There have been a couple of members here that have revived them by drying them out and resealing them. Otherwise the easiest option is to find one on ebay/breakers. It would be nice to get something newer, say from an RX450h or Gen 3 Prius, as the low light performance is better on those cameras compared to the series II RX but you would have to be up for modifying it to physically and electrically fit so not straightforward.

I don't believe there are any common issues with the series IV GS450h. Certainly no common issues have been seen here. F Sport was a grade introduced with the series IV GS so I'm assuming we are talking about a 2012+ vehicle. In a straight-line maybe, but the F Sport with modified and adaptive suspension, 4-wheel steering, variable gear steering and lower profile tyres is the quicker vehicle when pushed around corners. The pre-facelift F Sport has different seats, steering wheel, aluminium trim inserts and aluminium pedals which all contribute to a more sporty interior look.

Ah okay, the MY2021 changes and the additional grade was actually announced and orderable back in Sept 2020 with vehicles arriving in November 2020. No grades in the UK come with a spare wheel, or an option to have one. In April the face lift model was annouced, which will be the MY2022 model: Lexus Reveals Revised ES Saloon 19 April 2021 ● World debut of revised Lexus ES saloon at the Shanghai Motor Show ● Focus on even quieter and more comfortable performance ● Driving feel enhanced with improvements to suspension and braking ● New design details, colours and trims ● Adoption of BladeScan Adaptive High-beam System and improvements and additions to Lexus Safety System+ functions ● Details of UK specifications and availability to be announced later in 2021 Lexus has today revealed its new ES executive saloon at the Shanghai Motor Show, ahead of its market launch later this year. The ES is a model renowned for its quiet, smooth performance and high levels of cabin comfort and spaciousness. The upcoming changes focus on strengthening these qualities, refreshing the car’s styling, improving ride and responsiveness and introducing new, technology-led equipment features. Although the ES has been part of the Lexus line-up since the brand was launched in 1989, it was first introduced to the UK and European markets in 2018. Powered by the fourth generation of Lexus’s self-charging hybrid electric system, it is an attractive competitor in the executive fleet market, not least for the high efficiency and refinement of its 2.5-litre powertrain. Lexus Chief Engineer Tetsuya Aoki commented: “Our goal was to deepen the high quality of the ES and to add new value. In addition to improving quietness and ride comfort, we pursued linearity in the way the vehicle moves in response to steering wheel operation, faithful to the driver’s intentions. When it comes to styling, we refined and modernised the elegance that characterises the ES. When people ride in the new ES, I hope they will notice the achievements of the development team, who closely adhered to the idea of ‘Always On’ With the aim of making ever-better cars.” Dynamic performance benefits from increased torsional rigidity in the rear trailing wishbone suspension, targeting more linear response to the driver’s inputs, for example in high-speed lane changes. Brake control and feedback have been enhanced with a reshaped pedal and measures to reduce vibration. The control parameters in the ES 300h’s electronic brake system have also been adjusted for better control. In the ES F Sport model, a new actuator has been introduced in the Adaptive Variable Suspension, together with redesigned internals to expand the range of damping force, improving ride comfort, steering response and stability. Styling details include an evolution of the spindle grille design, new-look headlights and new designs and finishes for the 17, 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels. Having pioneered new technology features with Lexus’ first digital side view monitors, the ES is now set to adopt the BladeScan Adaptive High-beam System, giving more accurate lighting control and wider forward illumination from the LED headlights. New sonic paint finishes, interior colours and walnut inlay options will be introduced and new upholstery shades and combinations will be available. The new ES will also adopt the latest Lexus Safety System+ active safety and driver assistance improvements, including Emergency Steering Assist and better lane recognition performance. The Pre-Collision Safety system will additionally detect pedestrians during night-time driving and bicycle riders during daylight and will provide Intersection Turn Assist to help guard against collisions with oncoming traffic, or with pedestrians crossing the vehicle’s path when making a turn at a junction. The new Lexus ES range will go on sale in the UK in late 2021. Details of specifications and prices will be announced nearer the time of introduction.

