Lexus Relax (10 year/100,000 mile warranty)
ColinBarber replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus General Discussions
You get warranty from the date you have a service, provided that service was conducted 1/6/21 onwards. The whole purpose is to get people servicing their vehicles at Lexus dealers, which is where they make their money (aside from selling finance products). For the majority of people warranty expiration and servicing coincide as most people do less than 10k miles a year and so service at 12 month intervals. It does represent a problem for people where this is out of sync though with no solution other than getting an additional service 😞 -
I don't think you can get Relax cover retrospectively, so you would only be covered on a service on/after 1/6/21. Therefore you would only want to cancel the extended warranty at your next service. The Lexus roadside assistance is £125 per year if you were to purchase separately. The extended warranty T&Cs seems better than Relax, but that also depends on your specific T&Cs as the wording is often updated and things that were previously covered are no longer - so there may not be that much difference.

Lexus Relax (10 year/100,000 mile warranty)
ColinBarber replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus General Discussions
That's a manufacturer's warranty. By law they cannot force servicing at an authorised dealer. The same thing with Toyota's 5 year warranty and Lexus' 3 year warranty. Relax is essentially an extended warranty and isn't bound to the same legal requirements. Yes you will pay more for a service at a main dealer but you had to do the same thing before and also pay for an extended warranty. Think of it as a £150 per year warranty; the extra price you would pay for a service at Lexus vs an independent - that still represents good value. -
It's been part of a major service for some time although many dealers don't have the equipment to perform the check (yet don't give you a service discount because all the work isn't being done). It's a way for a dealer to make money if work needs doing, and I'm sure many people will accept rather than going to the trouble of booking in alignment elsewhere, but you don't have to accept their offer. I'd certainly like to think that they aren't 'accidentally' leaning on the wheel as they take a reading to make an extra sale, in the same way that I trust them to actually change the brake fluid when they have said they would etc. Obviously Lexus GB and the police would be interested in any fraudulent activities should there be any evidence of that.

Unlocking car
ColinBarber replied to Marleez's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Reaching I think but who knows. Keep an eye on it. Even if you had someone managed to accidentally change the opening operation to driver's door only that wouldn't explain multiple hazard light flashing - you should only get two for unlock, more indicates a fault condition. -

Lexus Relax (10 year/100,000 mile warranty)

It's the one question they don't address in their FAQ - they don't seem to acknowledge the previous extended warranties. I'd be 99% certain that if asked Lexus will state you need to get your vehicle serviced at the point of your existing warranty expiry so that you can be enrolled into Relax. Either get the cheapest minor service done or bring forward your next service. It's going to be cheaper than taking out a warranty so I don't see Lexus giving you cover until your service is actually due. You won't be automatically covered as only vehicles that are serviced after 1/6/21 get Relax cover. There isn't breakdown cover as part of Relax - the actual recovery, hotel expenses etc. can be taken out for £125 per year as a separate product. https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/roadside-assistance/ -
Unlocking car

Do you get the same if you unlock wirelessly and with the interior lock/unlock buttons? What happens if you try and unlock via the passenger door handle? Try disconnecting the battery for 3 mins to reset everything - sometimes a low battery voltage upsets the door locking control system. Otherwise, based on similar issues in the states, it is possibly a problem with a fusebox/control module. -

Chips Away or 'proper' body shop?
ColinBarber replied to Herbie's topic in Lexus Car Care & Detailing
Yeah I doubt you would have a good result with a sonic paint. Not sure chips away would do an invisible repair either. The 5 coat paint process is difficult to replicate with a 1 or 2 pack paint - it just doesn't reflect the same in different light conditions. -
Lexus Essential Care Servicing Discontinued?
ColinBarber replied to wookee's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
Headlights are covered, except for physical damage, just not the bulbs. If your ballast or positioning motor failed, condensation not due to physical damage etc. then it would be replaced under extended warranty, as would an LED module as it isn't a normal replaceable consumable bulb. Now the wording implies lights won't be covered, only headlamp lift motors (is that popup headlight motors or levelling/swivel motors?). -
Lexus Essential Care Servicing Discontinued?
ColinBarber replied to wookee's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
No not at all. In fact they are much worse than the Extended warranty which itself isn't as good as the Manufacturer warranty. Looking at what is included/excluded I assume they will still sell the extended warranty for those who want better cover. -

Cost is more though as you paying at least £200 per service more by having to use Lexus than you could get at an independent using the same genuine parts. -
Rear dvd sceens
ColinBarber replied to Lee c's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
That's the older system. I believe the OP has this newer system (either way they don't integrate to the infotainment system of the vehicle): -
As Brian stated, it makes no difference if the offset and spoke design clears the calliper. 17" wheels are fitted to the ES as standard on the base grade so certain designs of 17" rims will fit. If you are unsure then go with an 18" which would be more expensive but more of a guarantee that it would fit. Once you decide on a rim you just need to get the correct tyre size to match the circumference of your existing wheels.
-
Sorry but who told you that rubbish? The tyre ideally needs to be the same circumference and the main wheel to avoid the vehicle leaning, but some are just close rather than exact. The only important thing about rim size is that it needs to clear the brake calliper - other than that it doesn't matter, you just fit a tyre of the size to make the total circumference correct. That's why the current RX which comes with 20" wheels can have an 18" space saver.

Rear dvd sceens
ColinBarber replied to Lee c's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Unfortunately the rear ICE system is completely independent to the audio/infotainment system in the vehicle. It is actually fitted once the vehicle arrives in the UK rather than a factory installed system. Those rear screens possibly have an aux video input but I don't think there is a video out on the main system and as Herbie has stated, it won't play video unless the transmission is in park. You could probably get an audio out from one of the rear DVD player screens and install an aux in on the main stereo system so the sound comes through the vehicle's speakers, but that cannot be achieved as standard and would need a third party module to be installed. -

All series II RXs suffer with underbody corrosion - obviously the older the vehicle the worse it is likely to be unless it has been treated. Corrosion on the brake lines is not good though. Is it an SE-L? It should have air suspension so make sure that works or check it has been converted to normal springs. Check all the warning lights on the dash come on and then go out to make sure no one has removed some bulbs to cover up an issue. -
LOL Lexus Park Lane is/was in Mayfair, it is the service centre that is in Battersea. Pre-launch (and possibly after) they were the only dealership to have an LFA on show in Europe:

Looks very nice, welcome back Peter 🙂

How hot does the engine get? Is the temp gauge a fraction below the mid point or higher? It's possible that a lean running engine will overheat the cats.

Manual IS200 Cruise Control Not Working
ColinBarber replied to Sluggo's topic in Engine & Transmission
What country is your vehicle from? I don't believe any manual Lexus IS200s had CC - not in Europe, US or Australia. Possibly an option in Japan on the Altezza but I think even then it was only on the auto transmissions. I'd therefore assume it is an aftermarket add-on?
