  1. All grades now have LED lights. The F Sport and Premier get triple LED headlights with automatic high beam.
  2. not that it is the best way to test it - a scope looking at the waveform would determine if it is functioning correctly.
  3. Based on the new economy measurement system (WLTP), the NX is rated at 35 to 40 combined mpg - depending on the grade. These figures seem to be accurate to what owners achieve. A diesel will have better economy at higher speed (e.g. motorway) and the hybrid the opposite.
  4. The new engine and hybrid system provide a signifiant improvement in mpg. The WLTP combined figures are 53 to 59 mpg (grade dependant). New WLTP figures for the NX are 35.5 to 40 mpg, and for the IS are 44 to 50. Based on those figures I have confidence that the ES figures can be seen as something to expect in the real world. The systems are all next generation. Toyota make a point in their press releases that collision avoidance, road sign recognition, ACC etc are all improved. Your experience seems to confirm this.
  5. Vehicle has to be in 'Ready' for it to charge the 12v aux battery. It will go flat if the vehicle is left for a long period, and that period is typically shorter than for a normal car as that 12v battery has a smaller capacity. Two to three weeks isn't an issue if the battery itself is in good condition.
  6. Maybe take a look at the new Camry once it becomes available. It doesn't solve the size issue but the seats fold and is expected to be slightly cheaper than its Lexus sister so you should be able to get under £40k. Tech spec will probably be better than the Lexus, just with less quality materials but on a par with Mazda. Infotainment system is still the issue, will have to wait and see what the new Toyota system is like, obviously very similar to Lexus with some differences between the two.
  7. Ignore me, I've checked and the GS uses a fixed calliper design with pistons on either side of the disc - unlike a floating design that uses slide pins on the majority of Lexus vehicles.
  8. Not the car, but the 3S-GTE engine is great - had the same unit in a 1994 MR2 Turbo.
  9. It also has the benefit of stopping the seals sticking so you can open your doors in freezing weather. Just don't use too much and avoid rubbing against the seals with your clothes.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised to see it added on a yearly update or major facelift in the future. I doubt they would, or even technically could, retrospectively add it to existing vehicles with a software update but that is a possibility.
  11. There is no 'issue'. Toyota could easily of integrated that feature, but they have chosen not to. They talk about wanting to be in control of the user experience, rather than Apple, Google or Amazon, but fail to realise their product becomes further and further behind state of the art. They wish to cling to a business model of charging £2k for an infotainment system, and having majority ownership of Denso and Aisin, who make major parts of those systems, are doubly affected by moving away from such a model. They have relented in the US, I'm guessing because Apple has a greater presence there and CarPlay is an option on all their competitors vehicles, but not in Europe - which use different infotainment systems. I think they have misjudged the market. There are many people who now would choose their vehicle to suit their phone and lifestyle, rather than the other way around of old and they will lose marketshare because of their decisions.
  12. If this wasn't an RX then I'd suspect a previous owner had roof bars installed which clip around the frame and press against the seals, distorting them. However your RX should have rails and therefore wouldn't have had that type of roof bar installed.
  13. Yes, there is a sensor on each wheel hub. However you need to get the error(s) codes read, there are many different faults that will illuminate the VSC light - the codes will help narrow down the problem.
  14. Was it replaced with a Toyota or Denso OEM part? Third party sensors don't always work too well.
  15. Not quite as bad, 118/119 mph for the RC/GS 300h, and strangely 125 mph for the IS 300h. It is the front wheel drive hybrids that have 111/112 mph top speeds.
  16. normally clunks when braking are pads moving slightly in the callipers and is most apparent when changing direction (forward to reverse, or reserve to forward). If all the clips are in place and the pads are OEM then it could be sticking slide pins (or a bushing missing on the pin). The mechanical brakes are essentially the same design on petrol or hybrid vehicles - being a hybrid isn't the reason for the noise.
  17. European models are all made in Japan. NA vehicles are made in Canada. I don't believe there are any quality issues due to the country the plant is located in.
  18. I never really used the auto high beam on my IS because it is too slow, incorrectly reacts to road signs etc. but the Adaptive High-Beam System on the GS works well for me. I can travel behind someone on full beam with their vehicle shuttered so it doesn't annoy them but with the roadside on the left and the on-coming lanes all lit up, and then just the right side dips if an on-coming vehicle approaches.
  19. It will operate in the same way as a Prius. If the engine is cold it will almost immediately start up and run until warm unless you press the EV button to force it to remain off - allowing you to move you car off the driveway for example. The engine is louder than a Prius, but they don't really have a quite engine either. From what you are describing I'd say it is normal.
  20. Unlike many German vehicles, Toyota will not install equipment that isn't used. Not even the wiring to the camera would be in the wiring loom if the camera wasn't fitted.
  21. What type of noise is it? The engine can be a little rattly on startup and the high pressure fuel injectors can be noisy too.
  22. I averaged 31 mpg in my 400h. It's the wrong time of year to be getting the best mpg figures in a hybrid. Once the weather improves so should your mpg, and it takes a few months to learn how to be more economical with a hybrid.
