  1. Not way, the auto on the IS200 isn't great with it only being a 4 speed. Here are some things to look for:
  2. The base models don't have a separate amp, just an integrated one in the headunit. What model of IS200 do you have? It is common for the stereo to be replaced - the CD player tends to break on the original ones.
  3. Whilst less that the head bolts, on this engine it is still significant, 35 Nm and then turn a further 90 deg. Weirdly, whilst they specify not to reuse the cam bolts, they do allow the head bolts to be reused.
  4. I think the idea is that the noise and time it takes to first get through the guard before having the cat accessible means they would just target another vehicle. If the vehicle was parked in a secluded area then nothing is going to stop them.

  6. 😃 But they only cost £1 each and you could access them without dismantling half the engine 🙂
  7. They don't really detail what they do but I'd assume they check the voltages are within a certain % of each other, they check the engine/hybrid system cuts in/out as expected and they run up the hybrid battery cooling fans to make sure they are working correctly. Toyota have faith in their battery packs so they aren't going to provide cycle count / remaining life etc - they provide a warranty up to 14 years provided you continue to get health checks.
  8. They can develop so you are right to touch them up. Most stone chips don't get all the way to the metal but they are worth touching up too.
  9. I guess really all you can look for is pending/current and historic error codes. You can also see the voltage of each module within the battery pack - to make sure they are all close to each other but you cannot easily load the batteries to do a proper check. If you get one with full Lexus service history then if should have a current warranty on the battery as part of the hybrid health check so possibly not worth worrying about the battery too much.
  10. Talk about chalk and cheese. The Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon (UK name for the LC 100 and 200 series) are rare in the UK and possibly a little too big for our roads and parking spaces. Have you considered the 120 / 150 series, although engine choice isn't great and the V6 petrol is extremely rare in the UK. In terms of running costs I think the Amazon and IS-F would be quite similar, possibly a bit cheaper on the IS as you don't have a transfer box to check/change oil. I imagine insurance would be cheaper for the LC, but you can never tell what vehicles insurances companies are going to load up so you would have to get quotes for both to determine that.
  11. Not a fan of the colour, hopefully looks better in the flesh. I like the way the dealer has tried to make the boot look usable. Reality is, it is tiny.
  12. They tend to be microwave sensors rather than the older ultrasonic type so tape won't help. But again, comes down to what you are trying to achieve, turning something off then alters the standard parasitic state.
  13. Why would you single out Apple when nearly every other tech company uses the same two or three assembly companies that employ the workers?
  14. Techstream isn't going to help you with a clogged EGR, there won't be an error code generated. Just test at least a couple of different vehicles so you know what the engine is normally like and avoid any that are violently shaking. Also check the mpg history to see if it is low, or has been getting worse over time.
  15. Yes, if the valve is the same. Just go slowly as the amount of air is obviously much less than a car tyre. What type of bicycle is it? Normal road bike should be around 50 to 60 PSI, and a mountain bike around 40 PSI. A road racing bike is normally around 90 PSI but that wouldn't have a car (Schrader) valve. There is normally a max. pressure rating written on the side wall of the tyre.
  16. Yes, similar to the IS in that regard - the premium Nav option includes a premium audio system. 🙂
  17. I guess it depends what you are trying to achieve. Some Lexus vehicles have the door sensor built into the door lock mechanism which is difficult to trigger. If your door is open you won't want to set the alarm, certainly not the motion sensor, so you won't get an accurate measurement of the normal parasitic load.
  18. Why is there a need to know? You have electric motors driving front and rear wheels on the RX so you have better traction than using the IC engine which can only drive the front wheels. When reversing the IC engine may run, as if there isn't sufficient capacity in the hybrid battery the engine is used to turn the generator which supplies the electricity for the motors. If you were getting wheel spin then the noise is probably the traction control stopping/starting. It isn't good for the transmission to run unloaded so the hybrids have an aggressive traction control, in either forward or reverse.
  19. Here you go: RC Tech Spec and equipment 2016:17.pdf
  20. It has been a while since I owned my 400h so cannot remember but on newer hybrids if you unlock the door the brake booster pump may start so the vehicle is most certainly woken up before even opening the door. Full sleep mode is normally achieve within 10 minutes but it doesn't seem to be documented so best to assume 20 minutes to be safe.
  21. Not on new V8s though, even Lexus ones. The fuel injectors and pumps are too noisy on modern direct injection engines 😞
  22. Manufacturers are forced to make available repair procedures and test equipment to the auto industry, and specifications to parts manufacturers so they can make matching quality alternative parts. At some point, if not already, Tesla will fall foul of these legalisations, or the legalisations will get updated to remove any loopholes that they currently may be making use of. Warranties cannot be voided just because their dealers haven't done certain work or third party parts have been used - only if the work or parts have directly contributed to the fault being looked at under warranty. I'm not sure the manufacturers are forced to make their OEM parts available to sales in the trade - almost all manufacturers do though, otherwise they would lose more revenue to the alternative parts industry. Market forces will come to play here, if Tesla don't make their parts available then the value of used vehicle will fall too far as it would be too expensive to keep them running - that would have a knock on affect of valuations on younger vehicles too so Telsa will be forced to react. At the moment they have a unique offering and people are prepared to pay over the normal industry value for their vehicles, in a year or two there will be a lot of choice in the EV market.
