Original part code for the water pump 16100-39435 was superseded with 16100-39436 so something changed, but may not be due to reliability. Having said that, I'm not hearing too many people complain of having had two failed pumps during the vehicles lifetime so maybe it has been improved. You would normally expect a water pump to last around 80k to 120k miles.

Cat theft.. insurance and residual value effects
ColinBarber replied to MadJam250's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
It would still have a cat because the primary cat by the manifold is still there. But altering a vehicle's emissions could be breaking the law and you from an insurance point of view it should be declared as a modification. -
You aren't in EV mode. Driver forced EV mode is limited to around 25 to 30 mph (lower when cold). The petrol engine being turned off by the hybrid system isn't EV mode, that, for want of a term is EV in operation which can happen up to around 55 mph on the NX. Vehicles with a newer generation of hybrid system will allow higher speeds, around 70 mph.

Is the Lexus brand quality still there?
ColinBarber replied to paulrnx's topic in Lexus General Discussions
It absolutely is the case, or certainly was. Look at a 2010 Auris hybrid compared to a CT. The CT has higher quality, softer touch materials, improved NVH, better specifications where certain options just aren't available on the Toyota, and it is assembled in a plant which has higher quality control standards for paint finish and panel gaps etc. Where the CT has fallen away is that it is essentially the same vehicle now as it was when launched whereas the Toyota went though a complete redesign with the later Auris and now again with the Corolla - each time improving. Reliability is the same - the vehicles underneath are the same. Differences between the two in surveys are normally down to statistical insignificance due to sample size. -
Is the Lexus brand quality still there?
ColinBarber replied to paulrnx's topic in Lexus General Discussions
All Lexus vehicles sold in Europe have always been built in Japan. -
same thing isn't it? I don't think there has been a major change to the design, unlike the RX400h one.

Is the Lexus brand quality still there?
ColinBarber replied to paulrnx's topic in Lexus General Discussions
No, it is a reflection that the competition (BMW, MB, Audi, Jag etc.) in this country only provide 3 years. -

Battery
ColinBarber replied to messi's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
People have mixed results on claiming against a battery warranty whatever the manufacturer. The only cover manufacturing faults which are rare; most failures, especially in the last year, are due to lack of use/discharged state and are therefore not covered. Best to find a good retailer that will swap out a failed battery almost no questions asked and let them take it up with the manufacturer. If you have to claim directly then you are going to struggle. Most have warranty T&Cs close to this: Warranty Coverage Batteries sold are sold with a warranty against premature failure due to manufacturing or material defects only. Due to the high quality of standards of the technical and manufacturing, the number of batteries that fail due to manufacturing defects is negligible. Battery problems that ARE covered as a manufacturing fault. ● Short circuit / Dead Cell. ● Internal Break – unless caused by the battery being dropped or damaged by the customer. ● Premature failure due to manufacturing or material defect. Battery problems that ARE NOT covered by the manufacturing warranty ● Physical Damage ● Sulphation ● Wear and Tear ● Deep Cycling / Over discharging ● Over charging ● Under charging ● Incorrect Application -
You really shouldn't do that. You have the risk (however small) of carbon monoxide poisoning if exhaust gases aren't exiting the vehicle safely and get into the cabin.

The base grade doesn't have leather as standard, It has the Tahara synthetic leather. You need the 'premium pack plus' (premium pack and leather) option pack to get real leather. All F Sports and Takumi grades have leather as standard and there is no premium pack for the F Sport, the only option is the Takumi pack.

Quite possible. Certainly worth checking the bottom of the boot well for any water in case it is more serious than just moisture.

I would imagine it would fit as normally the luggage box clamps aren't bespoke to a single rail design and can accommodate different width/thicknesses of rail. Thule make the Lexus rails. https://www.roofracks.co.uk/thule-fit-guide/794 option c seem closest to the Lexus OEM product but isn't the same - OEM seems to use Thule AeroBar design, does your box support that bar type? https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/4022819189

Hood airbag collision sensor
ColinBarber replied to In_a_state's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
To answer the question, I imagine the two pressure sensors are continuously being monitored by the system and therefore disconnecting them will activate a warning (MOT failure). Probably a better way would be to disconnect the actuators, but I don't know if the system can determine if they are plugged in or not, if yes then you would also get a warning. However I wouldn't advise touching a safety system on the vehicle. Your 'fee' would be a lot more if a pedestrian suffered head trauma and your insurance was invalidated because you have altered the vehicle and not told them. -
sounds like the nav unit isn't receiving the camera signal, either wiring or faulty camera. I'd check wiring from camera in the tailgate which connects to the camera ECU on the RHD of the boot and then into the Nav unit in the floor of the boot but I suspect the camera itself has failed.

If the screen is similar to the LS430 one then it would be difficult to replace just the backlight - they aren't really designed to be taken apart and you can end up with dust/fingerprints on the diffusers which will be visible on the display. Chances of finding CFLs that are the same spec are slim now too. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1279497052.html

Gsf warranty
ColinBarber replied to Gsf grey solihull's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Which is here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/warranty/extended-warranty/ but note currently it displays 2020 pricing. Lexus revise pricing every calendar year but they haven't updated the site yet so pricing is submit to imminent change. -
12v Battery replacement
ColinBarber replied to Bluethunder's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Sulfation occurs because a battery isn't fully charged, not because it hasn't supplied high current. It occurs more commonly on hybrids because the 12v battery is of low capacity (because a high capacity battery isn't required to start the engine) and therefore discharges more quickly when the vehicle is left unattended for several days/weeks. If you deep cycle the battery it starts to sulfate, which lowers its capacity, meaning it is easier to deep discharge the next time it is left so you end up in a vicious circle ending in a battery that cannot hold a charge and needs replacing. AGM batteries are able to be discharged to a higher amount before sulfation occurs so it helps but they are not immune. The main reason an AGM battery is fitted to the IS300h is because the battery is within the boot which isn't sealed from the cabin. In an accident the battery could be compromised and acid able to come into contact with passengers. AGM batteries hold the acid within a fibreglass mesh and doesn't leak. On my old RX400h I replaced the original battery when it was nine years old. The 400h uses a conventional flooded battery so they won't necessarily die after a couple of years - it is dependant on how it is used/abused. -
Anyone removed this bit of trim?

I think this is the part. Lots of clips along the top edge, cannot see the sides very well but look clipped in too. https://autoparts.beforward.jp/detail/Body-Parts/Radiator-Grilles/PA09605201/ -
Gsf warranty
ColinBarber replied to Gsf grey solihull's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
If you have an extended warranty then it is part of the price so doesn't make any sense not to go to a dealer, and if there is a fault covered by the warranty then they would fix it there and then or give you a courtesy car until the work is done. If you don't have a warranty then no, no benefit. -
Gsf warranty

Yes, although Lexus haven't confirm 2021 warranty pricing yet (but if it changes then it is only going up).
