  1. it's the acceleration position sensor rather than the TPS - both are on the throttle body. Probably worn out or physically broken where the throttle cable mechanism attaches.
  2. The front brakes are hydraulically connected to the brake pedal. When the system is working correctly, when you press the brake pedal, valves close to stop the direct connectivity and therefore braking is achieved only 'by-wire'. If there is a failure, or the vehicle is turned off, the valves remain open so you have the ability to brake on the front (without servo assistance). You therefore can technically partially bleed the front brakes in a conventional sense BUT YOU SHOULD NOT DO THIS. You wouldn't be refreshing the fluid that is in the 'by-wire' part of the system and the rear brakes don't have the direct connection at all. You need Techsteam, the Toyota held-hand or another diagnostic tool that can disable the electronic braking system and open/close the many valves so you can replace all the fluid and correctly bleed the system.

These cars are robust and therefore can probably take missing a service or two without a long term issue but it implies a lack of care and attention from the owner which would put me off - it should have had 12 services. Maybe it had the major services done at the dealer and the owner just did the oil change minor service themselves. Is there any explanation why so many services have been missed?
  5. Yes and I very much doubt that would be a stock item anyway. Probably not even stocked centrally in the UK or Europe and is coming from Japan. But I'm sure if you ring up a dealer and say you want the motor assembly replaced they are more than happy to take your money without any diagnostics, but no if the problem isn't resolved they aren't going to refund you. If anyone has a faulty device that generated a u0230 code them I'm more than happy to try and fault find the problem if they send it to me - if the device isn't communicating on the bus then I should be able to see no activity on the CAN bus with a scope when it is powered up and can temperature test each component and reflow the solder.
  6. No, you are fine with the radio but you would need to set the clock, reinitialise the auto function of the electric windows, power backdoor and sunroof if you have them - and possibly set the radio presets again (cannot remember if those are retained or not).
  7. I assume there has to be a benefit to insurers otherwise they wouldn't continue to provide discounts. Maybe their saving is just in a paying out for a partial loss rather than a full one. A colleague received an alert once informing him his vehicle was speeding. Turns out someone from his dealership was driving his X5 at 110 mph on the road test - he got a free service as a result so there are other benefits 🙂
  8. A mountain to climb for sure but I think it would be foolish to dismiss it outright. There are a large number of homes that have driveways and therefore can easily charge at home. Some councils are now putting in channels in the pavement to allow a flex to be run out to a parking space outside your property if you don't have a driveway and those people in skyscrapers in the middle of towns will probably be pressured by environmentalists not to have a vehicle at all in the future. I imagine that many people who purchase an EV will look into solar panels for their home. If enough people do that then it eases the centralised infrastructure (power stations). People are clearly going to be working from home more than in the past, internet shopping, grocery home delivery etc. all reduce the number of miles people are doing in their vehicles and therefore energy requirements, per vehicle, will reduce. For those that cannot charge at home I'd expect to see a large number of charging stations spring up at offices, supermarkets, cinemas, shopping centres - so you get your weekly charge whilst you are occupied doing other things. I know of a company that is trialling a few hundred new charging stations, but with plans to install 70,000. There will be multiple companies like this.

Yes, although if your vehicle is out of warranty (either initial manufacture's warranty (which at 4 years old it would be) or extended) then the dealer may want to charge you for an inspection to be confidence there is no pre-existing fault. Most dealers will waive the fee if you are getting a service done as that would be regarded as an inspection anyway.
  11. You are likely to blow the main fuses (100+ Amp ones) which will stop everything working.
  12. It's listed on the Lexus website. I doubt there is a vehicle sold in the UK that doesn't have an immobiliser - it would get such a poor insurance rating. The NX has a Thatcham approved Cat 1 security system - which means it has an alarm and immobiliser. As has every Lexus sold in the UK since 1995.
  13. I'm not aware of Lexus doing anything to address relay attacks yet. I don't believe they use motion sensing keys on any vehicle.

Sure, but even if you only travel in the UK it is personal cover for two people, home start and onward travel which Lexus would charge £125 per annum if you purchased it separately and would cost more directly from the AA (before no claims discount). You do have to consider the total cost though as Lexus dealer servicing is expensive which you need to use to maintain the warranty. They seem to reduce the cost of the warranty but add it on to the servicing costs compared to other manufacturers.
  15. I think there is a 30A fuse in the engine fuse box labelled RDI Fan. There is a relay too which would need to be considered if the fan doesn't work. Easiest way to test the fan is to disconnect the connector to temperature sensor on the bottom of the radiator and short the two pins together on the connector - the fan should come on (make sure you are well clear of the fan blades).
  16. Certainly better spec'd than an IS - multi-adjustable seats, HUD, 360 deg monitor, heated rear seats, power boot etc.
  17. Lexus will only sort out a battery issue. Not a hybrid transmission, inverter, electric motor or control issue.
  18. It is when you consider that includes two MOTs and full European breakdown cover for two people.
  19. The vehicle sends out a signal every few seconds. If the key hears it then it responses with its id / rolling code. If the key were transmitting all the time then we would need to change the battery every few weeks or have key fobs the size of mobile phones.
  20. It's pretty easy to test. Take you box, with the key inside, to the vehicle and see if it will unlock.
  21. The outcome is the same but it is the vehicle that is constantly transmitting, the key is just listening and responds when it hears the vehicle.
  22. 4 wheel alignment check is part of the standard major service (every 20k). If adjustments are needed then there is a charge. What is most disappointing is that many dealers don't have the facilities to do this yet the fixed price servicing means all dealers charge the same. So some people get a full geometry printout when their car goes in for a service, and my local two dealers state we just look at the tyres and let you know if there is uneven wear 🤬
