  1. Hi everyone,

    Just changed my rear pads today with Mintex ones. First 30 mins they were fine. Then I noticed a clunking noise on uneven road surfaces. Its more noticeable at low speeds (under 40mph) If I go over a drain or a bump in the road there is a clunk coming from the back. High speed is fine. Everything appears to be tight. I used the original backing plate from the old pads and put grease on to reduce brake noise. When I pump the peddle stationary there is no sound. Its only when moving. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  2. Sorry for the late reply. I haven't logged on here in a while. I would say MPG is unchanged. I get around 42 doing 80MPH on the motorway (cruise control on the flat)but my journey to work is very stop start country lanes and it sometimes gets down to 30MPG if I'm not careful. Performance is noticeable but not huge as described in my original post. I have had no issues at all since fitting the box. No lights or engine problems. The engine does sound a little louder (when accelerating hard)but you get used to it and I only notice when I have to remove the box when the car is getting serviced at Lexus and it sound quieter. It does work but there are cheaper boxes. However, most boxes only connect to the fuel rail pressure sensor. Mine connects to boost as well. Another box I considered was one from DTUK. They do one which connects to the rail pressure AND crankshaft sensor (to control timing). This box is not advertised on the website but if you call and ask they will explain. Hope this helps.

  3. Does anyone know a good supplier of replacement rear shocks for is220d at a reasonable price as lexus want £350 to supply and fit. ?

    New shocks on a 57 plate? I would argue that is a warranty job. Shocks should not go on a car that age. How many miles you done?

    I know at qwik fit if you go along with the part first thing (be waiting for them to open) and offer them cash the guys will fit most things as a backhander for a fraction of the usual cost. I did it a few years ago for a VW GOLF. They fitted a full lowering kit and set of alloys for £80 - £20 a corner. If they are busy they'll arrange another time with you - usually first thing or at the very end of the day.

  4. This happened to me. Lexus said it was a known problem and could could be caused by someone on a mobile phone or a plasma TV. They said they now have a modified entry system which is not affected as much. They replaced the locking system under warranty. Mine is a 57 plate. I'm not sure when the new system came out but if your car is under warranty I would lie and say it has happened more than once and get it replaced with the newer version as the above post proves it can happen any time.

  5. hi, i've exactly the same noise from mycar...expecially in second and first gear (when changin down and when the engine is warm).

    My lexus dealer said it's a normal noise from the trasmission because there is too much torque (400nm) to tolerate...

    i don't know if it's true or not...let me know if your dealer repairs your car or not!

    My dealer took the gearbox out and fixed it. It was the gear syncro. 1st and 2nd use the same syncro. Mine was done under warranty. I don't believe the torque story - your foot is off the pedal when changing gear so there is very little torque going through the gearbox. It's a big job. Mine was in for 3 days. I think the have to drop the engine out to get to and remove the gearbox. They inspected every gear and replaced 5th aswell which didn't make any noise. It still makes a slight noise but is better than before. They gave me a 10 plate model withy 4K on the clock and even that did it slightly. By slight I mean a quiet whine. If yours is very loud try a different dealer especially if its under warranty. If out of warranty I personally would leave if the car drives fine as 3 full days labour at Lexus rates is gonna hurt. You can get it sorted later on if it developes into something more serious. Its hard to enjoy your old car after driving the 10 plate car as the gearbox has been reworked - much smoother and not clunky like my 57 plate.

    I'm a new owner as of yesterday evening. Bought a is250 executive privately, 2006 with 60k miles.

    I'm still trying to work out all the gadgets but my immediate issues are as follows:

    1. I can't get the headlights to work. Only the parks, fulls and fogs work,no matter which position the stalk is in i can't get the dims to work.

    2. I can't hear any beeping from the parking sensors,the green "p" symbol is on the dash but no beeping.

    3. srs airbag light is on but I assume I'll have to visit a dealer for this!?

    any help would be appreciated.

    1. Could simply be blown bulbs or a fuse - check fuse first.

    2. No idea

    3. Definately a dealer visit - try and disconnect the Battery for 30 mins to reset ECU. If light still comes on you have a problem.

    However as all of these things are electrical it could be an electrical fault somewhere which is causing all 3 problems.

    Didn't you notice these things when you bought it. If bought on eBay or somewhere like that the seller should have told you about these faults. I would go back to the seller and ask them to fix the problems (assuming they did not mention them) However if you saw the car before you handed over the money then its your own fault I'm afraid.

    1. Does it make the car anyway more smokier ( as in like the vw get that way after putting a box in?)

    2. Does it shorting the life span of any components (like the turbo or engine)

    3. Can they be shipped to Ireland?

    4. Do ya think it is worth the money for it?

    To answer your questions:

    1. No - my car is fitted with a DPF (diesel particulate filter) which catches any soot. My car does not smoke at all. It never smoked before te tuning box either. I am pretty sure all IS220's have a DPF fitted.

    2. Before buying I spoke to the guy a few times. Most tuning boxes connect to the common rail and increase fuel pressure. This one works by increasing the time the injectors are open for so the pressure is not increased (safer) and more fuel is injected to burn. In addition there is a second connector which connects to the boost pressure sensor. The box increases the boost pressure SLIGHTLY to help with the extra fuel being injected. I was told everything was in line with what the engine could handle. Thing is I could have been told complete BULL so rather than read to much into the guy selling it I went over to the Toyota forums where these boxes have been tried and tested with rave reviews. IS220 engine is the same D4D engine used in some Toyotas.

