    Hi Engine issues aren't common, but then again the GS300 isn't a common car. The issues with direct injection will cause carbon build up on the inlet valves leading to poor idling and high oil consumption - it won't cause an engine failure. If possible check for cold startup engine rattle but check out other potential problem areas such as worn suspension and steering.

    Seems to be the case for the petrol version but looks like the diesels all have the same - this certainly indicates there are at least three different rack assemblies.

    unfortunately those numbers appears to be OEM part codes. Are there any Toyota part codes - something like 44200-53120?

    Closest thing to the series I GS in the UK is the Toyota Supra but that has uprated suspension. You can try is the Japanese Toyota Aristo which is essentially what the GS is - but firmness may be different, and the Toyota Crown which shares suspension parts with the Aristo. Probably best to source from the US - e.g. rockauto.com, but again be careful of different suspension setup between territories.

    Unless you are willing to change all the brakes, rims smaller than 19" won't fit.

    Unless there is something weird about the NX Nav, BT provides all services - it just provides Internet access the same as wifi. Live traffic updates, Street View and other apps via BT worked on my old IS, it works on my current GS and it works on my wife's Prius. Connected services is flakey at best so maybe it was coincidence that is wasn't working when you tried BT? If you have an iPhone, or any other type of smartphone, I cannot understand why you would want to use the slow, poorly navigated implementation of Street View on the Lexus Nav system - so much easier and faster directly on a phone.

    Use bluetooth for personal hotspot, that way it doesn't cause any noticeable impact to the battery when devices aren't actively connected to it and you can use WiFi in the normal way.

    really just a myth. Conventional oil can clog a small gap, which when 'washed' away with synthetic oil will start to leak, but that relies on there being a faulty seal in the first place that would have leaked a bit before the conventional oil clogged in the first place. As you state, use the correct viscosity and you will be fine.

    Why set up your phone every time you go out? You set it up once on your iPhone and the car automatically connects to it each time you turn it on.

    less than 12v means the battery is less than 40% charged. Given the deep discharges the battery has had it probably needs to be replaced once you resolve the parasitic load issue.

    The engine will kick in and drive the motor generator, which will produce electrical power for the motor to use. The engine doesn't drive the wheels directly in reverse.

    I've seen this before. It is could be caused by a sensor leaking oil, and the oil travelling along the wiring loom to the injector connectors. Or someone spilling oil on the loom during an oil change.

    There are typically two sensors, one for AC and one for the auto lights.

    Reverse is achieved by electric motors only and is limited on all Toyota/Lexus hybrids.

    LOL. No I assume they see the risk of being stuck in your vehicle in an accident as low compared to having your doors unlocked driving around Johannesburg.

    Direct Line seem to be cheap for insuring GS F, I ended up with a cheaper premium compared to my IS300h. Possibly they haven't had a claim against one so haven't put it in a higher risk category? It did come conditionally with a very high excess though.

    Lexus have played with allowing or removing this feature over the years in Europe even when available in other markets on safety grounds. They are also inconsistent across different models, some having it and others not. The early series IV GSs don't allow it, but was reintroduced on the face-lift models. It isn't just removed from being a user accessible setting, it is removed from the body software, so cannot be enabled with Techstream or Carista etc.

    If the SE has the Nav option then yes. This is just phone connectivity though, no streaming music.

    There is a TSB in the UK on the RC F to get the pads replaced with ones that don't squeak. CP-0027L-0416. Go to a different dealer if they aren't helpful or incompetent to find it. Unfortunately for me the GS F isn't included, even though it has the exact brake system as the RC F and suffers the same problem 😞 CP-0027L-0416_IR.pdf

    If you cannot leave the vehicle for two weeks or less without the battery going flat then replace it as it has lost capacity, which only gets worse each time you flatten it. If you regularly leave your vehicle for more than two weeks then consider fitting a larger battery, or get a solar charger to help out. If you only make short journeys then you aux battery may never get fully charged so worth giving it a charge before you leave it for a long period. Check your insurance policy before you leave it with a disconnected battery/no alarm.

    The IS is very good in its class for comfort and refinement, but it is no LS. Your expectations may be very different from traditional IS owners and therefore I'd advise you test drive one or two - ideally a 24 hour test drive from Lexus.
