  1. The hybrid battery is air cooled on the 450h, there is no coolant. Inverter coolant is as Herbie described.
  2. Agreed but I assumed Keith was referring to differences between years of the series IV, not between the series III and series IV as those differences are numerous.
  3. There were no engine/drivetrain changes on the series IV RX between MY16 and MY17. In fact the only material change on the 2017 (built from Aug/Sept 2016) over the launch specification was an automated braking function added to the Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Intelligent Parking Sensors system.
  4. Dealers can be inconsistent but some would write no plugs on the service book for that service. The invoice would probably state the same or show a 20/40k service was carried out rather than 60k (if there is nothing else special about 60k (cannot remember)).
  5. No, spark plugs are an exception to mileage or age. They don't degrade with time, only use. Same for all Toyota vehicles.
  6. Yes you have a series II. In the UK the Series I was 2000 to 2003, series II 2003 to 2009, series III 2019 to 2016 and series IV 2016+. The 400h was only available as a series II, it changed to the 450h with series III. Certainly check the boot carefully and also look in the rear lights to see if any water is in the bottom of them.
  7. It's all a bit inconsistent actually. The series I RX all had a touch screen as standard, whether you had nav or not - if you pressed the Nav button it would just come up on the screen that Nav module cannot be found. But on the series II they used the two different approaches - the smaller LCD for non-nav vehicles and the bigger LCD touch screen for vehicles fitted with Nav.
  8. Plug schedule is every 60k miles - no time period. Therefore request the plugs aren't changed and get a discount from the standard 60k service price.
  9. No, same as the 300 - only standard on the SE-L and option on SE. Nav and reversing camera come together, you cannot have one without the other.

  11. Technically yes but I've seen sports with weird combinations of spec. They come out of the factory as SE grades and are covered to Sports in the UK on import so maybe the original owners had some ability to accept some 'upgrades' and not others. My wife's old sport didn't have rear tinted windows or the Sport logo on the rear quarter glass for example. Nor did it have the two-tone steering wheel but it did have the sports grille, rear spoiler, aluminium pedals, lowered suspension and LSD.

If you were to get the vehicle repaired (with a genuine Lexus part) and take out a warranty then the bearing would be covered if it were to fail again in the future provided you haven't damaged it via a damaged or incorrectly sized wheel/tyre. That would be at Lexus GB's discretion - and you could claim that it started to fail within the warranty period.
  14. yeah heat shield. Either fit back on with large washers or needs to be replaced. Even if replaced it would make sense to have large washers to reduce the chances of it breaking away again.
  15. That is for conventional stop/start vehicles where the 12v battery is being cycled heavily due to continuous starting and then recharging either via alternator or some form of energy recovery. Most start/stop vehicles use an AGM battery because of this. It is irrelevant for a Toyota hybrid, 12v battery has no part to play in the starting of the petrol engine or energy recovery/recharge because the hybrid traction battery is the energy store.

  17. It will start. The immobiliser will detect the key in the ignition to allow it to start. The alarm and immobiliser are essentially separate systems.
  18. I believe there is a setting to remember the password or not although from your description it appears to be a per-device setting rather then a generic one which is what I thought it was. Go through the settings and check that. Otherwise I could only suggest removing the phone and re-add. Personally I use bluetooth connectivity rather than wifi for Internet access, I've always found it more reliable.
  19. Did the 450h move to AGM because of better cycling capabilities, which does get tested on a small capacity battery when owners go on holiday for two+ weeks, or because it moved into the boot? Toyota seem to state both a reasons. The 400h never really had a problem of the battery going flat as it had a relatively large battery, so the fact it was wet wasn't an issue. Like you I would probably put in a wet battery. The new ES300h has a wet battery in the boot (which isn't sealed from the cabin) so it seems Toyota don't think it is an issue now either.
  20. It was inaccurate EU economy standards that give a false reading, not misrepresentation from Lexus. The figure quoted was the lower grade model too, the Premier would be worse due to larger, heavier wheels. The newer WLTP testing method seems much more accurate, especially for hybrids. The current RX has mpg of 35.3. Given the current generation is around 10% better than previous then it puts your model around 32 mpg which is probably about right - although you may not get there in winter. When I had a 450h as a courtesy car when my 400h was in for a service I seemed to get around 3 mpg more on a similar journey.

However you don't want to be in the situation where you need to use it. At that point you are deep cycling your battery and it will deteriorate each time you do it. You need to periodically charge it long before the voltage drops to the point where you cannot operate the vehicle. Ideally an intelligent trickle charger permanently connected but otherwise connect a charger at least once a week, or put the vehicle in Ready mode for 30+ mins at least once a week.
  23. The cat is part of the front exhaust section, it isn't sold on its own. The joint between front and middle sections I believe is quite close to the cat, it may be possible that the middle section is therefore damaged which I suspect is around £ 400+ to replace.
  24. I don't think Toyota sell 0W-40 so they won't have it on their recommended list 😉
