  1. One of the benefits of a BEV is a greatly simplified drivetrain (weight saving and reliability benefits) because electric motors have a wide operating window that all but removes the need for a gearbox. The drawback is a low top speed for many BEVs, including this new Lexus. Porsche do use a 2 speed transmission on their Taycan but others such as Tesla just use two motors on their AWD models with differing characteristics.
  2. What's more disappointing and frustrating is these relay attacks have been known about for many years, yet Toyota still hasn't done anything about it - they are still launching new models today with it. The reality is they don't care unless it starts to affect sales - until then they want to maximise the return on investment they/Denso has made on the current, flawed, system. A solution already exists - use ultra-wideband technology which has time-of-flight calculations built into the protocol to stop relays from being possible.
  3. The Supra uses a BMW engine/ECU/key. Toyota keys still don't have motion sensing 😞
  4. If the French brands put all individual sensors on the can-bus then that might start to explain why they are so unreliable. Toyota individually wire sensors back to the ECUs - certainly on the CT. If you just disconnect the sensor then you are unlikely to be able to set the alarm. The sensor is built into the latch assembly. You should check the wiring that comes from it is undamaged and is correctly pushed into the wiring connector located a short distance below the latch. You could try cleaning it all up (you may have to unbolt it from the vehicle) and possibly the microswitch can be individually replaced, but the only the whole assembly is available from Lexus: https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-ct-phase-1-bonnet-latch/ You probably could adapt the wiring to fool the system into thinking the bonnet is correctly closed but you would lose some security protection if you did - and you have to take into account the loop through circuit that goes in parallel with the switch wiring which protects the vehicle in case some just tried to disconnect the electric connector in an attempt to defeat the alarm.
  5. I think the extra noise is just a combination of higher engine rpm, cold start mixture and a cold exhaust. I had an MR2 Turbo many years ago that was particularly throaty on cold startup.
  6. No, it's only the LC500 that has the dual-stage exhaust. The GS F (and RC F) don't have this.
  7. Yes, it solves the problem of owners not using the parking brake and it seizes up, only to create another issue if you have a flat battery. There is a manual release (and a tool in the boot) but it is probably easily to connect an external 12v source to the vehicle (just to turn on the ignition) and use the electronic release button.
  8. All RS200 Altezza have a SXE10 code, SX10 is a typo.
  9. The RC F has an IS rear end, electronics and interior which has foot operated brake. It would need a major series upgrade to change that. The GS F is based on the series IV GS which has always had an electronic parking brake.
  10. The thread is more related to what you like/dislike about the things that you have with your vehicle, not the things you haven't specified (but yes, you would expect auto folding mirrors on lower specifications than just the top one).
  11. Didn't go with the whole car then?
  12. This isn't about Tesla's reason for their yoke. Lexus are positioning it as an improvement in steering feel, precision, speed and effort for the driver, and giving clearer visibility of the road - none of those things matter if the aim is to remove the driver from the equation.
  13. What's enough for one person may not be enough for another, however I don't want to get into that. All I was trying to point out was don't expect to get near a manufacture's range claim in the winter when it's raining and you are driving into a headwind on the motorway at 80 mph.
  14. I'm sure it's great for a high performance track car, just seems unnecessary for an SUV. On a long drive I like to vary how I hold the wheel, this limits options.
  15. Dealers don't really get early visibility into a lot of the detail unfortunately. The screen upgrade is really a given, Lexus has been implementing this on their other vehicles at launch/facelift.
  16. or just pulled due to embarrassment.
  17. I'm not sure 90% after 10 years is realistic but the way manufacturers get around this is to have batteries with a higher capacity than they state and then eat into this buffer as the battery ages. To the owner I guess it doesn't really matter as they only see a 10% drop. Most of that degradation is actually just age, what is know as calendar ageing, rather than usage so there is little the owner can do other that avoid having the average state of charge too high which accelerates this. The WLTP thing is interesting. The test is the test, there is shouldn't be anything the manufactures can do about it - the whole point is that it provides a way to compare vehicles, rather than to give an accurate real world range. So I don't really understand Porsche essentially understating their WLTP range so owners get real world figures close to their test figure - it just makes it more difficult to compare them against the competition. In the winter Porsche seem to suffer a 20% range drop, who are one of the best, and the average seems to be around 30%, with Ford and others even worse than that. But it is speed that is the killer - on a motorway if you stick to 70 mph then you will get good range, but if you are one of the thousands of people that drive at 85 mph then you won't get anywhere close to a manufacture's range figure.
  18. Which it won't be in real life. Winter rain on the motorway and you won't see 150 miles.
  19. Unfortunately that is a good price. Similar price at sparkplugs.co.uk, ehybrid on ebay, autodoc.co.uk etc. You can get them for around £10 each on American sites such as Rockauto.com but unless you are ordering other things at the same time then the shipping outweighs any product saving. If you find some cheaper there is a good chance they will be fake. https://www.denso-technic.com/images/news/en/2020/spark-plug-counterfeits-poster.pdf
  20. This is the adjustment procedure for HID lights. If it cannot be adjusted correctly then check the vehicle for accident damaged repair in case the light unit isn't sitting correctly in the vehicle. Also check the suspension self-levelling sensors in case they are disconnected/damaged.
  21. a mat might stop the phone moving but will probably create too large a gap, making the charger useless or just overheat your phone. Personally I've given up trying to use wireless chargers, especially in cars. It was rubbish in my wife's Prius and it is now rubbish in her UX. I'm sure it works well with the specific phone they tested it on but not on any I've tried.
  22. I assume you are missing the SD card rather than it not working? This is the official place to get map updates, although it will probably ask you for the number printed on your existing card which isn't going to be much use. https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu Otherwise you Lexus dealer, but these maps are expensive. Unofficial updates - people have used this site before (you will need to purchase a blank SD card and copy over the downloaded data and I'm not really sure on its legality): https://toyotamaps.online/map-updates
  23. There should be a law against it. 🤣
  24. The Lexus cover has always been great value, I guess an additional benefit of a reliable manufacturer is the breakdown services give them good discounts to pass on to owners. However never purchase direct AA/RAC cover without using some form of discount code/cashback provider such as Quidco - they always have high offers on, and for renewals they tend to give a no claims discounts.
  25. As above it isn't an issue unless you leave one in the car. If you are concerned or want to leave one in the car (not really advisable) then disable the spare one:
