  1. Sensors are before/after the primary cat not secondary. You could therefore replace with a straight pipe and not throw a CEL and it would also pass an emissions test if the engine is hot (not that hybrids are emissions tested on the MOT anyway. However you make be breaking the law: You could fail an MOT if the person knows what they are looking for as they check that a catalyst isn’t missing where one was fitted as standard.
  2. that's why you couldn't open the rear door then
  3. No, the OBD has a 7.5 Amp fuse protecting it. You would need to tap into the power going to the driver's door or seat, those have a 30 Amp feed.
  4. Do you have your child lock enabled? I would expect one pull of the internal rear handle to pop up the lock and a second pull to release the door - unless you have deadlocked the vehicle.
  5. It's something that the manufacturers state; newer vehicles use less precious metals than older ones. That combined with a lot more Prius and CT200h around where they know exactly where to jack them up and cut etc.
  6. It's a standard 20k major service (oil, oil filter, brake fluid, rear diff oil) + engine and hybrid inverter coolant (the first change from the factory fill). Coolant is then changed every 50 miles so your 150k miles service will be larger than a normal intermediate service. The next major service (120k miles) will also be larger than normal as it would need plugs changing (every 60k miles) and air filter (every 40k miles).
  7. I don't recall anyone reporting it here. Cannot say it has never happened but definitely rare.
  8. Dealerships can vary in their helpfulness with imports. You may have more luck at a Toyota dealer than a Lexus one. You certainly won't be able to get an official HCC as the system won't recognise the reg/VIN they enter at the start when performing the test, but the individual tests can all be carried out just using Techstream anyway so they should be able to diagnose the problem.
  9. Does your vehicle have a standard OBD-II port? We need to know the error code(s) to provide some advise, otherwise it is just speculation.
  10. All 400h, of all ages, have a cam belt (as do the RX300/RX330). Only the series III 450h onwards has a chain driven engine. It should be changed every 100k/10 years. If it breaks it will almost certainly damage valves/pistons as the engine is an interference design.
  11. They shouldn't look like that but others have reported the same problem on aged IS250s. Apart from the 4th plug down there doesn't appear to be oil on the outside of the plug so it isn't the cam cover leaking oil in the plug wells, it is oil within the engine getting on the plugs - worn valve guide seals I'd guess. Do the engine use much oil between services?
  12. Good tip but you still need to be careful as opening up the bleed screw just a little more than necessary can lead to air being drawn in via the thread of the screw.
  13. I doubt it has enough mass to reduce vibration through inertia so I suspect it is moving the resonant frequency of the exhaust system, as John has stated, either out of audible range or out of the frequency range that the engine produces with its normal rev range.
  14. You normally need a bit of leverage to push it in all the way. A piece of wood in the middle of the piston levering against the disc for example (being careful not to damage the rubber seal) or use a G Cramp to force it in just a few more mm to get enough clearance for the new pads. Plus as above, just loosen the reservoir cap so air can be released and make sure the fluid doesn't overflow if it has been topped up when the pads were wearing down.
  15. The top one looks like 90467-10206 https://lexus.7zap.com/en/eu/lexus+rx/521230/gyl15r-awxgkw/3/5503/552240d/ and possibly 90467-07217 for the lower one: https://lexus-japan.epc-data.com/rx450h/gyl15w/81628/body/5304/?partno=9046707217
  16. If the traction battery discharges then it cannot recharge, only then is it bad. I guess you arrived at the car wash with a particularly low state of charge. If you continue to use that car wash then limit the battery drain by switching off headlights, A/C and Stereo whilst going through it.
  17. It needs to be better but I fear it will essentially be the same vehicle.
  18. Measuring what you drain and add the same back works on the principle that the fluid level is correct before you start - that is a reasonable assumption if it still has the factory fluid in it and there are no signs of a leak.
  19. There are no gears, but you should run the engine for a minute and recheck the level.
  20. Yes sounds like a possible cause. Too much fuel due to a leaking injector, but not enough to cause a problem during normal running. Try some injector cleaner, otherwise worth taking them out and getting them tested - if you do then replace the o-rings otherwise you will get an external fuel leak.
  21. It's a damper to reduce vibrations.
  22. They are distinctive so you 'see' everyone you pass. They only sell around 4,000 each year in the UK so not exactly popular in general motoring terms but together with the NX they are the best selling Lexus models currently available.
  23. Only on a public road. Lexus should allow the owner to make the decision, not make it on our behalf.