    3. No idea - I'm sure they will (might charge you a small amount) Give them a call and ask.

    4. Yes. You can definately feelthe power and torque. I took mine off last week as the car was getting some warranty work done. Car felt sluggish. This box is no miracle worker. Don't expect HUGE gains BUT you can definately feel the difference. Shame its £375. Would have been nice if it was £299. If you get one though give it a couple of days . Mine felt alot stronger after I hit 160 miles. More noticable fron 1800-3500 rpm but it still pulls harder to the red line aswell.

  8. Hi everyone, I posted a few weeks ago asking for any good tuning boxes as a found I could not remap the IS220d. A researched many websites and finally took the plunge with a box from Lindop Toyota after reading several good reviews on a Toyota forum. My car: IS220d 35000 miles 57 plate. Here is my experience:

    Ordered 5:20 Wednesday night, was told box would be sent out the next day. It arrived lunch time on Friday. No complaints there. The box itself is labelled "Silverstone Autosport" The claimed figures are 212BHP and 470NM. The box looks and feels high quality. Instructions were A4 printed paper with colour photographs. Installation took 15mins. Would have been faster but the boost pressure sensor location was not as in the photograph so I had to search for it. Apart from this installation was fast.

    Test drive: Noticeable extra power and torque. The boost comes in from 1600 (not massively) but the flat spot below 2000rpm is improved (enough for me to notice) The engine revs more freely to the red line but the box seems to improve power the most between 1800-3500 rpm. After this the box has little effect. I'll be honest and say initially I was expecting more "shove in the back" when I floored it but after about 20 mins hard driving the car seemed to "improve". Driving to work this morning I could definately feel the difference (more torque than power). The car does accelerate faster. In higher gears you can feel the extra pull. Although not a rocket it takes away the slightly sluggish feel of the car which seems to plague the IS220d. My mate brought his remapped mondeo ST tdci to "play". (rolling roaded 199BHP and 470NM with D-cat). Up a slight incline he started to catch me as soon as I changed up into 3rd. Maybe its the tall gearing of the Lexus? The Lexus is heavier so my guess is that the box is putting out somewhere close to 200BHP and I can feel the torque so would say the claimed figure to be fairly near the mark.

    The box comes with a 2 year warranty and cost £375 delivered. I will post some MPG figures when I've tested it properly.

    Hope this is usefull as many of you (like me) probably don't know what to go for as everyone claims theres is the best. Not saying my box is the best but it does work.

  9. Hi everyone, had my IS220d 3 weeks now. Its back to Lexus today for broken lock on back door (door wont open from inside), rattling center console and the transmission is making a stange noise when changing down. Any ideas?

    I mainly notice it when selecting 1st when the car is still moving slowly like when approaching a junction. The same sound can be heard if I dip the clutch and let the car coast in 1st. Sound stops when car comes to a standstill or when I let the clutch out so the gear engages.

    They also told me another recall had just been announced so they are doing that also - ECU upgrade for particulate filter.

    Dimsport Rapid Box? I have looked on Lindtop Totota (following the link) and they list a T180 Lexus IS220d box. They make no reference to a "rapid box". Am I looking in the right place?

    I have seen on the Toyota forums that these boxes are supposed to deliver 212BHP and an extra 60NM. A graph was posted on the forum. Does the box give a noticable "shove in the back " when you accelerate hard. Is the power through the rev range or more bottom end? A brief review of your experience of the box would be appreciated as I can't decide which box to go with. The Lindtop box is more expensive than some but if it really delivers its claimed figures I would buy one. Thanks Chris

  11. I picked up my Is220d last week (57 plate) I asked if it was belt or chain. Dealer told me it was belt and needed changing at 80000 miles. Maybe need to check this out as we are being told different things.

    To save time cleaning the EGR every few K can I block it off completely? I have a 57 plate IS220d. Will the ECU throw up a fault? If anyone else has done this did the engine run smoother afterwards?

    Do you have one of these boxes from Lindtop Toyota fitted to your car? Is so could you tell me how much of a difference it makes to the car. Where is the power from in the rev range. Does it give smooth power delivery? Does it give a lot more torque? Does it make the car smoke under hard acceleration?

  14. Hi everyone. I bought a Lexus IS220d yesterday. I pick it up next week. I was looking to remap it in the near future but after 4 hours of trawling the Internet it appears that it can't be done (at least I can't find a site that lists the car) I have remapped other cars with great success and am reluctant to use these tuning boxes as I've heard to many bad things about them possibly damaging the car in the long term as they are not like a proper remap - they just make the engine over fuel.

    Has anyone found anywhere that can remap the Lexus IS220d? If so can you post a link and can you post BHP and Torque figures after the remap. If the car can't br remapped does anyone have personal experience of using a tuning box? Can you post a link and could you give a bries descripyion of the power to the car - torque, smoothness, power through the rev range etc. I will have to do some research but could be tempted by a box if enough people can confirm they are using them without any problems. 2 that I have come across are Spider and a box from Lindtop Toyota http://www.lindoptoyota.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=67
