective coating that is easily damaged with many cleaners. If it happens then best just to use something to completely remove the coating.
  8. Keys aren't programmed/cleared, you program the ECU to work with the key's permanent unique code. A dealer should be able to supply and program a new key to a vehicle for £300 or less. Get a quote first to double check. I'd also ask them to wipe the data of all keys and add the ones you have back in - there is a lost key out there somewhere which you don't want to work anymore. You can certainly do it yourself but need access to techstream software, or follow some weird programming procedure. Just make sure you get a EU key, not a cheap one from the US as they work on different frequencies.
  9. Never looked into this myself but I know from previous people posting here that it is very difficult to get agreement to an exchange.
  10. The engine is tuned for it, the ECU has mappings that will exploit the higher octane rating, however whether anything would happen within 50 miles is debatable.
  11. I guess the same will happen to the rears to a lesser extent, rounding off the square edge. What tyre pressures do you run?
  12. Front tyres wear on the outer edges if you are doing mainly town driving. Roundabouts, tight corners etc all load the outer edge compared to just sitting on a straight motorway. As Thackeray has stated, many tyre designs don't have full tread depth on the edges (secondary grooves) so they will wear down quickly and may completely go - it is only the centre 75% of the tyre that needs tread at 1.6mm or higher.
  13. The number of charge cycles is the main criteria for these batteries so should be fine.
  14. The 12v battery isn't used to start the vehicle and therefore can be much smaller than for a traditional vehicle, which saves space and weight. The downside is that it's electrical capacity is much lower and therefore goes flat quite quickly. Draining it below 70% causes minor damage to the battery, lowering the capacity, which means you are more likely to flatten it again next time and so you get into a vicious circle. When using any power, e.g. listening to radio etc, you should always have the vehicle in 'Ready' so the hybrid system is providing power to the vehicle, and actually charging the 12v battery. In 'Ready' if the hybrid battery goes low the petrol engine will run for a couple of minutes to charge and then shut down again.
  15. Speedo is designed to read over, the odo is designed to be accurate - probably to within 2%, due to tyre wear and different tyre/wheel size options the manufacturer offers which alter the circumference of the tyre.
  16. Techstream isn't for end users and costs money to use legally etc. My point was that your dealer should have done this and restored your memory points for you if the functionality is there.
  17. I also thought dealers can do a backup/restore with Techstream in case the work they are doing will delete things.
  18. One possible solution, which I admit isn't ideal, is to set your destinations on My Lexus website and push them to the vehicle, that way if they are wiped they can just be push down again.
  19. Did you purchase this vehicle from new?
  20. All vehicles with HID or LED lights have to have a self levelling system by law. Given that both are out then that certainly does suggest a problem with the self levelling sensor on the suspension - a single sensor controls both lights. HID/LED bulbs should last the life of the vehicle but Lexus won't warrant such a thing - maybe in the first three years but not on an extended warranty.
  21. No they don't. The electricity, in its generation, may produce emissions but the vehicle itself does not.
  22. From greencarguide: This seems to match the definition on the government's website.
  23. Well I assumed ZEV is included in the ULEV question raised. The definition of ULEV will certain change over the next 5 to 10 years.
  24. There is something specific about the GS series III, especially in hybrid form. There is a complicated transmission compared to other hybrids which has caused a few problems, but easily fixed. The battery implementation has resulted in a higher number of failures compared to other Toyota hybrids. On these forums the number of reported failures is easily into double figures, when I can only recall a couple of 400h hybrid battery issues - that in itself may not mean too much but given that the 400h outsold the GS450h 5 to 1 there is a big discrepancy. I see less Gen2 Prius hybrid battery issues reported on TOC than GS450h issues reported here on LOC, and they outsold the GS around 15 to 1.
  25. The following are from a couple of different Lexus repair manuals - the different laws in each country govern to some extent what is or isn't acceptable.