The facelift has only been announced. It doesn't go on sale until near the end of the year with deliveries probably starting in Jan/Feb 2022.

What size are they? The 18" ones are normally runflats - have you looked for the runflat symbol? I find they are very noisy - certainly the worst thing about my wife's UX.

You cannot, but you don't have to be the registered keeper to insure a vehicle (although it does limit your options as some companies will only insure the registered keeper).

The CT is more related to the Auris than the Prius but in the case of the battery then I think the Auris, Prius, Yaris and CT all use the same, although worth double checking as they do change parts over the years. Lexus don't state that before 1998 E10 will cause a problem - they just don't have the data, have no desire to research that far back or don't care about vehicles that old. There are lists in Australia that state all Lexus vehicles back to 1986 are ok with E10 bar a couple of exceptions, but the issue is that one of the exceptions is the IS200 which isn't a problem in Europe, so either there are component changes or the data isn't trustworthy. What we do know is that the majority of vehicles that are affected by E10 are carburettor based or early direct injection engines - neither of which related to the LS400. If there is an incompatibility then it is likely to be long term rather than a quick failure, and would ultimately result in a minor fuel leak - therefore you certainly need to be careful here and whilst super unleaded remains easily available then you probably should use it - but what do you do when it isn't, scrap your LS? Personally I'd use E10 and keep an eye on things - at that age of vehicle you are susceptible to fuel pipe and o-ring deterioration resulting in minor fuel leaks anyway, unrelated to E10. Regarding Lexus, I've personally received poor and downright incorrect advise from Lexus dealers and head office on multiple occasions, and so have many other here. Therefore I'd only trust information from them on this subject that can be traced back to engineering in Japan who are the only ones who know what materials and grades have been used in the components and whether they are going to have a problem with E10 - either Ethanol directly or the potential water content change that results, although the water issue is meant to be tightly controlled in Europe by the fuel suppliers and outlets.

Are you able to post a picture? The vent pipe should just pull out. The temp sensor depends what type it is, either there is an electrical connector which makes it easy to disconnect the wiring, or the wire just goes into a channel which is taped over, which you can remove and lift up the wiring - you need to be careful not to just pull on it otherwise you could break the wiring/sensor.

HUD for me. I could easily live without it, but I do believe it increases safety by not taking your eyes off the road. I quite like blind spot monitors as well - I certainly like them on other people's cars as they are less likely to pull out on me 🙂.

It's an older term that was more appropriate before in-built screens displayed video or allowed multiple source inputs such as iPod, bluetooth, USB etc. The challenge you have with the GS430 is that the climate control system is operated via the screen, without any physical buttons, so you cannot lose that functionality. So you need a unit that fits in place of the old system but has enough room to accommodate all the existing computer system, plus accepts the input of the old system so you can still operate the climate. I'm sure there are systems out there but I'm not aware of them. From a headunit point of view they are probably both Pioneer, although built to different price points - JBL/ML refers to the Amp/Speaker and placement design. Typically more money is spent on the Lexus systems, which is reflected in the price for the upgrade. Certainly there is no comparison between the JBL systems I've heard in Toyotas compared to the ML systems in Lexus vehicles, the ML systems are vastly more powerful and have greater clarity (although I've no experience with the CT's ML system).

Cat back or decat?

The car still retains its primary cats and would pass and MOT if the engine is hot, which it should be anyway. The secondaries are replaced with silencers so it would be impossible for a tester to know if they were cats or not so the MOT isn't an issue. It potentially is still illegal though: Unless you put the modified vehicle through the Euro emissions testing and it still came out in the same category then you won't know if you have altered it in such as way that is no longer complies. -
As I say, it should be okay but we just don't know. The changes made were because of general improvement and a complete redesign of the vehicle, not to make it compatible with E5 or E10 fuel. But certainly the safest option is to use super unleaded whilst it is readily available.

£ 30k for a 15 plate non-carbon is about correct - there just aren't many for sale at the moment.
